Xu Lin took things out of her space one by one: various seeds, herbs, seedlings, mycelium, wood ear fungus, wild garlic, peanuts, dried chili peppers, and so on, until she filled the trunk and back seat. Shuke and Beta pitifully squeezed into the corner.
"Good boys, we'll be home soon. Just bear with it for a bit, you can play with your friends when we get home," Xu Lin comforted the dogs, patting them gently.
Shuke and Beta also have a friend in the villa area, a beautiful golden retriever. Xu Lin saw them playing together from afar and didn't disturb them, not knowing whose golden retriever it was.
We arrived at the base gate at 11 a.m., swiped our ID cards to go inside, and Xu Lin put Shuke and Beta out of the car. The car was too crowded, and the dogs wanted to get out for some fresh air.
Xu Lin was very happy to be back home after being away for more than ten days.
"We'll invite Dr. Dai and the others over for dinner tonight to learn about the base," Xu Lin said.
“Okay, I see that Dr. Dai and Zheng Ming are already in the base’s contact list. We’ll call them directly in a bit. You contact Dr. Dai, and I’ll contact Zheng Ming.”
Both Dr. Dai and Zheng Ming are public employees, so the base must have provided them with communicators for easy communication. They probably wouldn't buy them themselves, as the cost would be too high.
Since arriving at the base, Xu Lin has not made any friends. She doesn't trust anyone and keeps her distance from Dr. Dai and Zheng Ming, maintaining only appropriate interactions.
Although she has a spatial ability, in the apocalypse, self-preservation is the best policy.
The two first cleaned the house, then had lunch and took a nap on the second floor. They got up at 2 PM, Zhou Pin prepared dinner, and Xu Lin organized supplies. They could exchange supplies if anyone wanted to come over in the evening.
Around 5 p.m., the doorbell rang, and it was Wang Jing and Zheng Ming who had arrived.
"Linlinzi, welcome home!"
As soon as Wang Jing entered the door, she tried to give Xu Lin a big hug, but Xu Lin dodged it and took the pork and lettuce from Wang Jing's hands instead.
"This is my home, okay? If anyone should be welcoming you, it's me welcoming you as guests. Aunt Ning, Uncle Zheng, please come in." After rebuking Wang Jing, Xu Lin turned to Zheng Ming's parents behind her and said.
"You have no idea what has happened in the ten days or so you were gone."
"Come in and we can talk slowly," Xu Lin said, welcoming them into the living room.
Pine nuts, melon seeds, walnuts, and small wild fruits were laid out on the coffee table.
"Wow, you even have snacks at home! Do you need more kids?" Zheng Ming exclaimed.
"I don't need someone like you even if I need something else." Zheng Ming's mother slapped him.
"What's wrong with me?" Zheng Ming retorted, still unconvinced.
"280 months." Aunt Ning said without any politeness.
Just as everyone sat down, Dr. Dai arrived with Xiang Qing, bringing a piece of tofu and a bunch of garlic sprouts. Xu Lin, as usual, didn't stand on ceremony.
"Sister Linlin, I missed you so much." Xiang Qing hugged Xu Lin as soon as she entered the door. This time, Xu Lin didn't dodge. Who could resist the little beauty's embrace?
Zhou Pin had already investigated and found that Xiang Qing's family was all gone, so she had been following Dr. Dai. Dr. Dai's husband and son hadn't been found yet, but she refused to give up, and Zhou Pin was also keeping an eye on things for her.
Everyone took their seats, and Zhou Pin began serving the dishes. There was braised chicken with mushrooms, stir-fried bean sprouts, scrambled eggs with garlic sprouts, shiitake mushrooms and greens, cold black fungus salad, salted duck eggs, preserved eggs, stir-fried sea cucumber with scallions, pickled salted fish, stir-fried bamboo shoots with meat, and seafood soup.
"What a feast!" Xiang Qing was the first to exclaim.
"Aren't you two going to say something? If not, I'm going to start eating!"
