Zhang Shi used the same trick again, teleporting behind an ordinary mandrill and killing it. The mandrill leader missed again.
Having been tricked by Zhang Shi time and again, the mountain demon leader felt insulted and its anger intensified. But unlike other ferocious beasts that charged recklessly, it used its brain and turned to run towards the soldiers.
If I can't catch you, I'll catch your men; that's called an eye for an eye.
On the other side, Zhao Feng, wielding a large axe, was fiercely fighting among the mountain demons when a heavy fist came hurtling towards him like a cannonball. Sensing the danger, Zhao Feng didn't back down; instead, he used all his strength to sweep his axe horizontally, slashing at the heavy fist.
With a loud "duang," Zhao Feng's great axe flew out of his hand, and his body was sent flying by the force. The mountain demon leader screamed in agony, a deep, bone-revealing wound appearing on his palm, from which blood was now gushing.
Seeing this, Zhang Shi quickly teleported behind the mountain demon leader, intending to kill him with a single blow. However, the monkey was prepared. As soon as Zhang Shi teleported over, he was struck by one of its green palms, and his body was sent flying. Zhang Shi fell to the ground, feeling unbearable pain all over his body and unable to move. He hadn't been prepared for this sudden attack, and if it weren't for the protection of his black light armor, all the bones in his body would have been shattered.
Zhao Feng, who was standing nearby, was unharmed. He was helped up by the soldiers, took a few deep breaths, and mentally calculated how many times he had flown out in the past few days.
Having landed a successful blow, the mandrill leader tried to finish off Zhang Shi. The soldiers nearby concentrated their fire, countless muskets aimed at it. The steel balls, carrying immense kinetic energy, tore the unsuspecting mandrill leader apart, leaving numerous holes in its back. It howled in pain, but did not stop.
Seeing the critical situation, Zhao Feng recklessly hurled his great axe at the mountain demon leader, but it was clearly too late. At the crucial moment, the tiger head on Zhang Shi's black armor flashed with a blinding light, and Pipi transformed into a streak of light, emerging from the White Tiger space and slamming into the mountain demon leader's leg. The latter lost its balance and fell to the ground, whereupon the flint giant axe struck, hitting its rear end. Instantly, a deafening scream echoed throughout the forest, terrifying the mountain demon horde into abandoning their attack and scattering in all directions.
Zhang Shi's eyes lit up. Enduring the pain, he left a shadow in place, then flashed behind the mandrill leader and slashed down, cleanly severing a large hind leg. The mandrill leader cried out in pain, frantically throwing punches backward, but Zhang Shi had already flashed away. What followed was a deadly arrow, a triple strike from his shadow. The mandrill leader no longer dodged; the arrow struck its chest, easily shattering its flesh and sending a spray of blood flying.
Before the mandrill leader could react, Zhang Shi instantly transformed into his shadow, and then, as swift as the wind, Old Duan, his blade flashing with cold light, severed the mandrill leader's head with a single stroke.
Seeing their leader dead, the remaining mandrills climbed up the trees and fled in a panic. Zhang Shi squatted on the ground, panting heavily, while Pipi anxiously licked his mask.
Zhang Shi took out some food and medicine from his backpack and swallowed them in one gulp. His pain was immediately relieved. Although he could still feel waves of pain, it no longer affected his mobility.
Zhao Feng stepped forward, shook off the bloodstains from the axe, put it away, and turned to look at Zhang Shi.
"Stone, how are you? Are you badly hurt? Is it any big of a deal?"
Zhang Shi looked at Zhao Feng, who was still full of energy, and felt somewhat envious of his physique. In the past two days, Zhao Feng had flown out countless times, but each time he would recover completely after a short rest, truly a tanky beast.
Zhang Shi looked at the mountain demon leader, and with a thought, the system automatically converted the huge corpse into collectable loot.
[Mandrill's Token (Green) x1: A special token dropped after defeating the Mandrill Leader. Collecting all four tokens will summon the rare boss, the Mandrill King.]
[Monkey Wine 1kg (Green) x1: A fruit wine made from crushed fruits. Consuming it can enhance physical strength and resilience, and promote rapid recovery from injuries.]
Zhao Feng was rather dissatisfied that the mountain-sized leader of the mandrills had only dropped these two items.
"This thing is much harder to deal with than other zombies of the same level. Why is it so stingy? It didn't drop anything useful."
Zhang Shi picked up the leather bag containing the monkey wine and smelled it. A rich fruity aroma wafted up, making Zhang Shi's mouth water. He quickly removed his mask and took a big gulp of the wine.
Upon tasting the wine, it was sweet and juicy, like fruit syrup. As Zhang Shi swallowed, the wine transformed into a warm current, slowly flowing down his esophagus and into his stomach. Zhang Shi felt completely comfortable; the pain vanished, and a surge of energy welled up from his lower abdomen, instantly filling his body with boundless vitality.
"Brother Feng, you have to try this! This stuff is even more amazing than spiritual energy!"
Zhao Feng curiously took a small sip and immediately felt an inexhaustible surge of energy. He quickly gulped down another half-bag of liquor. A moment later, Zhao Feng's face was flushed, and he became somewhat restless, rubbing his giant axe between his hands, wishing he could immediately rush into the horde of mountain demons and wreak havoc. Unfortunately, the mountain demons had already dispersed, so Zhao Feng could only take his axe and rush into a dense forest to chop down trees and vent his energy.
The monkey wine was too potent, and Zhang Shi guessed that he had drunk too much at once, so he snatched the wine flask back, found the wounded soldiers, and fed each of them a small sip of the wine to heal their wounds.
Before long, the soldiers stood up again, full of energy and seemingly in high spirits, which put Zhang Shi at ease.
On the other side, Zhao Feng had already cleared a small patch of forest, creating a wide path for everyone. Seeing that his complexion had returned to normal, Zhang Shi pulled him back, preparing to continue exploring deeper into the forest.
"Judging from the number and size of these mandrills, there shouldn't be any other particularly powerful beasts around here."
Zhang Shi deduced that this should be the territory of the mandrill tribe, and there should be quite a few elite monsters like the Hulk.
"This elite monster is quite tough to beat, and the final boss it summons will definitely be incredibly powerful. In my opinion, it would be safer for us to call in more people."
Zhao Feng had a very clear understanding of the strength of the mountain demon leader, knowing that ordinary soldiers, no matter how many of them there were, would hardly be of any use against such elite monsters.
Zhang Shi considered it for a while, then shook his head.
Although the protective light barrier was still effective, it was still necessary to leave a trustworthy person to guard the home and the mining area. After all, the wilderness world was in a special period, and all forces were expanding rapidly. Zhang Shi was worried that if they went out in full force, their home might be raided.
