Chapter 24 New World Player: This round is all about looking cool!
Jason found Dick fast asleep on the lawn of Wayne Manor; he was sleeping soundly.
Jason's tense nerves relaxed slightly, and he patted Dick's thigh. "I was worried about you guys all night at Wayne Manor, and you're just sleeping soundly here! Do you think you've done right by me tossing and turning all night?"
Dick opened his eyes groggily, still not quite understanding what was going on, "Hmm?"
"Where's Bruce?" Dick, now fully awake, sat up in surprise, looking around blankly.
"Good question, I'd like to know too!"
The two exchanged information and immediately sensed that something was seriously wrong.
It is known that Dick was originally arrested by the Court of Owls, and it is also known that Jason investigated at Wayne Tower and that Bruce took away a large quantity of weapons overnight and their whereabouts are now unknown. The answer is obvious—
Dick suddenly realized: "Bruce has been arrested by the court."
Jason said with certainty, "Bruce went to court to demolish the house."
The two gave completely different answers and fell into a subtle silence. There was some understanding between them, but not much.
Regardless of the differences in the details, one thing is certain: Bruce went to court.
Jason and Dick used the Batcomputer to investigate; both had access to the Batcomputer database. The Batcomputer started up—a top-of-the-line computer that crashed immediately upon boot, either displaying a blue screen or a black screen, emitting a muffled sound before starting to smoke.
“This…it was broken to begin with, wasn’t it?” Jason and Dick stared at each other, and after a silent moment, they reached a consensus. They unanimously restored the computer screen to its original state, pretending that nothing had happened.
"The computer is malfunctioning." Jason said gravely. He hadn't been paying attention to the computer since he got back last night, and only now did he discover the problem with the Bat computer.
“Here are the documents Bruce left behind.” Dick flipped through the paper documents next to the printer, holding a stack of information and countermeasures that Wen Yue had previously investigated. The documents detailed the court layout, personnel composition, enemy weaknesses, and countermeasures in great detail.
“It seems he had anticipated this.” Jason flipped through the comprehensive documents and pulled out the contingency plan for Bruce’s disappearance from the bottom corner.
"Plan one... Dick puts on the Robin uniform?" Jason looked up in confusion. What the heck?
“Robin is a nickname my mom gave me,” Dick explained, scratching his head, unable to sort out his confused thoughts. “But what’s a Robin uniform?”
Jason's gaze settled on the display case of the battle suits in the Batcave. The once empty display case had gradually been filled over time, with the Red Hood uniform next to a uniform that had been added at some unknown time.
Dick followed Jason's gaze—a black hood, a bright yellow cape, a red shirt and green trousers paired with black tactical boots, and the familiar domino mask was exactly the same as Jason's.
Dick murmured to himself, stunned. "This is the uniform Bruce prepared for me?" He remembered Bruce's gaze lingering on his Claw uniform many times, and now, seeing this Robin uniform, he understood its meaning. It was a silent acceptance; he had long since become a member of the Wayne family…
A tattered black cloak hung beneath a slender silhouette, which leaned helplessly against a mottled wall. Thick blood seeped from beneath the red Kevlar suit, dripping continuously.
The Batman clone has been successfully retrieved by the player. The world's essence within the clone remains intact, and Barbatos has yet to obtain the world fragment. However, Wen Yue is not very skilled in her work; her attempt to steal the clone was discovered by the guarding monsters, and she is currently evading the search of those distorted monsters.
Barbatos, as an Old God, has an aesthetically pleasing appearance. The various dark creatures under his command are bizarre, unrestrained, and unconventional in appearance. Their ugliness is so striking that it brings tears to the eyes and saddens the heart. The inherent spiritual pollution is overwhelming.
After a long struggle with the monster, the player finally had a chance to catch their breath and rest during a break from patrolling. They were somewhat exhausted after escaping the tense atmosphere of the escape.
She forced herself to use pressure-sensitive hemostatic glue to stop the bleeding, gave herself an adrenaline injection, and then equipped the bat bracelet. The nano-bat armor smoothly covered her body, concealing the bloodstains on the player. Thanks to the armor's excellent sealing properties, temporarily isolating the blood-soaked Red Robin uniform, Wen Yue stealthily moved through the shadows and blind spots, avoiding the monsters' search and finding a new foothold.
"Boom!"
The massive impact seemed to shatter the air as the Batmobile violently smashed through the stone gates and burst into this mad city, tearing a corner of the dark sky apart.
The Batmobile's levitation system malfunctioned, causing it to pause in mid-air for a moment before plummeting straight to the ground and shattering into pieces. The built-in motorcycle, propelled by the malfunction, carried Red Hood and Robin, rampaging through the city, attracting hordes of monsters that swarmed towards them.
Wen Yue pressed the detonator remote control, unfolded her nano armor cape into a glider, and rushed towards the two of them, landing lightly on the motorcycle.
“I knew you’d come. Well done! The bomb I planted is about to explode. Get out of here and leave this world as soon as possible.” Wen Yue stood on the back seat, supporting Dick’s shoulder, her black cloak billowing wildly in the wind.
The time bomb left by the death knell finally came in handy. The distant explosions, like firecrackers, rang out one after another, gradually growing louder.
"This sound is wrong. Where did you put the bomb?" Jason frowned, sensing something was wrong, and slammed the accelerator to the floor.
"Chemical plant." Master math, physics, and chemistry, and you'll be able to go anywhere in the world without fear. The player uses a single bomb to create a chain reaction of attacks.
"I knew it..." A chain reaction ensued, with explosions erupting one after another, the words drowned out by the deafening roar of the blasts. The players, trapped for so long, unleashed their destructive tendencies, turning Crazy City into ruins in the blink of an eye.
The Batmobile, carrying the three, sped towards the door, traversing rubble and the shockwaves of the explosion. A deep trench suddenly appeared where the ground had collapsed; the three nimbly sprang into action, letting the motorcycle plunge down, while Jason pulled out his grappling hook and fired it at the door.
"Your grappling hook looks familiar!"
"This is yours!" Jason found it on the thirteenth floor of the building, which made them even more certain of Batman's whereabouts and led them to search quickly.
Jason thought it was a hint left by the player, while Wen Yue scratched her head, embarrassed to say that she had forgotten to take it.
The moment Wen Yue stepped through the gate, her pupils dilated and her whole body trembled as she sensed an incredibly massive object approaching from behind.
A sense of danger washed over her, and Wen Yue's waist tightened as she was thrown backward. Lost in mid-air, unable to find any foothold, the player instinctively looked back.
In the void beyond this universe, deep within the shattered, flowing light of the Milky Way, a chaotic and bewildering void slowly reveals the twisted and indescribable shadows of ancient gods. That is Barbatos, the ruler of the dark multiverse. The mastermind, long hidden, finally appears just as the players are about to escape.
"You can't escape—" came the vicious curse of the ancient god from the void. Heaven and earth reversed, reality was altered in the blink of an eye, space quietly shifted, the original exit disappeared into a desolate wasteland, and broken stones floated in the void, those were the stone gates that sealed this mad city.
"Hey, hey, why are you still cheating? The door's gone, how am I supposed to fight? Don't you understand? Games are only fun when there's back and forth!" The player angrily summoned an angelic halo. "Old Deng, take this Divine Judgment!" The player unleashed their ultimate skill online, casually making up a high-class, sophisticated name for their move. Who cares if it's called that or not, as long as it looks cool!
In battles where the disparity in strength is too great, you must unleash all your trump cards from the very beginning. Players unleash their auras and immediately enter self-destruct mode, using deus ex machina to bridge the massive gap in strength between the two sides.
A sliver of thin light proudly presented its brilliance. The bright energy converged, and an invisible wave of energy suddenly burst forth from the player's center. The restraints around the player's waist were dissipated by the overwhelming repulsive force, turning into embers that scattered in the air.
In the desolate silence and void of darkness, endless starlight rose from all directions, converging and merging into a singularity filled with light and heat. Within this pervasive black mist, a supreme sun appeared as if in a dream.
In the dimension of time, that halo, as sublime as the sun, is neither real nor illusory; it is both a fleeting moment and an immortal eternity.
A power transcending the dimensions of time and space erupted from that halo of compressed, immense energy. This radiant power, capable of dispelling or even severing all darkness, soared into the sky with unstoppable force, piercing the heavens.
Ignoring the constraints of physics, spacetime, causality, and dimensions, endless radiance bursts forth, with beams of light winding and expanding outward like a tidal wave. The clear light intertwines and overlaps infinitely, revealing complex and dazzling magical runes, constructing a flexible and ever-changing matrix of life equations. The incomparably magnificent and brilliant pure white light fills the entire space with unstoppable force.
The hazy black mist melted away like snow meeting the heat, and the chaotic darkness receded due to the brilliant light.
One side has to win, so why can't it be the players?
This magnificent scene will be unforgettable. The angel halo's self-destruction was incredibly powerful, but the experience time was too short. I don't know how long it will take to fully charge the halo's energy and use it again. Wen Yue went bankrupt from this big move and won't be able to recoup her investment anytime soon.
Barbatos roared in agony, unleashing a destructive surge of dark energy that rippled outwards like a tidal wave, sweeping infinitely and violently shaking spacetime. The void shattered and twisted, and illusory black holes appeared and disappeared, hovering on the boundary between existence and annihilation.
The space became unstable, causing ripples to spread. Wen Yue's feet suddenly gave way, and before she could react, she plummeted straight into the void below that had suddenly cracked open.
"Bruce—" Two figures followed closely behind Wen Yue's falling form. Even faster than them was the depleted Angel Aura. A halo entered the player's body, granting them the cheat-like resurrection armor.
With the halo of angels around, a gentle soul will not be extinguished by the death of the body. The only thing to worry about now is the two silly boys who jumped down with them.
The newly opened spacetime tunnel was filled with omnipresent dimensional storms, and the relentless gales raged and mercilessly cut everything in the dark passage. The torrent of spacetime swept the three of them toward an unknown direction.
“Jason…”
“Dick…”
At this moment, Wen Yue was filled with a myriad of thoughts. She resolutely pressed the final button on the bat bracelet. The ultimate mode of the nano armor was not attack, but protection.
The form-fitting bat armor slowly disintegrated into particles, with nanoparticles circling around the body before splitting into two waves and rushing towards Jason and Dick. Before their wide-open eyes, the nanoparticles enveloped and coalesced, transforming into armor that protected their entire bodies.
Countless multiverses intertwine and converge, and countless sharp points of light wander through unstable spacetime tunnels. These are shimmering galaxies formed by the convergence of numerous branches and main trunks, containing countless possibilities.
A fierce wind, carrying blade-like points of light, howled past, causing the tunnel's void to tremble and ripple, crushing countless stars into dust along its path. Jason and Dick's nanoparticles were rapidly depleting: [Nanoparticle damage 55%...75%...80%...]
The flowing sea of time surged into waves, transforming into a tsunami that swept in relentlessly like a tidal wave, engulfing the player's already battered body. The wind-eroded, tattered Red Robin suit teetered on the brink of collapse.
The pressure-relieving adhesive couldn't stop the player's blood from flowing out. The viscous red liquid scattered along the tiny wounds, swirling and dispersing with the light, refracting into sparkling red starlight.
This body belongs to the player, and this world is a game. To Wen Yue, this world is fake, but love is real.
Not all fish live in the same sea. But the world is so subtle, so full of wonders. The fact that Wen Yue and Jason Dick met in this world is a one-in-a-million possibility. She and they transcended the boundaries of dimensions and time, and this beautiful miracle ensured that players never treated them as NPCs.
It's time for this game to have a different gameplay style; it's time for the angelic version of stream-of-consciousness players to come online!
The time tunnel suddenly shattered, and a glimmer of life emerged from the fragmented pieces, leading the three out of the tunnel and into a calm, isolated zone. They passed through the world barrier without any resistance, and a brand new world opened up before them—
That world is calling out to the players for help. Originally destined to sink into darkness and face destruction, it takes a turn from this moment and gives rise to another possibility.
An unseen force gently lifted the player's body, bringing them to the ground. A warm, gentle breeze caressed the tattered Red Robin uniform, then drifted away and disappeared into the horizon. Jason and Dick, a few seconds behind, landed steadily and ran towards Wen Yue without stopping.
The nanoparticles were 95% damaged. After reaching a safe environment, they detached themselves from Jason and Dick's bodies and returned to the Bat Bracelet for repair.
This is Morse Square, one of Gotham City's five major squares. The surrounding lawns are vast and lush, and the interactive fountain in the center of the public square emits steam, relieving the harsh afternoon sun.
Although there weren't many citizens in the square, they all witnessed the scene of the severely injured Red Robin falling and the other heroes rushing to her aid. Some citizens hesitated before approaching the three in uniform, but Jason noticed and gestured for them to stop. After a moment's pause, they silently walked away.
Gotham, a city with a generally high birth rate and a high animalistic rate, is a crime capital shrouded in chaos and evil. Yet, even in this city, there are good people, albeit impure and few, whose actions genuinely aim to make the city a better place.
Jason picked up the unconscious Wen Yue and, after cleaning up the blood with Dick, immediately left the scene. Navigating the familiar yet unfamiliar maze of Gotham's old town, Jason and Dick raced towards their safe house, trying to find another version of themselves in this world. Although the details differed greatly, the general layout was Jason's style; in their haste, they took the nearest available house.
