Perhaps because their flesh and blood had all rotted away, these zombies were very slow and moved as stiffly as puppets, and did not seem to pose much of a threat.
Zhao Feng breathed a sigh of relief, grabbed his large axe, and charged forward, smashing the two skeletal zombies to pieces with a few strokes. However, before Zhao Feng could find his next target, the two fallen skeletons exploded without warning, startling Zhao Feng.
The dust from the explosion filled the air like smoke. Zhao Feng was not injured by the explosion. After easily dealing with another zombie, he retreated to check the situation.
Sure enough, the zombie exploded on its own not long after, also creating a cloud of dust.
Zhao Feng frowned, realizing he had inhaled some dust. His throat began to itch, and his eyes stung. He realized the dust might contain toxins and quickly held his breath, covering his mouth and nose with his hands, but it was too late.
"Oh no, this dust is toxic!"
Zhao Feng shouted to warn Zhang Shi and Ge Dalong to be careful.
Upon hearing this, Zhang Shi and Ge Dalong immediately became alert and retreated to avoid inhaling more dust. Zhang Shi quickly took out some antidote from his backpack, tossed one to Zhao Feng, and took one himself just in case.
"Quickly take the antidote!" Zhang Shi shouted.
Zhao Feng took the antidote and swallowed it without hesitation. However, this antidote was developed for the zombie virus and seemed to have no effect on this dust toxin. The poison quickly invaded Zhao Feng's body, and he began to feel dizzy and weak in his limbs.
"I...I might not be able to hold on any longer..." Zhao Feng's voice began to tremble, and his body swayed precariously.
Upon seeing this, Ge Dalong immediately stepped forward to support Zhao Feng, while simultaneously releasing a water wall to block the zombies' path forward, and the two quickly retreated.
"Hold on, Zhao Feng! We can't fall here!" Ge Dalong encouraged.
Zhang Shi looked around and found that the zombies were still approaching, and their bodies seemed to be changing. The flesh attached to the bones gradually turned dark red, and the originally shriveled skin slowly swelled up, until it was like a balloon, as if it would burst at any moment.
Zhang Shi felt a chill run down his spine, realizing that the changes in these zombies were no accident and were likely being manipulated by someone behind the Mud Monster in an attempt to deplete their fighting strength.
"We must leave here as soon as possible, it's too dangerous here!" Zhang Shi shouted.
Ge Dalong nodded, helped Zhao Feng, and retreated with Zhang Shi. However, the zombies seemed endless, constantly surging in from all directions and surrounding them.
"What should we do? We'll be trapped like this!" Zhao Feng said anxiously, his voice already hoarse, clearly the poison was taking its toll on his body.
Zhang Shi took a deep breath and said with a determined look in his eyes, "We can't just sit here and wait to die. We must find a breakthrough and break out!"
As he spoke, Zhang Shi summoned Shadow Slash and killed several zombies in front of him, preparing to use Shadow Step for further action. However, just as he was about to activate the skill, a zombie suddenly appeared silently beside him and exploded, the powerful impact sending Zhang Shi and the other two flying.
Zhang Shi crashed heavily to the ground, feeling a sharp pain in his chest. He struggled to his feet and found that Ge Dalong and Zhao Feng had also been thrown to the ground by the shockwave. Zhao Feng, in particular, had turned as pale as paper, clearly indicating that the poison had invaded his heart.
This explosion was extraordinary, with effects no less than those of a suicide bomber. Moreover, it also released toxic dust along with the explosion, and all three of them were caught off guard and were poisoned.
"Damn it, where did these zombies come from?"
Zhang Shi was extremely anxious. He watched as Zhao Feng grew weaker and weaker, and before he could find a way to break the spell, he and Ge Dalong had also fallen victim to it.
"We must find the antidote as soon as possible, otherwise Zhao Feng will be dead!" Ge Dalong said anxiously.
Zhang Shi nodded, looked around, and found that the zombies were still approaching, and their bodies had swelled to their limit, as if they would explode at any moment.
"We can't stay here; we must find a way out as soon as possible!" Zhang Shi said.
Ge Dalong helped Zhao Feng up, and together with Zhang Shi, they fled towards the edge of the thick fog. However, the zombies seemed to follow them like shadows, and no matter where they ran, zombies would follow.
"This can't go on, we have to find a way to get rid of these zombies!" Ge Dalong shouted.
Zhang Shi kept throwing bombs into the horde of zombies, but the zombies continued to pour out of the village entrance, as if a zombie nest had been hidden in Huo Family Village.
"Damn it, where did all these zombies come from? There must be close to a thousand of them now."
Just as Zhang Shi was silently counting in his mind, estimating that the number of zombies was approaching a thousand, an ominous aura suddenly surged from the thick fog. One after another, dark shadows silently emerged from the fog. They were huge in size, but moved with extraordinary agility, like ghosts in the night, silently dragging the zombies that were about to explode into the thick fog.
"Look! What's that?" Ge Dalong exclaimed, his gaze fixed on the dark figures, his eyes filled with disbelief.
Zhang Shi also noticed this anomaly. He quickly analyzed the situation. Although he didn't know where these shadowy figures came from, their actions relieved a lot of pressure for Zhang Shi and his companions.
Although Zhao Feng was weak, he was still conscious. He barely opened his eyes and vaguely saw this scene. A glimmer of hope welled up in his heart: "Reinforcements have arrived?"
However, their hope was short-lived, as the shadowy figures did not immediately show any friendliness. They simply continued clearing away the zombies silently, ignoring Zhang Shi and his companions without offering any indication of communication.
"No matter what, this is an opportunity!" Zhang Shi made a decisive decision. He helped Zhao Feng up and said to Ge Dalong, "Let's take this opportunity and get out of here quickly!"
Taking advantage of the shadowy figure clearing out the zombies, the three quickly moved towards the edge of the thick fog. Every step was fraught with unknowns and dangers, but they knew that staying here would only lead to certain death.
As they approached the edge of the dense fog, the behavior of the shadowy figures became increasingly perplexing. They seemed to be channeling some kind of power, completely isolating the zombies within the fog, while the fog itself seemed to be responding to some kind of call, growing ever thicker, as if forming a natural barrier.
Looking at the vast number of zombies, Zhang Shi felt his body growing increasingly heavy; he knew the zombie poison was taking effect. The dark figures in the thick fog couldn't keep up with the zombies' pace in closing in. Gritting his teeth, Zhang Shi led the two men and plunged into the fog.
Finally, just as Zhang Shi and his companions stepped into the thick fog, a deafening roar came from behind them—the sound of zombies exploding simultaneously. The massive shockwave almost knocked them off their feet. Fortunately, since they had already left the epicenter of the explosion, the force did not cause them any real harm.
Looking back, the thick fog had completely blocked the direction of Huo Family Village. The shadowy figures and zombies had disappeared into the fog as if they had never existed.
"Everyone be careful, this place might be even more dangerous than Huo Family Village."
Ge Dalong, panting heavily, cautiously surveyed his surroundings.
