Chapter 107 Staying Overnight

Later, when Zheng Ming's parents went out to find supplies, they asked Wang Jing's parents to go with them, but Wang Jing's uncle refused to let them go.

Two days later, Zheng Ming's parents returned, intending to bring some supplies to Wang Jing's parents, only to find that they had frozen to death. They then worked with the neighbors to collect their bodies.

When they asked Uncle Wang Jing for things that belonged to Wang Jing's family, they were driven away by the excuse that Zheng Ming's parents were outsiders. They only brought back the ashes of Wang Jing's grandparents, perhaps because Uncle Wang Jing felt that keeping them in his possession would be a burden.

Then their daughter was chosen by a powerful and influential person, who took the whole family to the Beijing base.

Wang Jing's tears never stopped, especially when she heard that her uncle had driven her parents out of the house without giving them any supplies, leaving them to freeze to death. She wept uncontrollably.

"Jingjing, don't cry. You have to be strong now that things have come to this. You still have us. Come on, wash your face. We'll eat and go to the Beijing base tomorrow to get revenge on them!"

Zheng Ming's mother brought over the noodle soup and called everyone to eat.

"Are you also going to the Beijing base?" Wang Jing asked.

“Your uncle found a van in the company parking lot. It was just repaired these past two days. We were originally planning to leave tomorrow to go to the port city to find you first, and then go to Beijing together. Now that you’re here, we’ll go directly to the Beijing base.”

“Then we can set off together with Xu Lin and the others,” Zheng Ming said.

Zheng Ming now wants to team up with Xu Lin and Zhou Pin. They are intelligent and farsighted, and most importantly, they have weapons and are extremely powerful. Following them will definitely not be a bad deal.

The group sat down to eat, each receiving a bowl of noodle soup with bean sprouts grown by Zheng Ming's mother. On the table were also pickled vegetables and salted fish brought back by Wang Jing, and canned goods brought by Xu Lin, making it quite a feast.

The group chatted and ate as they finalized their itinerary. Zheng Ming and his group had gasoline, so they didn't need to worry about fuel. Although the car was broken, they could disassemble the usable parts, put all the luggage in Zheng Ming's father's van, and then they could set off.

"Let's get some rest today and set off tomorrow evening," said Zheng Ming's father.

After finishing their meal, Xu Lin and Zhou Pin went back to their room to rest, leaving Zheng Ming's family some time to spend together.

Since it wasn't convenient to go into the space at Zheng Ming's house, Xu Lin and Zhou Pin lay on the bed chatting.

"How long does it take to get to Beijing from here?" Xu Lin asked.

"If everything goes smoothly, it should take about two days to arrive."

"That's pretty fast. Dr. Dai and the others should have arrived by now."

"Yes, they should have arrived by now, barring any unforeseen circumstances."

“Let’s rent a small house when we get to the base. There’s still an earthquake coming, so there’s no need to buy a house.”

"Hmm, let's rent the top floor."

"We'll have to find jobs then; we can't just sit around and do nothing."

“Those without connections at the base have to do manual labor. I'll find a job; you can stay home.”

"Then wouldn't I be being kept by a sugar daddy?"

"This is called the man being in charge of external affairs and the woman being in charge of internal affairs."

"It's been a year since the apocalypse. Time flies. We've experienced torrential rain, extreme cold, and extreme heat. What's next?"

"There are also insect plagues, plagues, earthquakes, tsunamis, and so on. These are just the major ones that we can remember. What we fear most are the unforeseen disasters."

"Is there an insect infestation? I don't remember that."

"Major natural disasters may be the same in different places, but minor disasters and difficulties are different. Otherwise, why would everyone go to the base?"

"That makes sense. I need to be careful. I can't be arrogant just because I've time-traveled. I don't want to make a fool of myself."
