Chapter 1 Arrest

"Name."

"peaceful."

"gender."

"……female."

"age."

"Twenty-one, and twenty-two after the New Year."

The officer looked at her like she was an idiot, put down the file in his hand, and scrutinized her from head to toe before suddenly saying, "Confess. How many times has this happened? Where did you sell the missing children from the previous disappearances?"

Sitting across from him was a girl wearing a loose white hoodie, charcoal gray jeans, and her long, black hair tied into a low ponytail. She looked bewildered after hearing the officer's words. "Huh?"

"What do you mean, 'huh'? Hurry up and explain."

The young police officer sat up straight, his cold, sharp gaze fixed on An Ning, as if wanting to hear what other excuses this person had in store.

As expected, just as he had guessed, An Ning, sitting in the interrogation room, still looked at him with a puzzled expression, as if to say, "No way, what are you talking about?" She replied, "I really didn't abduct any children."

"You didn't abduct children? Then why didn't you do anything to help Nana find her mother after you met her at People's Square, and instead just took her away? During the process of leaving, you were also suspiciously checking the surveillance footage frequently. You say you didn't abduct her? Do you really think the police are easy to fool?"

An Ning blinked and said sincerely, "She said she and her mother got lost on Zhongling Road. After crossing the bridge on Binhai Road, you reach Zhongling Road. I'm taking her to find her mother."

"Looking for her mother? Zhongling Road is two or three kilometers away from People's Square. How could a five-year-old child walk all the way here by herself?"

"A little girl walking all the way from Zhongling Road to People's Square by herself... Can't the writers come up with something more realistic?"

“Officer, I’m quite naive. I believe whatever people say.” An Ning interrupted the young officer, her smile impeccable.

The young police officer immediately sneered, about to say something, but this time An Ning spoke first.

"Officer, I have a recording."

-

Half an hour ago.

"The black SUV in front, pull over immediately! The black SUV in front, pull over immediately..."

"What are you looking at? I'm talking to you!"

The girl with her hair in a high ponytail, sitting in the driver's seat, immediately pulled her head back out, looking completely bewildered.

ha?

Are you talking about her?

What did she do wrong?

Despite her doubts, the girl obediently pulled her car over to the side of the road, muttering to herself as she turned the steering wheel, "Please don't give me points for illegal parking. I wouldn't dare disobey the police officer."

The car stopped a second ago, and the uniformed police officers surrounded it the next second.

An Ning stared blankly at the unbelievable scene before her and opened the car door.

She regretted it as soon as the car door opened.

She saw the gun; the dark muzzle was pointed right at her!

An Ning subconsciously closed the car door again, put her hands on the steering wheel, and prepared to step on the gas and continue driving forward.

"Bang--"

A blank shot successfully brought An Ning back to her senses. With her senses restored, An Ning stared blankly at the toe of her foot that was about to step on the accelerator.

Wait a minute, why is she running away?

"Get out of the car! Open the door and get out!" a fully armed policeman with a gun shouted at An Ning.

An Ning obediently opened the car door and got out, then closed the door behind her.

But the next second, the police officer opened the car door again. "Why are you closing the door? Are you still trying to hide the hostage at a time like this?"

An Ning was even more confused. "Hostages? What hostages? I am a good citizen of China, there are no hostages on the bus."

Hearing her words, the police officer sneered and slammed the door open. "If there's no hostage, then who is she?"

The police officer stood at the car door, pointing inside with one finger. Following his finger, Anning saw a little girl sitting in the passenger seat, looking at her with big, watery eyes.

An Ning was silent for a moment, then said, "Officer, she is..."

"Is she your sister? Or your daughter? Do you think all the police are idiots?" Her words were interrupted as the young officer looked at her coldly.

“No.” An Ning shook her head, looking like an honest person. “I picked her up by the roadside.”

"I really found it, officer." Anning repeated herself, her eyes full of sincerity, afraid that the other party might not trust her.

But after hearing her words, the officer's expression became even stranger. Anning didn't know how to describe it, only that the officer's face looked as ugly as if he had swallowed a fly.

"You still say you're not a human trafficker? If you're not a human trafficker, then why is this little girl crying?"

The young policeman was at a loss when he saw the little girl in the passenger seat crying her eyes out. He was just about to go to his colleague to get a toy to comfort her when he saw the girl, who appeared to be a child trafficker, move two steps toward the car door.

He immediately became alert. "What are you trying to do?"

The gun in his hand snapped shut and was pointed at An Ning.

An Ning explained expressionlessly, "Officer, you seem to have frightened her."

"I... I scared her?" The young officer's face was full of absurdity, as if he were telling a load of nonsense. "Are you sure you didn't scare her...?"

"elder sister!"

Before he could finish speaking, a voice trembling with sobs came from inside the car, followed by a small pink bundle rushing into An Ning's arms and clinging tightly to her waist.

"Sister...this uncle is so scary..."

It's definitely a little girl's voice.

The person she was hugging was indeed the suspect.

But why is it that this righteous police officer is described as terrifying?

The young police officer tried to defend himself, saying, "Little sister, I'm a policeman, don't be afraid, okay? I'd like to ask if you know this lady?"

A muffled voice came from An Ning's waist, "I don't know her."

The young police officer immediately straightened his back and said, "Young lady, please come with us."

As he spoke, he took out a pair of silver handcuffs and prepared to put them on An Ning.

Upon hearing this, the little girl, who had been crying loudly while clinging to Anning's waist, immediately raised her head and defended the older sister who had taken her in, saying, "Big sister is a good person!"

The young police officer, his patience nearly exhausted, forced an awkward smile. "Then why did your mother call us? You and your mother clearly got separated in People's Square. Why would this 'kind' older sister drive you away from People's Square? Who do you think she's trying to take you to?"

His barrage of questions successfully stumped the young girl, whose mind was already slow. Seeing that she couldn't answer for a long time, he didn't wait any longer and successfully put the nationally standardized silver bracelet on Anning's wrist.

"The little girl's mother is at the police station. You'll have to come with us."

It seemed like they were asking for An Ning's opinion, but they didn't give An Ning a chance to refuse at all.

Anning: Can I refuse?
