"All you ever think about is eating!" Wang Jing slapped Zheng Ming.
"If you're not going to eat it, give it to me!" Zheng Ming started looking for a beating again.
This time it wasn't Wang Jing hitting him, but his own mother, and with his own father watching, Zheng Ming didn't dare to talk back.
"Nothing much to say, let's eat first, then we'll talk. Let's dig in!"
Xu Lin noticed that everyone was hungry after a long day at work, so she told them to start eating right away.
Everyone enjoyed the meal. Although they all had income at the base, they were all tightening their belts to prepare for future natural disasters, so they couldn't afford to eat so freely.
After dinner, everyone sat around in the living room chatting, and Zhou Pin went to wash the dishes.
"Zhou Pin is so good to you!" Wang Jing said enviously.
"It's as if Zheng Ming has treated you badly."
"I'm already lucky he's not angry with me! Let's not talk about him anymore. How have you guys been these past few days?"
"Of course, life outside is not as good as at the base; there are many robberies..." Xu Lin recounted their experiences along the way.
"That was so exhilarating! I wish I had your skills too!" Zheng Ming exclaimed, his blood boiling with excitement.
"Where did you all go?" Old Zheng asked.
We traveled north to the Daxing Mountains, where Inner Mongolia and Northeast China meet. In Anshan, we found a cave with stored supplies, and we collected everything useful… The entire mountain was tunneled through; we walked through the cave to the other side, digging up many medicinal herbs and mycelium. You can bring back some mycelium to grow your own mushrooms, as well as pine nuts, walnuts, and chestnuts.”
"There are so many supplies outside, it makes me want to go out and see them," Aunt Ning said longingly.
"It's probably not going to work now. When we left, we found that people had already started looking for supplies. It won't be long before the whole mountain is ransacked," Xu Lin said seriously.
Xu Lin was afraid that they might act impulsively and go on an adventure, which was no joke. She and Zhou Pin had guns and a spatial ability, which allowed them to escape danger, but others might not be so lucky.
"I see you all have communicators now. Are communicators being promoted and popularized in the base?" Xu Lin changed the subject.
"No, ours are all issued by the base so that we can contact them anytime. Ordinary people would need connections and have to pay a lot of money to buy them," Dr. Dai said.
"That's good too, it will become more and more common in the future."
"Xu Lin, can I trade you some mycelium for some tofu?" Dr. Dai asked.
"Sure, it's been a long time since I've had tofu. But where did you get your tofu?"
"Dr. Dai made them himself, and he even makes them every now and then to sell at the market. Isn't that amazing?" Wang Jing answered quickly.
"Amazing!" Xu Lin truly admired Dr. Dai. Despite her busy work at the hospital and taking care of Xiang Qing, she still had time to make tofu.
“It wasn’t just me who did it; Xiao Qing also helped me a lot,” Dr. Dai said, patting Xiang Qing’s head.
"I enjoy cooking," Xiang Qing said with a smile.
“You’re all great. I was planning to have you take some mycelium back with you, and I’ve packed it all up for you.”
"Then we won't stand on ceremony!" Aunt Ning said. "Xiao Xu, I'd like to exchange some pine nuts for gasoline."
"Sure, we got a lot of pine nuts from Northeast China."
"I'll have Zheng Ming bring the gasoline when I get back."
The group chatted for a while, and Xu Lin learned a lot about the base from them. For example, a couple of days ago, the big, dumb guy who had been embezzling from the base was caught and expelled.
