"I'm going to buy water today, I'll be back later," Zhou Pin said to Xu Lin before going to work.
"I had completely forgotten about it until you mentioned it; we haven't bought water for several days."
The two of them used water from their space to eat and use, and the water they bought from the base was used for farming. In order not to arouse the curiosity of anyone with ulterior motives, Zhou Pin would buy water from the base every few days. He hadn't bought any water since he came back from his last trip and had almost forgotten about it.
Xu Lin exercised at home in the morning and weeded the beans she planted in the yard in the afternoon. She also picked some vegetables to eat in the evening. After harvesting the last batch of vegetables, she planted another crop of leafy greens, which are ready to eat.
Before the vegetables were all picked, Zhou Pin returned.
"Weren't we going to buy water?" Xu Lin asked, glancing at Zhou Pin, whose hands were empty.
“The old lady got her relatives to cause trouble,” Zhou Pin said calmly.
"We didn't contact her, but she still came to our door. What's going on?" Xu Lin had a fiery temper.
“I went to buy water and said I needed ten times more points. When I asked why, he said I had offended someone I shouldn’t have, so I put something in their water.”
"What the hell?"
"We'll find out then. How about mushrooms and bok choy for tonight?"
"Don't keep me in suspense. I'll eat whatever you make. I'm not picky about food."
The two went back to the house together. Zhou Pin took the vegetables to the kitchen, while Xu Lin ran to the rooftop on the second floor to get binoculars to look at the old lady's house.
The old lady was cooking. Xu Lin adjusted her binoculars and saw that the pot contained sweet potatoes and potatoes. No wonder she wanted to eat chives; there was nothing good to eat at home.
Xu Lin had a sudden inspiration and came up with an idea.
As I came downstairs, Shuke and Beta returned as well. What a stroke of luck!
He called Shuke and Beta aside and whispered among themselves.
"Dinner's ready!" Zhou Pin brought the dishes out of the kitchen and saw Xu Lin gesturing to Shuke and Beta. "What are you doing?"
"I have an important task for them." Xu Lin patted the dogs' heads a couple of times before going to the bathroom to wash her hands and eat.
"Didn't you say Shuke was a stupid dog?"
"We didn't need them back then!"
"Now that you can use it, you don't mind being silly anymore?"
"Stop talking, it can understand some of what you're saying." Xu Lin covered Zhou Pin's mouth.
"Woof?" What?
"It's alright, it's alright, go ahead." Xu Lin waved to Shu Ke.
"What did you send them to do?" Zhou Pin asked Xu Lin after the dogs had run off.
"We'll see when the time comes." Xu Lin gave him a taste of his own medicine.
After dinner, Xu Lin took out her yarn and knitted a sweater while watching variety shows in the small reception area on the second floor.
When the glass on the second floor was renovated, it was replaced with a special material. You can see out from inside the house, but from outside, it looks like the curtains are drawn, ensuring absolute privacy.
Zhou Pin took out his notebook and sat down next to him, seemingly doing nothing. The two of them were busy with their own things, which had been the norm for the past few days.
The next morning, Xu Lin and Zhou Pin were practicing when they heard shouting and cursing coming from outside.
"Ah! Help!"
Xu Lin and Zhou Pin exchanged a glance, both thinking that even though they lived in such a remote place, their voices could still get through.
"I'm going to make a phone call," Zhou Pin said to Xu Lin, taking out his communicator.
After finishing the phone call, Xu Lin pulled Zhou Pin to the second-floor rooftop, took out two binoculars, and handed one to Zhou Pin.
In the distance, a bizarre old lady's house was the scene of a human-snake battle, with dozens or even hundreds of snakes swarming around the yard, on the door, and on the windows.
"Tsk tsk tsk, that's really scary," Xu Lin said, shaking her head.
"What did you scatter?" Zhou Pin asked.
