Chapter 44 Survivors' Home

Did you refuse?

"Um."

When do we go out?

"Let's see how things go when they go out tomorrow, the day after tomorrow."

"Okay, we won't cook tomorrow. We've made quite a lot these past few days. We have hundreds of servings of steamed buns, mantou, rice, noodles, rice balls, and flatbread. That's enough for the two of us to eat for a year."

"Okay, get some rest tomorrow."

"I don't know when the base will be able to receive survivors. Many people must have frozen to death in the past few days. The elderly and children have suffered the most."

"In the previous life, it was an extremely cold month. In this life, it should happen earlier, probably in the next day or two."

How did you know?

“Before the apocalypse, I wrote a ‘prophecy’ for the government. At first, they probably didn’t pay attention to it. After the torrential rain, they began to doubt it. Now, with the extreme cold, it corresponds to what I said. They should be prepared.”

"You're so brave. What if you get caught?" Xu Lin admired Zhou Pin's courage.

"No, they can't find out where I posted it or who I am."

"That's good. If the government is prepared for natural disasters, it can save more people." Although she had experienced the apocalypse, Xu Lin still retained that kindness in her heart.

The next morning, Xu Lin saw the group of five people leaving from the window: the male owner of 701, the man in the couple in 702, Miss Dai and her husband in 601, and the kind-hearted man in 602.

They must have worn all the clothes they could find at home, all bundled up like bears, each carrying a stick to prevent themselves from falling.

With the arrival of extreme cold, the government was unable to take over the market and could only leave the survivors to find supplies on their own.

Xu Lin planned to relax at home by playing single-player games all day. She had been busy working and earning money before, and rarely had time to play games; she wasn't used to having so much free time now.

As soon as she took out her tablet, the radio on her bedside table started crackling. Xu Lin quickly ran over and turned the volume up.

"Attention residents, in response to extreme weather, the government has built survivor shelters for the public. Please go there for refuge as soon as possible. The locations are..."

"Xu Lin, Xu Lin!" Zhou Pin's voice came through the walkie-talkie.

"Yes, I heard the announcement. I'm coming to find you now."

Xu Lin turned off the radio and went to room 801.

“We can only get to the Huajing base on foot now. Normally it only takes three hours by high-speed rail, but with this weather, we can only walk. We don’t know what the situation is like outside. It will probably take one or two months or even longer,” Xu Lin said, sitting by the stove.

"Let's wait until the extreme heat and floodwaters recede before we go. There are too many uncertainties if we set off now."

"Okay, I wonder if the families downstairs know about this. I can tell them." Xu Lin decided that since they all lived in the same building, she could tell everyone.

"We'll talk to them when they get back, and ask about the situation outside as well."

"Um."

Around 2 PM, Xu Lin saw the iconic bright red floral cotton-padded jackets of apartment 602 from the window. An hour later, Xu Lin guessed that they had all warmed up, changed her clothes, and went to apartment 602 to knock on the door. The lady of apartment 602 opened the door.

"Miss Xu, what is it?"

"The government has announced the base, so I came to tell you all about it," Xu Lin said, getting straight to the point.

"Please come in and talk," the landlady of apartment 602 said politely.

"Miss Xu, you've arrived." The kind-hearted woman from apartment 602 sat on the sofa by the fire, wrapped in a blanket and holding a cup of hot water. Next to her sat their adopted son, Xiao Zhi, who looked well and seemed to be in good health.

The coffee table in the living room is gone, and there's a bonfire piled up in the middle, probably because they burned everything they could in the house.

"Did you all have a good day?" Xu Lin asked.
