The people at the table started talking about the future, but realized that living in the present was the most important thing in the end times, so they talked about the immediate problem—building a house for Zheng Ming.
Youyou is still young, so Zhengming only needs to build a bedroom, a kitchen, a storage room, and a toilet. They can add more as needed later.
Before the house was built, Zheng Ming and Youyou stayed at Sun Wei's house. Of course, Zheng Ming said he would give some of his supplies to Sun Wei as lodging fees. Zheng Ming had kept his promise to give half of his supplies to Sun Wei and Xu Lin, and he divided them out while Youyou was sleeping in the afternoon. He told everyone at dinner that Xu Lin didn't want them.
She said that Grandma Wu took the most care of Youyou, and she only spent time with the child occasionally, providing some supplies that she didn't need (milk powder, diapers). She also said that she didn't lack supplies herself, and asked Zheng Ming to give the things to Sun Wei.
Sun Wei didn't want to accept the supplies either. His family felt that Youyou's arrival had brought a lot of joy to their home, and the child was sensible and didn't require much care. However, at Zheng Ming's insistence, Sun Wei accepted a small portion of the supplies, refusing any more. Moreover, Sun Wei and Li Jingjing even adopted Youyou as their goddaughter.
Grandma Wu took out the "nothing to worry about" plaque she had worn for a long time and put it on Youyou's head.
"I've had this 'No Worries' pendant and bracelet for decades. Now I'm giving the pendant to Youyou as a gift for changing her address to godmother. This bracelet is for Jingjing. If you two decide to have a child someday, give it to my grandson or granddaughter." Old Mrs. Wu took out a pendant and a bracelet from her pocket.
If it weren't for the apocalypse, Li Jingjing and Sun Wei's child would probably be several years old by now. Old Mrs. Wu could tell that Li Jingjing really liked Youyou and wanted to have a child of her own, but this damned apocalypse!
The group stayed up very late that night. Before parting, they agreed to build a house for Zheng Ming the next day. They said that the two families still had some trees that they had cut down on the mountain, so they could use them for now and Zheng Ming could pay them back later.
The next day, Xu Lin and Zhou Pin woke up at 10 a.m. No one came to find them, probably because everyone had gotten up late. They could only start building the house in the afternoon.
After having brunch, the two strolled over to Sun Wei's place and saw Minister Sun and Sun Wei discussing the location and size of the house with Zheng Ming. Zhou Pin went over to join them. Old Mrs. Wu was in the yard keeping Youyou company. Xu Lin first gave Youyou a box of children's biscuits, and then went to the kitchen to chat with Li Jingjing, who was washing dishes.
Xu Lin gave Li Jingjing about ten packets of seeds. Each packet of seeds could plant half an acre of land. Xu Lin had a room full of seeds in her space. Ever since her enlightenment, she had been thinking about using up the things in her space. She didn't trust others to give them to her, so she could only give them to Li Jingjing and the others.
"Why are there so many seeds? You should keep them for yourselves." When Li Jingjing saw that there were so many seeds, she quickly told Xu Lin to take a few packets back to plant themselves.
“Take it. I have a lot more. I’ve divided it into three portions, so all three of your families will get one,” Xu Lin said.
"Xu Lin, I know you and Zhou Pin have a secret. We won't tell anyone, but you two must be careful. There are always some people with ulterior motives..." Li Jingjing said worriedly.
"I know you're not outsiders, that's why I act this way. The fact that we've been able to stay together all these years is because Zhou Pin and I aren't people that just anyone can accept." Xu Lin stopped there.
After Li Jingjing finished washing the dishes, the two of them came out of the kitchen. By then, the four men had already finalized the general plan for building the house. The next step was to dig the foundation, which they were all familiar with. Xu Lin only needed to help Li Jingjing prepare dinner.
