This time it was an ordinary lock. Zhou Pin didn't use the lock-picking tool, but instead had Xu Lin take out a wire. In just a few seconds, the lock opened.
Open the iron gate, and there's another door below. Zhou Pin opens it again and slowly puts the little robot inside.
This little robot was made by Zhou Pin when he was at the base. It can take pictures and record audio. It is only the size of a finger and is shaped like a small car. If you don't pay attention, you might mistake it for a child's toy.
After the robot went down, the two found a secluded spot to watch the video.
"This isn't a cave, it's an underground city!"
The first image the robot transmitted was of a long corridor with light at the end, so bright it was practically daytime.
Zhou Pin manipulated his keyboard, and the screen zoomed in dozens of times, revealing a very high-tech door.
“It’s probably some kind of laboratory,” Zhou Pin said with a serious expression.
"Is this some kind of human laboratory?" After saying that, he felt a chill run down his spine and rubbed his arm with his hand.
"Only I can open this lock. You wait here."
"Here, take care of yourself." Xu Lin handed over a gun and a backpack.
Zhou Pin slowly walked over, and more than ten minutes later, the walkie-talkie in Xu Lin's hand rang.
“Come over here, it’s an abandoned laboratory,” Zhou Pin said.
Xu Lin walked over and entered the gate. The walls were made of special materials that could emit light, which explained why it looked as bright as day from the outside.
The corridor was lined with various laboratories. Zhou Pin was in one of them when Xu Lin walked over.
"This used to be a human laboratory; you can see all the experimental data here."
Xu Lin took the notebook Zhou Pin handed her. It was filled with detailed records of the development process of an embryo. Next to it was another embryo, but it had failed halfway through.
"This looks like a laboratory's archive. If it were an abandoned laboratory, they should have taken all this data with them. Why didn't they take anything?"
"They were probably evacuated temporarily due to an emergency. They thought they could come back, but then it was the apocalypse." Zhou Pin was absolutely right.
"Then what about the test subjects?" Xu Lin was more curious about this.
"The end of the corridor might be where the test subjects are stored. Let's go take a look in a bit."
Zhou Pin collected the experimental data from each room and stored them separately in his space. He and Zhou Pin continued walking deeper into the corridor, passing through many heavy doors, until they reached the laboratory.
The laboratory has many rooms, each containing specimens ranging from fertilized eggs to individual organisms, which horrified Xu Lin.
They were packaged in transparent jars, soaking in a medicinal solution, with a notebook underneath recording various data about the test subjects. The last room contained mature individuals, ranging from newborns to the elderly, representing different stages of life.
"This is terrifying! This place must be destroyed!"
“We will destroy the experimental subjects, but we will keep the laboratory so that it can provide a refuge for survivors in the event of a future disaster,” Zhou Pin said, looking at the experimental subjects.
"Zhou Pin, look! Did these empty ones run away?"
Zhou Pin stared at the empty petri dish, then at the notebook containing the experimental data that had clearly been violently destroyed, and fell into deep thought.
"They may have been taken away by someone, or they may have escaped on their own. In any case, we must find them."
"I wonder what the purpose of this laboratory is. The experimental data we just collected should provide some clues." Xu Lin immediately began to think.
