Outside, the wind howled and snow fell heavily.
Inside the stone house, it was warm as spring. Zhang Shi, dressed in short clothes, was sweating profusely in front of the boiling copper pot.
Prepare a dipping sauce with soy sauce, minced scallions and garlic, dip a piece of blanched fresh meat in it, and then swallow it in one bite.
Ah~ That feels so good!
The stimulation of delicious food healed Zhang Shi's heavy heart caused by the sharp decline in the number of survivors.
"Woof woof woof!"
Pipi was happily enjoying his premium bear meat sprinkled with barbecue powder when suddenly his ears twitched, as if he had sensed something. He immediately stood up alertly and barked towards the door.
Zhang Shi looked puzzled at Pipi's unusual behavior.
"Could it be that wild animals are causing trouble again? Isn't it daytime?"
Put down your chopsticks for a moment and open the shelter interface in the system panel.
With the help of the territory control module, Zhang Shi seemed to have eagle eyes and quickly discovered the anomaly in the spike trap in front of the door.
"Are there any living creatures inside?"
Zhang Shi immediately dressed, took out his bone bow, and ran out of the stone house with Lao Duan.
The wind and snow outside were blowing even more fiercely than in the morning, and large snowflakes filled the field of vision, making visibility very low.
As Zhang Shi approached the gate, he could hear a babyish meow, which sounded somewhat like a cat's meow.
Zhang Shi did not open the door rashly. Instead, he climbed up the watchtower and carefully investigated the area using the light from the searchlight.
Seeing that there was no danger around and that Pipi had given a warning, Zhang Shi came down from the watchtower, carefully opened the iron gate, and went to check the spike trap.
The other traps were covered with a thick layer of snow, but one of them was triggered, leaving a large hole in the ground. The childish voice came from inside the hole.
Zhang Shi, carrying an oil lamp, peered inside and discovered a small white animal. Due to the snow, it had fallen into the trap but was not injured by the spikes; however, it was unable to escape.
With a thought, Zhang Shi retrieved the spike trap.
The ground suddenly returned to a flat expanse of land, surrounded by snow, standing out starkly from its surroundings.
The little beast suddenly appeared on the ground, somewhat surprised, and even forgot to call out.
Zhang Shi looked over and discovered that the little beast was actually a white tiger cub. He put on his appraisal device and decisively used it to identify it.
"Ding! I can tell at a glance: it's a white tiger cub."
[White Tiger Cub (Juvenile Stage). Panel (Unlocked) Ability Values: 1 Evaluation: A future king of beasts, with limitless potential.]
Zhang Shi stepped forward, grabbed the little white tiger by the scruff of its neck, and lifted it up.
After the white tiger cub was grabbed by the neck, it seemed to be frozen in place, its whole body stiff and motionless, only occasionally letting out two soft, childish cries, as a symbolic resistance.
"Go ahead and scream, no one will come to save you even if you scream your lungs out."
Just kidding, a pet delivered right to my doorstep, why not take it? Raise it up, and in this wild world, which wild beast dares to block my way? Just lock the gate and unleash the tiger!
Zhang Shi glanced around, habitually looking in all directions, and unexpectedly made another discovery.
Not far ahead, there were several distinct footprints, but judging from their size, they definitely did not belong to the little white tiger in front of us.
"Could it be that Da Hu is seriously injured and is entrusting his son to someone on his deathbed?"
Zhang Shi imagined it all in his mind.
...
After closing the door, Zhang Shi led the white tiger into the house.
As soon as they entered the house, the little white tiger's cries stopped abruptly. Zhang Shi was a little puzzled, so he picked it up and took a look, only to find that its eyes were fixed on Pipi's food bowl, where there was still some uneaten bear meat.
Seeing this, Zhang Shi guessed that it was hungry. Seeing that it was not injured, he put it on the ground.
The little white tiger regained its freedom and shakily ran to the food bowl, where it devoured the bear meat, completely forgetting that it had been captured.
Pipi watched obediently from the side, showing no anger at all that her food had been taken.
After this little incident, Zhang Shi returned to the dining table and began eating. Completely unaware, a pair of green eyes were watching him from not far from the shelter.
After a satisfying meal, Zhang Shi lay on the bed, idly browsing the chat channel. Little White Tiger and Pipi were playing together, making a mess of the bedroom.
The stone house was filled with a warm and cozy atmosphere. Zhang Shi felt a little sleepy and soon fell into a deep sleep.
"Woof woof woof!"
"Awoo~"
Zhang Shi had lost count of how many times he had been woken up.
He rubbed his eyes, trying to wake himself up quickly. Zhang Shi glanced at the time; it was already past eight o'clock in the evening.
Zhang Shi entered the living room, where Pipi was still barking warily towards the door. The little white tiger imitated it, barking back at him.
"How annoying! Can't I get any sleep?"
Zhang Shi complained, dressed himself up again, locked the little white tiger in the stone house, and took Pipi out to check the situation.
"roar!"
As soon as Zhang Shi stepped outside, he heard a loud roar. The roar was powerful, piercing through the wind and snow, and reaching Zhang Shi's ears.
The tiger's roar startled all the beasts in the mountains.
Zhang Shi recognized the roar as that of a tiger and immediately snapped back to reality.
"Holy crap! What's going on?"
Zhang Shi slowly approached the gate. He could hear heavy objects hitting the iron gate. Pipi also watched the outside of the gate warily and stopped making a sound.
The beast outside noticed Zhang Shi approaching and roared, pounding even louder on the iron gate. Startled, Zhang Shi opened the shelter panel and quickly checked the gate's durability.
Fortunately, the iron gate was made of fine iron, and ordinary beasts couldn't break through it. Zhang Shi breathed a sigh of relief and, as usual, climbed the watchtower to check the situation.
In the wind and snow, a pure white tiger paced in front of the door, occasionally pounding on the iron gate, trying to break in. Its large, copper-bell-shaped eyes gleamed with a yellowish-brown light in the night, and its ferocious face made Zhang Shi's heart tremble.
Zhang Shi suppressed his fear and used his appraisal skill on the white tiger.
"Ding! I can tell at a glance: White Tiger."
[White Tiger (Restricted) Panel (Unlocked) Ability Value: 55 Evaluation: King of Beasts, its strength and speed far surpass ordinary beasts. Due to the beginner stage of the Wilderness World, all its attributes are greatly weakened.]
Although its grade is not discernible, judging solely from its abilities, this white tiger far surpasses the wolf king, and its quality is at least above the exquisite level.
Knowing he couldn't defeat the enemy by force, Zhang Shi, though protected by the walls, dared not let his guard down and began to think of ways to break through.
"The snowstorm is too heavy; archery is out of the question."
The white tiger below spotted Zhang Shi, but did not react, continuing to stare intently at the iron gate.
Zhang Shi noticed the anomaly and immediately thought of the little white tiger.
"Am I a human trafficker?"
Zhang Shi quickly ran back to the stone house, took the little white tiger out, and returned to the tower.
The little white tiger howled, and the white tiger below, upon hearing the sound, suppressed its anger and stopped moving, staring motionlessly at Zhang Shi.
Zhang Shi determined that the beast's target was the white tiger cub. He then took out a wooden bucket, tied a rope to it, and placed the white tiger cub inside. He lowered the bucket along the fence.
"I'll give your brat back to you. It came looking for itself. It's none of my business."
Seeing Zhang Shi put down the wooden bucket, the tiger gradually calmed down. Once the bucket hit the ground, it grabbed the white tiger cub by the scruff of its neck and disappeared into the snowstorm without looking back, leaving only a trail of footprints.
Zhang Shi stared in the direction it had gone, somewhat lost in thought.
