Chapter 274 Returning to Camp

The two planned to return in the evening, so they had a day to collect supplies as they descended the mountain.

They already had plenty of yams, potatoes, and sweet potatoes, so the two didn't waste time digging those. Instead, they spent their time digging for saplings and herbs they had never seen before, and occasionally they would dig up some wild vegetables.

Zhou Pin also found two wild boar piglets in the grass, intending to take them home to raise, but the cost of raising two was too high, so he would exchange one for another if he had the chance.

The two collected supplies as they descended the mountain, and at 3 PM, halfway down, they decided to head straight home. To avoid encountering the teenagers again, they carried everything they had gathered with them instead of putting it in their spatial storage.

The path up the mountain and down the mountain is not the same. After observing that no one was around, but to be on the safe side in case of binoculars, Xu Lin went to the bushes to take the boat out of her space and dragged it to the water's edge with Zhou Pin.

The two carried a basket of wild vegetables, a basket of herbs, and a basket of fruit onto the boat. They also transported the rabbits, pheasants, and piglets they had caught onto the boat. This trip was a great success.

"I'll have to weave a few bamboo baskets when I get back; it's more convenient to carry bamboo baskets when I go out," Xu Lin said.

"Go back and make it up."

As the two rowed back, Xu Lin remarked, "It would be a shame if we didn't run into a robber."

Just as they were about to reach the hill where they lived, a few people rushed down from the neighboring mountain. They didn't have a boat, so they approached in a bamboo raft. Xu Lin picked up a long pole from the gunwale and swung it at them.

Xu Lin was quite agile, attacking left and right at different times. They gradually lost patience and began to charge around recklessly.

In a battle between two sides, if one side loses its composure, the other side's victory is a foregone conclusion.

Zhou Pin seized the opportunity, steered the boat directly in front of them, and together with Xu Lin, used bamboo poles to slap the people on the bamboo raft into the water. Ignoring whether they could swim or not, the two rowed away, taking a detour.

The boat actually had an engine that could run on diesel, but the two still rowed discreetly forward, which attracted the attention of many people.

Back at camp around 6 p.m., the two hid the boat and carried their spoils home in bamboo baskets.

Sun Wei and his family of three had just finished eating and were chatting in the yard, waiting for Xu Lin and Zhou Pin. They quickly opened the door when they saw the two return.

The two exchanged information, and Li Jingjing looked at the piglet in Zhou Pin's arms with an envious expression.

“If you like, you can come and exchange them. We think raising two is quite a burden,” Xu Lin said to Li Jingjing.

"Okay, let's go back and discuss it, and I'll come see you tomorrow."

They politely declined Grandma Wu's invitation and went home with their belongings.

There's no place like home. After returning home, they breathed a long sigh of relief. They didn't cook; they just ate their boxed lunches, washed up, and rested.

Shuke and Beta probably knew the two were coming back today, and were already waiting for their owners at the door. Xu Lin really didn't have the energy to play with them, so she petted the dogs a couple of times to comfort them.

The next morning, after having breakfast, the two went to Sun Wei's house to discuss security issues with them.

During their trip, Xu Lin and Zhou Pin discovered that there were still quite a few survivors nearby. However, since the mountain where they lived was still able to be self-sufficient, they did not set their sights on their location.

Zhou Pin and Sun Wei had previously built a fence and set traps, but they could only deal with ordinary people. Those who could survive in the apocalypse for two years were not ordinary people.

Once their mountain peak can no longer meet their needs, they will inevitably expand outwards. There will always be times when the five of them are outnumbered, so they must make plans in advance.
