Xu Lin woke up at 3 a.m. the next day. It was still dark outside. There were almost no earthquakes in the surveillance footage, only occasional aftershocks.
The outside was a mess, with a large tree pinned down on top of the shipping container and a large rock that had rolled in from who-knows-where.
Four surveillance cameras were installed on the outside of the container, but only one was still working; the other three were either broken or blocked.
Over the next few days, the two spent most of their time farming and feeding livestock in the space, only resting when sleeping, in order to save time in the space.
The surveillance footage showed occasional aftershocks outside, but none were particularly strong; they appeared to be around magnitude 3 or 4.
On the tenth day, Xu Lin decided to go out and take a look, and Zhou Pin went with her.
The two emerged from the space wearing gas masks and protective suits, appearing in a container. Xu Lin felt dizzy, possibly due to the disruption of the Earth's magnetic field.
After stabilizing herself, Xu Lin pushed open the container door. Outside, she saw flowers, plants, and trees lying haphazardly on the ground, some leaning against another tree. The soil was so soft that Xu Lin dared not step on it.
Take out your camera and take pictures of the scenery in front of you. Then, put all the plants you see into the space. Zhou Pin and I also put away the stones and trees near the container. The area around the container is now bare.
Another aftershock struck. Xu Lin grabbed Zhou Pin's hand and entered the space. The two of them now do everything together to prevent any unexpected situations.
"Luckily, there were no earthquake cracks around, otherwise we would have been trapped inside the cracks and had no one to turn to," Xu Lin said.
“We’re at around magnitude 8, but the epicenter is estimated to be at least magnitude 10.”
"I wonder how the others are doing. I'm just worrying unnecessarily. I should take care of myself first."
“We have to get out of here quickly. The earthquake will cause a tsunami. We are too close to the sea. This mountain is not high either. If a tsunami occurs, we will most likely be flooded.”
The surveillance footage showed that the aftershocks outside had stopped, and the two of them came out of the space and quickly returned to the container.
Xu Lin glanced at her watch; it was 10:18 AM. She took out her notebook and pasted the photos she had just taken. Zhou Pin checked the equipment in the container for damage.
After packing everything up, Xu Lin stored the container in her spatial storage. This time, her goal was to get out from the other side of the mountain.
Under normal circumstances, an earthquake will cause a tsunami. The two people lived by the sea, but the sea did not react. They suspected that a bigger disaster might be brewing and they had to leave the place as soon as possible.
I checked the map beforehand and found that the highest mountain in the vicinity is about 50 kilometers away. In the event of a tsunami, it is always safer to be on the mountain than on land.
Wearing protective suits and masks, the two descended the increasingly rugged mountain path. The village they had visited was no longer there, and they didn't have time to check on the survivors; they were too busy making their way.
As the saying goes, going up a mountain is easy, but going down is hard. The descent after the earthquake was especially difficult; it took the two of them four hours to get down, even after the people who had lived on the mountain had cleared a path for them. They also experienced an aftershock, and spent an hour in their spatial dimension before returning to continue their journey, estimating that everything was alright.
They were supposed to be on the move, but there was hardly any road left. They were in the countryside, and the ground was full of cracks and fallen trees. The two of them could only move forward with the help of a map and a compass. However, the compass was not accurate due to the influence of the Earth's magnetic field, so Xu Lin eventually gave up on it.
