Chapter 55 God Cosplayer: The Word of the Old Testament, the Law Follows the Word. ...
Having resolved the Gotham issue, the next step was to address the matter of sending the visitor from the other world back. The Batman from that other world single-handedly and remarkably repaired the time-travel device entirely on his own; the only remaining problem was how to recharge it.
"I've tried all sorts of energy, including mechanical, internal, electromagnetic, chemical, nuclear, and thermal energy, but none of them have reacted to the teleporter's energy tank. Only light energy shows a slight resonant fluctuation, but it provides so little energy that it barely makes a difference. After testing, I've determined that the energy required by the teleporter is related to light energy, but it's not a direct source of energy replenishment." Batman frowned and his jaw tightened in front of the Batcomputer.
"Light energy?" Wen Yue recalled the angelic halo composed of light particles and the later upgraded large optical disc. She seemed to know what kind of energy it was used for charging. This space-time converter was probably equipment specially modified and given to players by the world's consciousness. The player took the converter. "I'll give it a try."
Wen Yue closed her eyes and resonated with the converter. The main sphere in the center of the instrument became completely transparent under the influence of holy light, projecting the overlapping of spacetime, the rotation of nebulae, and the alternation of the universe.
The time-space converter has been activated, but its internal energy is not increasing at all, because Wen Yue's energy pool is also empty, and the player is penniless and has no energy to provide.
"Hmm, it works." Now all that's missing is someone to charge the player's energy. Wen Yue remembered that the world consciousness had said that players could use magic or the world's primordial power to charge their energy. Jason's Highcaste Blade from the Bat family could be somewhat related to magic, but the newly joined Raven was a pure magic user.
“We need magical energy, like Raven’s magic. It’s yours, Raven.” Wen Yue looked at Raven beside her. Raven nodded solemnly, raised his hands, and cast a spell. Dark, evil power erupted, its twisted, grotesque tentacles surging upwards, penetrating every crevice of the converter. Despite being a righteous superhero, the way he wielded his power made him look like a complete villain.
The energy bar of the time-space converter remained unchanged. Wen Yue frowned and reached out to cover the hand that Raven was using to exert its power. An invisible, intangible, and unstoppable light permeated the evil energy. The shadow of Raven's own half-demon power gradually faded under the holy light, leaving pure energy to slowly drive the device. The energy bar was filled and even overflowed in an instant.
“It’s full.” Raven stopped casting the spell, Wen Yue tossed the sphere around, and squinted her eyes in satisfaction.
"This device seems to be more than just a simple world-changing device." Batman scrolled through the data he had just collected on the converter's fluctuations, lost in thought.
"Indeed, the teleporter also has the functions of spatial folding, opening up new spaces, physically distorting space, and breaking spatial blockades." Inside the teleporter are instructions left by the world consciousness, information that only players can access. These functions are modifications and additions made by the world consciousness to the original system.
“You’re very familiar with this, even too familiar,” Batman questioned.
“I think I know who the mysterious person who gave Damian this device is. It’s a friend of mine, or you could say a fellow traveler.” Wen Yue tossed the converter to Batman, sat down in a chair, and spun around once. “So, are you leaving now?” the player asked Batman and Superman, raising an eyebrow.
Batman didn't reply immediately, but instead asked, "Damian, what about you?"
"I haven't found a way to revive Dick yet," Damian said from the corner. He wouldn't leave this world without reviving Dick.
"Don't worry about reviving Dick. I already have a plan." It's just a basic operation for a player-god; Wen Yue can do it. Having just converted the raven's magic, Wen Yue also extracted some energy to retain. It wasn't much, but it was just enough to complete the operation of reviving Dick.
"So, are you and Superman going first, or are you going together after Damian resurrects Dick?" Wen Yue gave the choice to the other party.
Batman and Superman exchanged a glance. "Let's go first. I made three communicators so we can contact each other later." Batman handed the communicator in his hand to Damian.
Wen Yue waited for a long time but didn't receive hers, so she pointed to herself and reminded her, "Did you forget something? Where's mine?"
“Your copy is already connected to the Batcomputer.” Batman brought up the communication interface. “But each communicator can only be used once.”
"That won't do. Let me debug it." Wen Yue used her God's Authority to secretly modify the communicator's underlying code, but the effect was limited to the player's current world. To influence or manipulate other worlds, the player needed to first apply for and obtain permission in those other worlds.
"I just upgraded it, and now the communicator in my world has unlimited messages. You can message me freely from either side. However, I can't modify either of your worlds, so it seems you'll have to cherish your message attempts. Or, I could act as a go-between." Players are experts at bypassing permission mechanisms to find system bugs.
Batman remained noncommittal, his heart yearning to return home. He and Superman had been missing for almost a week, and his world, Gotham, and his family needed him. "Superman and I are going ahead."
"Alright." Wen Yue activated the spacetime converter. The ethereal light resonated with the converter, and the central sphere slowly rose into the air, resting in the player's palm. A magnificent and sacred light enveloped the origin and the end, and an overwhelming aura that transcended dimensions and space inevitably leaked out as the light swirled and intertwined. The core sphere shone brightly, and a portal appeared in the air. Through the portal, one could see Gotham in another world. From the perspective of looking down from above Arkham, one could clearly identify the city on the other side of the world where the portal had opened.
Superman walked at the front, bid farewell to everyone, and then leaped into the portal and disappeared, with Batman following closely behind, his cape billowing.
"Alright, now it's time to revive Dick." Wen Yue turned around and smiled. "Let's not waste any time, let's begin now."
Damian nodded emphatically, his eyes filled with hope; he had been waiting for this for far too long.
Her sky-blue eyes, shimmering with dazzling sunlight, were imbued with divinity. Wen Yue extended her well-defined hand, her fingertips twirling in the air to draw a circle. A golden halo condensed in mid-air, solidifying from the ethereal. Dazzling runes swirled within it, exuding an aura of high status. The brilliant light instantly illuminated the entire Bat Cave before immediately dimming, its brilliance concealed within the semi-transparent halo.
With a gentle push of his palm, the halo moved toward Damian, and Wen Yue whispered softly, "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God." The words of the Old Testament became law. Under the declaration of the supreme being, Damian's body was enveloped in a layer of golden light.
"I am the resurrection, I am the life, the dead will rise again." Dick's sleeping soul drifted out of Damian's body, its radiant light gradually solidifying into a physical form, overflowing with vibrant life.
"The dying flame will not be extinguished, but will fill my light." The light gathered to its fullest and converged into the halo. A gentle breeze, seemingly from nowhere, lifted the wisps of hair on Dick's forehead. His calm, sleeping face stirred slightly, and his azure eyes slowly opened, the lingering confusion of someone just waking up from a dream still present in them.
The halo above Dick's head was sacred and radiant, making the whole scene seem like an angel descending to earth. The power receded, the light gradually faded, and the halo disappeared into Dick's body. Losing his support, Dick landed on the ground, his legs giving way as he knelt. Confused, he muttered to himself, "What...what happened to me?"
Damian unbuttoned his uniform cloak, the soft fabric draping over Dick's shoulders and covering his entire body. Overjoyed at having it back, he couldn't help but hug Dick tightly, answering his question in a deep voice: "Dick, you're back to life."
...
The whole process went smoothly, and Wen Yue's tense body relaxed. It would be easier to invoke God's authority by borrowing and adapting God's language; otherwise, the player wouldn't want to cosplay God. Reciting Old Testament words in front of strangers would be considered a public display of divine power, but reciting these words in front of acquaintances would be quite embarrassing. The player even lowered their voice, hoping no one would hear.
Hope is shattered; the answer is, of course, no.
Jason walked over with a chuckle and said in a funny tone, "I don't know who said it, but someone said: 'I have a friend. We asked him before where the halo came from.' What was his answer then?"
“A friend gave it to me!” Dick answered, raising his hand and responding in unison.
"Is that you, friend? Hello, friend, goodbye." Jason patted the player on the shoulder, teased him, and then left with a flourish, leaving behind the words, "I'm going to get some clothes for that Dick." He then took the elevator up to Wayne Manor.
"Hey, no..." Wen Yue stretched out Er Kang's hand. That angelic halo back then really was given to her by her friend's world consciousness! At this moment, the player quickly explained.
"Dick, you have to believe me, please believe what I say, don't misunderstand."
"Tim, please allow me to explain, what happened just now actually had little to do with me."
"Damian, you're not overthinking this, are you? I was just imitating God and muttering a few words."
"Nightwing Dick, the rules for using the Angel Halo in your mind are just friendly reminders from players, just like in a game. You didn't take them seriously, did you?"
When asked, no one uttered a sound; their answers were written all over their faces. The player collapsed in despair.
Everyone smiled politely: "Thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedule to come and give me this courtesy."
"Bruce, where was that 'Multiverse Annex: The Trinity Theory' we looked at last time? I can't find it." Tim's eyes gleamed, his fingers flying across the keyboard, expertly searching the Batman computer's database. Batman members had all received player-granted access, allowing them to freely search hidden, top-secret files.
"No, you're mistaken." Wen Yue denied it decisively. The document contained players' complaints about DC, and she deleted it overnight afterward, clearing all traces of the information.
“I remember it was something like… Existence, Origin, and the Great Void are a trinity, and Existence is considered to be God…” Dick gently stroked his chin as if recalling something.
"Alright, stop talking, I know you have a good memory." Wen Yue had no choice but to accept the facts and explain honestly: "I deleted that file. As for why I deleted it, it's because of the problem with the file itself. The theory is completely untenable. It's more like boasting and fabrication than a setting..." As a comic book reader, Wen Yue had also discussed this theory in depth. This setting only sounds impressive but is actually nothing. It's not reflected in the entire DC series at all.
"OK, OK, I believe you're making it all up. Stop making things up. I'm tired just looking at you racking your brains." Jason appeared in the Batcave with his casual clothes in hand and casually tossed them to Nightwing Dick.
Her heartfelt words went unheard; Wen Yue, helpless and bitter, sulked: Old Bat was secretly furious.
