Chapter 17 Farmers Market

Xu Lin took out a kayak from the stairwell between the first and second floors and paddled it out of the water. The community was deserted; those who needed to be evacuated had already left, and the remaining residents who weren't flooded had no means of transportation and couldn't leave their homes.

One of the main reasons I bought a house in Jinxiu Community was that it was close to farmers' markets, supermarkets, and hospitals, and it was also very close to my workplace. Although it was a bit more expensive than other places, the advantages outweighed the disadvantages, so I gritted my teeth and bought it.

Xu Lin was going to the farmers' market, about 500 meters from her neighborhood, today. It took her half an hour to reach her destination. Because the government had repeatedly emphasized the typhoon's approach, the farmers' market was already deserted.

Xu Lin used to cook for herself and often came to this farmers' market to buy vegetables. It had a wide variety, and the vegetables were cheap and fresh.

The first floor sells various beef, mutton and seafood; the second floor sells fresh vegetables and fruits; the third floor sells various dried goods and seasonings; and the fourth and fifth floors are probably warehouses.

At this point, the first floor was already submerged underwater, and the second floor was also half-submerged.

Xu Lin took out a window breaker and shattered the second-floor window. The vegetables and fruits had already been moved, and even if they hadn't, they were inedible.

So Xu Lin rowed the kayak directly to the staircase connecting the second and third floors, preparing to go straight up to the third floor.

After strolling around the stalls on the third floor, Xu Lin bought everything she liked: dried white fungus, dried black fungus, dried anchovies, oil, salt, soy sauce, vinegar, baking soda, rice, flour, peanuts, and even her favorite sunflower seeds, pistachios, pecans, hazelnuts, and pine nuts. She left nothing behind, and in just half an hour, she had collected all the dried goods and seasonings.

Upon reaching the fourth floor, Xu Lin found all the warehouse's roller shutters tightly shut. She took out a chainsaw and began smashing them one by one. The farmers' market was quite large, and the rain provided good sound insulation, so the sound of the chainsaw inside wouldn't be heard from outside.

It took Xu Lin two hours to open all ten or so roller shutters in one go. She glanced around and realized that this should be the warehouse on the third floor. The types of goods were the same as on the third floor, but the quantities were many times greater. She directly stored them into her spatial storage.

It was already noon. Xu Lin was tired after a busy morning, so she took out a boxed lunch from her spatial storage and started eating.

Today's lunchbox consisted of spinach with minced garlic, stir-fried pork, and braised pork with white rice. Having survived the apocalypse, these were all delicious meals. Xu Lin wolfed them down, then tossed the disposable lunchbox into her spatial storage; she could wash it at home and reuse it.

After finishing our meal and resting for a while, we went up to the fifth floor. The fifth floor has two large cold storage rooms, which contain vegetables, fruits, and various meats that were moved from the first floor. I wonder if they've broken down during the power outage.

Using the same method, we opened the first cold storage door and a blast of cool air hit us. It turned out that the warehouse had a generator to maintain the temperature.

At a glance, on the left are vegetables: Chinese cabbage, bok choy, romaine lettuce, cabbage, broccoli, eggplant, peppers, potatoes, tomatoes, cucumbers, winter melon, pumpkin, loofah... Both familiar and unfamiliar ones are neatly stacked together against the wall.

On the right are various fruits: apples, grapes, pears, watermelons, blueberries, dragon fruit... boxes stacked up, a considerable quantity.

After harvesting the vegetables and fruits, they opened the second cold storage. There was pork, beef, mutton, and donkey meat, as well as various freshwater and saltwater fish, and thousands of processed chickens, ducks, and geese. There were also plenty of sea cucumbers, abalone, and prawns. As a port city by the sea, it had all kinds of seafood.

"I'm rich! I'm rich!" Xu Lin was overjoyed. She had been worried that she wouldn't have enough meat to eat, but now she didn't have to worry anymore. This was enough for her to eat for three lifetimes.

The farmers' market was completely ransacked, not even a chicken feather was spared. It wasn't that Xu Lin was heartless; the market was located in a low-lying area, and with the current rainfall, it would definitely be flooded in two days, at which point everything inside would be destroyed. It was better to store everything in her spatial storage now for Xu Lin's use.
