Whether others knew or not, Anning did know, but she was different from them. She had never been to the police station. So she paused for a moment and replied, "I'm different. I'm a law-abiding citizen."
The other person might have looked completely drunk, but he was still somewhat conscious. So when he heard An Ning's words, he was stunned for a while before bursting into laughter. "Hahahaha, what a joke I just heard! Hahahaha... Little girl, you're so young, what crime have you committed to get here?"
Seeing his insistence that he had also been to jail, An Ning sighed helplessly and said with a regretful tone that she had managed to see through her disguise so well, "I was arrested by the police three times, kidnapped once, followed once, and fought once."
The man, who hadn't been quite clear-headed before, suddenly snapped back to reality. His eyes widened, and his gaze towards An Ning changed. After carefully scrutinizing An Ning from head to toe, he said sincerely, "I didn't expect you to be so accomplished at such a young age. I'm several years older than you and I've only been in there once. You, on the other hand, have been in there three times at such a young age!"
As he spoke, he gave An Ning a thumbs up, showing that he genuinely admired An Ning for being able to spend three years in jail at such an advanced age.
An Ning's initial desire to go back faded considerably, and she suddenly found this man rather interesting.
Thinking this, she slightly raised her head to look at the other person's face, revealing a grinning expression. "Yeah, I'm quite impressed with myself. Speaking of which, you asked me, but I haven't asked you yet. How did you get in there? How many years did you spend there?"
Upon hearing An Ning's words, a fleeting look of sorrow crossed the man's face, but he quickly concealed it with a bright smile, "Haha, I was in there for a year!"
When talking about how long he had been in jail, he seemed quite proud: "I didn't have to go in, but because I was sold out and people found out about the bad things I did, I went in and spent a year. I just got out a few days ago."
He never mentioned the specific reason why he went in, but instead glossed over it with other words.
Anning could tell, but she wasn't going to let him off so easily. "What did you do wrong?"
Her question was far too direct, and the man's smile gradually faded, his expression turning fierce. "What, aren't you afraid of me anymore? You still dare to chat with me?"
He still didn't say anything, but Anning just wanted to know. She nodded slightly as if she was thinking, "A year in prison is usually for a minor crime, so the punishment is lenient. But from your behavior, it seems that the crime you committed is not a minor one."
"Let me guess... Your crime must be serious, at least three to ten years. The reason you only served one year is probably not because you can't get out, but because someone bribed someone to reduce your sentence from at least three years to one year. And the reason you weren't released immediately is to teach you a lesson, right?"
"So, you must be a rich young master who just got out of prison and is still feeling down, but I just happened to run into you... Shall we go grab a bite?"
Jiang Yu never imagined that his past would be so easily guessed, as if he had no privacy whatsoever in front of her. The thought immediately ignited his anger, and he roared at An Ning, "Get out! Who do you think you are? Do you think you've guessed everything correctly? Wrong, you're wrong! I didn't..."
His roar stopped abruptly as he stared at the girl's actions. She grabbed his wrist, her warm fingertips touching his tattered clothes. Her fair fingertips looked so out of place against the ragged garment. Jiang Yu's gaze was fixed on that hand, and for a moment, all the words stuck in his throat.
Is this person crazy?
This was Jiang Yu's only thought at that moment.
If she wasn't crazy, why would she be willing to get close to him in this state?
It wouldn't be an exaggeration to call him a toad now.
"What do you want to do..."
"I'll treat you to dinner, are you coming or not?" An Ning looked up at him. He was very tall. Even though An Ning considered herself to be quite tall at 1.7 meters, he was obviously much taller than her, probably around 1.85 meters.
Jiang Yu looked down at her, and said in despair, "Don't regret it!"
"Of course not."
-
At a roadside fried rice stall in the snack street closest to Fengchao Community, where the highest price per serving is ten yuan, Anning and Jiang Yu sat facing each other. Seeing that the other hadn't touched his chopsticks for a long time, Anning nodded, "Eat up, don't be shy, I even added a sausage for you."
Jiang Yu shifted his gaze from the fried rice with sausage to An Ning, and after a long silence, asked, "And what about you?"
He glanced meaningfully at the empty table in front of Anning's seat.
The person cooked him a meal, but didn't even give himself a portion.
An Ning waved her hand, "I just finished eating, you eat."
After Jiang Yu hesitantly started eating, An Ning boldly asked, "How did you get in?"
Jiang Yu put down his chopsticks abruptly, halfway through his movement.
"I'm not eating anymore."
He immediately got up to leave, but An Ning quickly pressed him back into his seat with a kind smile on her face. "You've already eaten, can't you answer a few questions for me? I spent a fortune to buy this for you."
Forced back to his seat, Jiang Yu sneered, "If you had told me earlier that there was a price to pay for this meal, I wouldn't have eaten it."
An Ning shrugged. "There's no such thing as a free lunch. I thought you knew that."
I didn't expect you to need me to remind you.
These were Anning's unspoken words; she knew the other person could guess them, so she didn't say them aloud.
"He stabbed someone."
Three simple words.
After saying that, he pried Anning's hand off his shoulder and picked up the chopsticks he had slapped on the table again to eat rice.
He has been out of there for three days, and he has spent those three days in a daze. He has not contacted his old friends at all. The house in Fengchao was the one he left for himself before he went in. There are still a few hundred yuan in it. He has used those few hundred yuan to drink cheap liquor and smoke cheap cigarettes these days, but he hasn't eaten a single meal.
An Ning carefully considered Jiang Yu's words, and was shocked when she saw him flaunt half a bowl of fried rice in the blink of an eye. "Have you not eaten for days?"
While eating, Jiang Yu took a moment to answer her, "Three days."
"..."
"Boss, another order of fried rice with egg, this time without sausage."
Jiang Yu paused, "Add sausage."
An Ning's eyes widened. "No!"
The restaurant owner, holding a spatula, looked completely bewildered. "So, should I add it or not?"
An Ning gave a forced smile, "No, I'll pay for it."
