Chapter 104 Almsgiving

"Hunger makes people do anything. If there are any more people blocking the road, just drive right past them and ignore them. We'll go to the back first."

"Okay, I understand. You guys can rest now."

Xu Lin went to the driver's seat of the car behind to operate the steering wheel, and put the things in the back seat into the space so that Zhou Pin could lie down and rest.

It was probably too late, and there weren't many people on this road to begin with, so we didn't encounter any robberies along the way.

At three in the morning, Zhou Pin got up, and the four of them returned to their respective cars. Zhou Pin drove, while Xu Lin rested in the passenger seat. They ate some compressed biscuits in the car along the way to stave off hunger.

Around seven o'clock, I parked the car next to a half-collapsed house in the suburbs. The sun was already very strong, and it wouldn't be good for the car to continue driving.

The four of them got out of the car and stretched. Xu Lin took out her small pot and started cooking porridge, while Wang Jing took out pickled vegetables and dried fish and placed them on the folding table.

This is why Xu Lin was willing to help Wang Jing and the others. They wouldn't take advantage of Xu Lin, and they wouldn't hesitate to help her or take her efforts for granted.

Xu Lin offered to take them to Nanshi, and Zheng Ming offered to pay for the gasoline. Xu Lin cooked porridge, and Wang Jing provided the side dishes. Relationships aren't about arguing over what you get, but about feeling comfortable together.

After everyone took turns washing up, the porridge was ready. They took out their folding stools and started eating. They had only taken a few bites when an old woman came by with a little girl. The little girl looked very thin, but her eyes seemed particularly big.

"Young man, have pity on us! My granddaughter hasn't eaten for three days." He said, glancing at the porridge in the pot.

"Brother and sister, I'm so hungry!" the little girl looked at them pleadingly.

Before Xu Lin could speak, Wang Jing pulled Xu Lin aside and said, "Lin, give them some. The little girl is so pitiful."

Zheng Ming, standing beside Wang Jing, also looked on with agreement.

Not bad, at least she knew to ask for their opinions beforehand. Xu Lin had already noticed that Wang Jing was reluctant to share with them, so she told them before setting off not to be so generous and to ask Xu Lin before taking any action. At least she did one thing right.

"My opinion is not to give it to you, but I won't object if you really want to, but you will have to bear all the consequences yourself."

“They are just elderly people and children, what consequences could there be? I can forgive those men before, but I really can’t bear to treat the elderly and children like this.”

Since Wang Jing had already said that, Xu Lin had no reason to stop her; once bitten, twice shy.

Wang Jing took the old lady's bowl, filled it with porridge, and added some pickled vegetables and two dried fish for them. The old lady and her granddaughter thanked her profusely and went home.

After they left, Xu Lin pulled Zhou Pin aside and said, "Hurry up and eat!"

"Is it really necessary? There's enough left for the four of us. Why are you eating so fast?" Zheng Ming ate slowly and deliberately.

Xu Lin and Zhou Pin quickly finished eating and returned to their car. Two minutes later, a large group of people, men, women, and children, surged from the direction the old lady and her granddaughter had left.

"Look, there really is porridge! They also have a vehicle, and there should be food on the vehicle. I can smell it."

"Young man, please give us some food. We haven't eaten for days!"

"That's all we have to eat."

"Why do you give to Old Lady Zhang but not to us? We are even more pitiful than her. She has a son, and my son froze to death!"

"I just shared some of what we had with them, there's really no more left," Wang Jing said, feeling aggrieved.
