Chapter 269 Provocation

After lunch, Xu Lin looked at the pears in the basket and prepared to make pear syrup candy.

First, juice the pears, remove the peel and core, cut them into chunks and mash them. Actually, a high-speed blender would be better, but that's not practical.

Boil the crushed pear juice over high heat until it boils, then reduce to the lowest heat and simmer for five hours, stirring constantly. The pear syrup will gradually thicken into a paste. The pear syrup is now ready.

Xu Lin stored some of the boiled pear syrup in sealed jars, keeping some out of the house and leaving the rest out in the open. When needed, simply take a spoonful, dissolve it in warm water, and drink it.

The pear syrup was kept simmering until evening. The two had dinner and then watched a movie. The movie ended around 10 p.m., and the two prepared to rest.

The surveillance footage showed several suspicious figures moving toward the fence.

Zhou Pin took out a walkie-talkie and told Sun Wei about the situation.

When those people came over, Zhou Pin wanted to give Sun Wei a walkie-talkie, but unexpectedly Sun Wei had the same idea, so there was no need to give it to him. It would be convenient for everyone to set up and communicate.

Sun Wei and his team have solar panels, so electricity isn't a problem. As for Xu Lin, the entire top of the container is covered by a large solar panel, so electricity is even less of a problem. With plenty of sunshine, they can cook and do laundry every day, and it can even power a refrigerator.

As the shadows drew closer, the surveillance footage showed eight figures walking towards them.

The other side had fifteen men, but only sent eight of them, probably thinking that Xu Lin and her group of five, including three women, would be enough to handle them.

However, the eight-person operation was destined to fail. As soon as they got close to the fence, three of them fell into the traps dug by Zhou Pin and Sun Wei.

The bottom of the trap was stuck with sharpened bamboo, which ruined the legs of the three men. One of them fell in on his stomach and was pierced by a thousand arrows, dying instantly.

The other five, seeing the situation was dire, were about to run away with their companions when they were surrounded by Shuke and Beta, who had rushed over upon hearing the news, and none of them were spared.

Xu Lin didn't want to kill them all, but their gleaming knives told her that if she didn't kill them, they would kill her; it was survival of the fittest.

The bodies of the five men were left exposed outside the fence, waiting for their accomplices to collect them. This was partly intended as a warning to the other side, but everyone knew that in the face of hunger, there was no humanity to speak of, and a few dead bodies would not serve as a deterrent.

The group waited in vain for news of their companion. When they went out to investigate, they discovered that their companion had died. The next morning, the leader and the rest of the group came to Xu Lin and her companions to demand an explanation.

"They're coming," Sun Wei said into the walkie-talkie.

“We didn’t even contact them, but they came to us anyway, so we grabbed our weapons,” Xu Lin said.

Xu Lin and Zhou Pin, each carrying a meter-long knife, met up at Sun Wei's house and walked together towards the front gate.

“Mom, you stay home. The four of us can come over,” Li Jingjing said.

"That won't do. We're all one, and we have to stand together against external threats. What kind of leader would you be, charging into battle while I'm left behind?" Old Mrs. Wu said, her head held high.

“Aunt Wu is so generous, let’s go together!” Xu Lin said.

So the five of them each took their weapons and went to the gate to fight, feeling quite like they were defending their home and country.

They were already shouting outside the door.

"We brothers were out hunting when we were killed by your vicious dogs. You have to give us an explanation!"

"Yes, give us an explanation! Our brothers can't have died in vain!"

"We are compatriots, after all. How could you harm your own people like this? How could you do such a thing!"

"Squeak~" The fence gate opened.
