“You have space, you don’t need to do this.”
"Didn't you say you were out of space? So you only stored those supplies?"
"you guess."
"I don't think so. Even someone like Brother Long knows not to put all your eggs in one basket. You're so shrewd, you probably have more supplies than Brother Long."
"I was planning to give you a surprise, but since you asked, I'll tell you in advance. I also stockpiled supplies in Inner Mongolia Province, and I brought you out this time to pick them up. We happened to run into Brother Long on the way."
"I didn't tell you before not because I didn't trust you, but because I wanted to bring you along to pick it up after I successfully proposed."
"There was a treasure map in the bride price. You probably didn't look at it carefully. That's all my wealth."
After Zhou Pin finished explaining, Xu Lin had nothing to say. If Zhou Pin had told her earlier, given their boyfriend-girlfriend relationship, Xu Lin definitely wouldn't have asked to come and collect it. Although they weren't legally married, they were engaged in front of their friends, and the gifts were given to Xu Lin as betrothal gifts, so there was absolutely no problem with Xu Lin accepting them.
"Let's eat ribs." Zhou Pin's words interrupted Xu Lin's train of thought.
"We've been out for five days already. If we take Brother Long's supplies and yours and rush back, is it too late?"
"We'll make it in time. We'll leave after we finish eating and go find Brother Long's supplies first." Zhou Pin finished his rice in a few bites. "You eat slowly, I'm going to get back to work."
After finishing her meal, Xu Lin took out a plate of watermelon and went outside to eat it while waiting for Zhou Pin.
The crops grown in the space are ready to be harvested. They seem to grow faster and are of much better quality than those outside. Once Zhou Pin returns to the base and goes to work, Xu Lin can stay home and take care of things.
After Zhou Pin finished his work, Xu Lin also finished eating her watermelon and took out another plate for Zhou Pin.
"I'll drive in a bit, you can just enjoy the melon."
After leaving the space, the two emerged from the underground laboratory. Xu Lin drove, while Zhou Pin sat in the passenger seat, eating watermelon and giving directions.
We didn't encounter any robberies along the way, probably because we were traveling through remote areas where robbery wouldn't yield anything. However, some refugees were heading south, possibly to the base.
At 7 p.m., they finally arrived at the foot of the mountain where Brother Long had said the supplies were stored. It was said that the supplies were in a cave on the mountain. It was getting dark, and it was not safe to go up the mountain, so the two of them went straight into their space to rest and wait for dawn before going up the mountain.
Once inside the space, things were much freer. Zhou Pin cooked, and Xu Lin harvested the vegetables she had planted in the space, as they would get too old if she didn't harvest them soon. She saved seeds for each type of vegetable to plant again next time.
"Dinner's ready!" Zhou Pin called out from the villa entrance.
Dinner was quite plentiful, consisting of four dishes and a soup: braised chicken with mushrooms, braised oysters, stir-fried broccoli, braised fish, and seaweed and tofu soup.
Xu Lin ate until she was burping. Even outside, their diet hadn't declined; in fact, it was even more abundant than before the apocalypse.
"Just leave the extra food in the kitchen. If I'm sleeping or it's inconvenient to give it to you, you'll still have food to eat." Xu Lin was referring to the time when Zhou Pin waited for her to wake up before cooking and eating.
After dinner, Xu Lin sat on the sofa in the living room watching TV, touching her belly. Her waistline had become noticeably thicker recently. She couldn't let this continue; it was the apocalypse after all!
"What's wrong? Are you feeling unwell?" Zhou Pin asked as he returned after washing the dishes, noticing Xu Lin touching her stomach.
I've gained weight!
"I'll train with you when we get back to the base."
"Okay, we can't let the water out."
"Well, just don't back down."
"Am I that kind of person?!"
