After the snake's corpse fell to the ground, it turned into a pool of sewage that seeped into the ground. Zhang Shi witnessed this scene but did not stop. Instead, he turned around and ran towards the place where the chanting had come from. However, there was nothing there except a layer of fine dust.
Zhao Feng searched the palace again, but aside from finding it to be a sealed space, he didn't discover anything substantial. Zhang Shi, worried that monsters like the black snake might appear again, discussed it briefly, left a mark inside the palace, and then hurriedly left.
...
At the same time, Ge Dalong was holding a magic wand, watching the giant black snake in front of him warily. The magic power in his hand fluctuated constantly, ready to be condensed and launched at any time.
Before being swallowed by the earth beast, he put on an ice armor, which allowed him to withstand the beast's impact and remain conscious while witnessing the entire process of himself and his teammates being devoured.
After they were swallowed by the earth beast, the golden token in Zhang Shi's hand separated into several light screens that enveloped everyone, including the three-headed monster.
He saw everyone being submerged in mud, and the golden light curtain automatically opened up a space, protecting them inside. Then came a violent shaking; all around was mud, with no landmarks. Ge Dalong gradually lost his sense of direction in the confined space, but he could still remember a general direction.
Once the tremors subsided and the underground area stabilized, the light barrier dissipated. Ge Dalong knew he needed to find his companions as soon as possible, so he began digging without stopping. However, after several hours of arduous work, he not only failed to find his teammates but also unearthed a snake pit filled with dozens of small, black, eyeless snakes. After killing the small snakes, he attracted the larger ones, and the two remained locked in a stalemate for nearly two minutes without making a move.
The only good news for Ge Dalong was that the snake cave was interconnected and clearly connected to other places, and it was not lacking in oxygen, which solved one of his biggest problems.
Using the eerie light emitted by his wand, Ge Dalong could see its black exterior and realized it had no eyes. He knew that confronting this giant black snake, which had no sight and acted solely by its senses, required unconventional methods. He quickly devised a plan in his mind and decided to use the snake's usual sensitivity to sound and vibration to launch a feint attack.
He carefully took some strongly scented food from his backpack and tossed it onto the ground in front of him, hoping the smell would distract the black snake. Then, he took a few steps back, trying to move quietly and silently to avoid startling the snake. Next, he gently waved his wand, releasing a faint wisp of magical energy to attract the snake's attention. Sure enough, the black snake twitched slightly, seemingly trying to detect the source of this faint energy.
Seeing this, Ge Dalong was overjoyed and immediately took action. He first deliberately threw a dagger to the left, making a slight metallic clanging sound, as if he had set a trap there. The black snake fell for it, its massive body slowly turning to the left, preparing to attack.
However, just as the black serpent was about to launch its attack, Ge Dalong suddenly leaped out from the right, his wand flashing with a dazzling ice-blue light, condensing into a cold, frost arrow that shot straight at the black serpent's vital spot. This strike concentrated all his magical power; its speed and strength surprised even himself.
The frost arrow traced a perfect arc through the air, striking the black serpent's vitals with pinpoint accuracy. The serpent's massive body shuddered violently, followed by a deafening wail as it rapidly froze, gradually losing its vitality.
Ge Dalong did not immediately lower his guard. He knew that this was inside an earth beast and feared that these black snakes might possess some unknown regenerative ability. He maintained his attack stance, releasing continuous frost waves with his wand to ensure that the black snakes were completely powerless to resist.
Finally, when the black snake's massive body was completely covered in frost and showed no signs of life, Ge Dalong breathed a sigh of relief. He wiped the sweat from his forehead and let out a long sigh.
After the battle, Ge Dalong began to check his condition. He had been digging tunnels for several hours under the negative effects of the glass cannon, and his physical strength was greatly depleted. He needed to rest for a while to recover.
After inspecting the snake hole and confirming that there was no danger, he sat cross-legged on the spot, ate some food to replenish his strength, and observed the structure of the snake hole.
Ge Dalong looked around and found that the snake cave was indeed interconnected, leading to the outside world. A glimmer of hope rose in his heart; perhaps he could find a way out through this snake cave. After a moment, he felt his strength returning somewhat, so he put away his wand, picked up his shovel, and began to explore deeper into the snake cave, searching for a possible way out.
Ge Dalong explored deeper into the snake cave, his shovel striking the cave wall intermittently with a "thump-thump" sound. The air inside was somewhat damp, but still relatively fresh, which offered him some comfort. He knew he had to find a way out as soon as possible; otherwise, if he ran out of strength or food, the consequences would be dire.
Just as he was engrossed in digging, he suddenly heard a strange sound. The sound seemed to be coming from afar, yet it was unusually clear. Ge Dalong immediately stopped what he was doing and listened intently. The sound grew closer, seemingly a rhythmic tapping sound, mixed with low breathing and conversation.
"Could it be... someone else?" A thought flashed through Ge Dalong's mind, and a glimmer of hope arose within him. He quickened his pace, digging in the direction the sound came from. Soon, he broke through the tunnel and saw an open space with a faint light ahead, a light that shone brightly in the darkness.
As he drew closer, Ge Dalong finally saw what was ahead. It was a man-made tunnel, and at the entrance, two figures were busily wielding tools, occasionally letting out low breaths and talking.
"It's Zhang Shi and Zhao Feng!" Ge Dalong recognized the two figures at a glance. He was excited and immediately shouted.
Hearing the shouts, Zhang Shi and Zhao Feng immediately stopped what they were doing and turned to look in Ge Dalong's direction. When they saw Ge Dalong, their faces lit up with surprise and joy.
"Old Ge! You're still alive! That's wonderful!" Zhao Feng shouted excitedly.
Ge Dalong strode to the entrance of the passage and embraced Zhang Shi and Zhao Feng tightly. The three of them were sworn brothers, and their joy and excitement at reuniting in this perilous underground world were indescribable.
"Are you all alright?" Ge Dalong asked.
Zhang Shi briefly recounted his previous experiences to Ge Dalong, including how they woke up, how they got lost in the underground palace, and how they killed the Black Serpent. After listening, Ge Dalong also recounted his own experiences.
"It seems we've been through quite a bit these past few hours," Zhao Feng remarked.
Ge Dalong smiled and nodded.
"It's good that everyone is safe. Now we're just missing Wu Qing. Let's keep searching and find everyone as soon as possible so we can find a way to get out."
