Chapter 3 Procurement

The takeout arrived, and Xu Lin made an action plan for herself while eating. The first step was to make money.

I have no idea which bank those people in novels robbed of billions or hundreds of billions of dollars from. I'm an orphan, and I almost vomited blood after saving 300,000 yuan. I'm also tormented by an unscrupulous boss every day.

I borrowed from every available loan service on my phone, applied for installment payments based on the minimum repayment amount, applied for credit cards through various bank apps, and then got a POS machine for cash withdrawals.

After finishing all this and having eaten my fill, I couldn't just sit around waiting. I still had 200,000 yuan left, so I decided to spend it first.

After packing up, Xu Lin rented a small truck from a car rental company. She decided to go to the wholesale market to buy supplies during the day, and then go home at night to organize and search online.

Without further ado, they went straight to the home building materials market and ordered two of the sturdiest security doors from the owner, who said that even bullets couldn't penetrate them.

When filling out the information, the shop owner asked if she had brought the dimensions. Seeing Xu Lin's blank expression, she knew she must have forgotten to take the measurements. The shop owner said, "Your home is Unit 3, Building 3, Phase 1 of Jinxiu Garden, right? Your neighbor across the hall, Unit 801, also ordered a door from me this morning. Your dimensions should be the same. Let's go for installation together tomorrow."

After saying that, the shopkeeper muttered, "Has your neighborhood been a bit unsafe lately? Why do you both want the sturdiest security doors?"

These words made Xu Lin's heart skip a beat. Someone was living across the hall? And they wanted to install a security door? She remembered that in her previous life, no one lived across the hall, which allowed her to successfully install a security door at the stairwell. In this life, someone was living there; she wondered what kind of person they were…

Without time to hesitate, I paid a deposit of 1,000 yuan and asked the shop owner where I could get underfloor heating installed. The owner pointed me in the right direction, and I went straight to the plumbing shop and told him my needs.

The boss looked at Xu Lin like she was an idiot. It was supposed to be central heating, but she insisted on burning her own. Where in the city do you find a heated kang bed? She must be out of her mind.

But it would be a fool not to make money if I could. Luckily, I was from the countryside when I was young, so setting up a kang (heated brick bed) was a piece of cake. I arranged to come and modify it the next day.

Xu Lin ordered two more boilers and three stoves, along with other equipment, from the shop owner and they'll be delivered tomorrow. Once the water pipes freeze in the extreme cold, she can boil water at home for a bath—how wonderful!

Speaking of taking a bath, how can you take a bath without a tub? Forget about the plastic ones at home; they'll freeze to dust in the extreme cold. You need a wooden one.

Next door was a hardware store. Xu Lin went in and bought some tools, haggling with the owner for a few small items before heading to the bathroom fixtures wholesale street. She bought two wooden bathtubs, and while paying, she saw the toilets in the store and suddenly realized that the water pipes were frozen and she couldn't flush. She could build a kang (heated brick bed) at home, but she couldn't build a dry toilet. This was a big problem, and she would have to figure it out when she got home.

I put the bathtub in the van, then drove around the neighborhood for a bit to buy some things I thought I needed. It was almost evening when I drove the van to the food street and headed straight for my usual snail rice noodle shop. I ordered a deluxe set meal and enjoyed a delicious feast.

Seeing the bustling food street, it's heartbreaking to realize that with the apocalypse, all this delicious food has become a luxury.

If only we could pack up and preserve all this delicious food, we could enjoy it even in the apocalypse. That would truly make us the winners in life.

Xu Lin decided to come and patronize this place every day, determined not to let her stomach down, since there was still a lot of suffering to endure in the apocalypse.
