Doctor Sun picked up the cup of water and just brought it to his mouth when there was a hurried knock on the door.
She was so scared that her grip loosened and the cup fell to the ground, splashing water and glass fragments all over the floor.
Doctor Sun looked down and hurriedly closed his eyes. The puddle of water on the floor reflected the little heads of babies.
These familiar yet unfamiliar faces were all the infants and young children she had resold over the years. Were they here for revenge?
"Sister, are you home? Open the door quickly!" Sun Haiying knocked on the door for a long time and heard some noises from inside the house. He knew that his sister must be at home.
Dr. Sun rubbed his eyes vigorously and stared at the floor carefully for a while. Fortunately, there was nothing but water and broken glass.
"Here I am, knock softly. I'm almost breaking the door down."
Doctor Sun opened the door listlessly. Sun Haiying looked at her in surprise: "Sister, have you not slept these days? Look at the dark circles under your eyes. They are almost as dark as those of a giant panda."
Dr. Sun scratched his head in frustration: "I have nightmares every night. I think I'm going crazy."
Sun Haiying sat down and waved the newspaper in his hand:
"I'm not much worse off than you. Ever since this report came out, the police have immediately closed down our restaurant. The door has even been torn down by cat lovers. The money I've earned in the past few years isn't enough to pay the fines. Can you give me some advice? What should I do?"
Doctor Sun looked at his sister thoughtfully: "It seems we must have offended some kind of deity, otherwise these strange things wouldn't have happened."
"Sister, you're a doctor! Why are you so superstitious? If there really were gods, wouldn't we have already—well, I mean, you're overthinking it."
Doctor Sun shook his head firmly. "What I said is true. Ever since I saw that kitten with a human face on your shoulder that day, I've often seen the children I sold these past few days."
"It wasn't a dream, I saw it for real. They appeared in front of me anytime and anywhere, asking me to take them to find their mother. I was about to collapse."
Sun Haiying realized the seriousness of the situation. She pulled Dr. Sun over and looked her over carefully. "Sister, I'm afraid you might have bumped into something unclean."
"I heard those yellow-skinned people love to use people's popularity to pretend to be ghosts and scare people. Think about it, if there really is a god in this world, would they wait until now to come to you?"
Doctor Sun rolled his eyes at his sister. "You talk as if you're so much better than me. You've done so many wicked things over the years! People say kittens are the most intelligent. I know exactly how many pet cats you've killed."
Sun Haiying smiled awkwardly: "Look, why are we two sisters still exposing each other's shortcomings? I just lost some money in this matter. Once the storm blows over, I can move to another place and change the storefront and continue the business."
"You're different. Trafficking infants and young children is a serious crime. You could lose your head if you're not careful. So you better get better soon. Don't let anything slip. If the police don't catch you, you'll end up in trouble."
Doctor Sun pushed Sun Haiying out impatiently: "Don't scare me here, or I'll be shot. I'll stay here for a while, you go back first!"
The words "lose your head" kept echoing in Dr. Sun's ears.
She locked the door, tremblingly took out a bunch of keys, opened a drawer, and pulled out a small notebook filled with records of the children she had sold over the years.
"If I hand all these over to the police, will it be considered a meritorious service and they will spare my life?" She muttered to herself, carefully counting the number of children on it several times.
"That's enough, enough for the death penalty. But I don't want to die yet!" Doctor Sun heard the words "lose my head" again.
The more she thought about it, the more frightened she became. She must not let anyone else see this little notebook and had to burn it quickly.
She hurriedly found her lighter and lit the notebook...
Then he quickly climbed onto the bed, grabbed the quilt to cover his head, and screamed hysterically:
"I don't want to die, don't shoot me. I didn't sell babies. They came to me first..."

Su Qingping put a bowl of wontons on the table and was about to help the old man sit up to eat.
The old man said, "Qingping, there's a cardboard box under the bed containing miscellaneous items. Please take it out for me."
Qingping agreed and took out a dusty cardboard box from under the bed.
When they moved in, they didn't bring anything but this box. Wang Xiaojun even said he wanted to throw away these useless things, which almost made the old man angry.
"Dad, here are some old tools and other things we brought from that house. Let's eat first!"
The old man stared at the box and said, "Open it. There's a photo album inside. Take it out for me."
Su Qingping opened the box and found some wrenches, pliers, screwdrivers of different sizes, a few old sockets and wires, and two notebooks for keeping accounts.
Su Qingping flipped through the pages and found that there was indeed a photo album.
Su Qingping took out the photo album and asked her father-in-law: "Is this it?" Su Qingping thought that the old man missed his wife and wanted to see the photos!
The old man continued, "There's a family photo in the middle of the album, and behind the photo is the property deed. Take it out."
Su Qingping found the family photo, and sure enough, there was a property certificate inside it.
"Turn two pages back. Behind the photo of Xiaojun wearing a red scarf is a property certificate. That's the house your mother and I live in."
Su Qingping held out the two property certificates to the old man. The old man took a look and said, "Put them away properly."
Su Qingping looked at her father-in-law in confusion, not knowing what the old man was up to.
The old man paused and continued, "Both property certificates have Xiaojun's mother's name on them. As for our house, forget it. She has the final say and can write whatever she wants on it."
"She was afraid that you and Xiaojun wouldn't be able to make it and end up getting divorced, so she wanted you to have half of the house. So when you bought the house before you got married, it was also in her name."
"Now that she's gone, the house belongs to you. Sell both houses and use the money to buy another one for the three of you to live in. The remaining amount will be enough for you to raise your two children."
"Don't worry about that bastard Xiaojun. Let him go wherever he wants. I've finally figured it out. As long as he's around, Yueyue and the child who was sold at birth can't expect to come back."
Su Qingping knelt down in front of her father-in-law with a thud: "Dad, you know everything? I thank you on behalf of the children."
The old man greeted Qingping with tears in his eyes: "You are such a kind-hearted child. If I hadn't heard your conversation with Qingqing that day, I wouldn't have known that Yueyue had been found."
"I'm the first heir to the house now. Sell it quickly while I'm still alive. Take the money and stay away from Xiaojun. That way, he won't get his comeuppance and drag you down with him."
Su Qingping wiped her tears and stood up: "Okay, Dad, when I buy a house, I will take you over. I can't just leave you alone."
The old man nodded with tears in his eyes, and said in his heart: "I will not be a burden to you with my old bones!"
