Chapter 60 I Have Something to Say to You
Then came the sound of hurried footsteps, which faded away after a while.
Jiang Xiaohong did not immediately come out of the corner. She continued to hide herself in the dimly lit corner. In order not to be discovered, she did not get too close and did not see anyone, but only heard voices.
After more than ten minutes, when there were no more sounds, Jiang Xiaohong wiped the cold sweat from her face and realized that her back was also soaked with cold sweat. She quickly ran back to her dormitory.
Once she got to her dorm and closed the door, she felt a wave of fear wash over her; thankfully, she hadn't been discovered.
But after her initial fear, she began to worry about the girl who had been harassed by Zhang Qiang. Could the person who had just questioned her be looking to get revenge on that girl?
She knew from the conversation that the girl was an educated youth from the Red Star Brigade, and she also knew her name, but Jiang Xiaohong was too afraid to go and warn the girl. She was afraid that the girl was already being watched, and if she went to her, she would also be watched.
This year, Jiang Xiaohong was not only saddened by her family's attitude, but also troubled by repeated fears and the dilemma of whether or not to remind Xu Jiajia. She did not experience the joy of the New Year at all.
Ning Xuan and Xu Jiajia finally saw the arrival of spring, and the team was preparing to resume work.
Ning Xuan and the others took a stroll around the commune before work started. Although Ning Xuan had everything she needed, she was quite bored after being cooped up in the brigade for so long, so she came out to get some fresh air.
Neither she nor Xu Jiajia expected that the saleswoman who sold them yarn last time would remember her, Xu Jiajia.
The young girl, with a round face and a cheerful smile, apologized to Ning Xuan and the other girl with an embarrassed expression, "I'm really sorry about last time. I can't afford to offend their family. At best, I might get scolded, but I'm afraid I'll lose my job."
Afraid of being overheard, the girl lowered her voice and said, "I have some yarn here that's a little flawed. The yarn itself is fine, it's just that the dyeing isn't very even. Do you want some?"
Ning Xuan already had quite a bit of yarn, and neither she nor Xu Jiajia needed it, but they were both curious about what flawed yarn looked like, so they nodded anyway.
The little girl was overjoyed, feeling that the guilt in her heart had dissipated. Then she secretly took out the flawed yarn she had put away and showed it to Ning Xuan and the other girl.
Ning Xuan thought the thread was quite pretty. Because the dyeing was uneven, it had a gradient tie-dye feel, though it wasn't as colorful as modern tie-dye. It was a red gradient, with shades of dark red, bright red, and light red, but it was still quite nice.
The girl seemed quite honest, and since it wasn't expensive, Ning Xuan and Xu Jiajia bought it separately.
Xu Jiajia was thinking of knitting another sweater for her mother and sending it back home, while Ning Xuan was simply knitting to pass the time when she was bored.
Carrying the packed yarn, the two planned to go to the state-run restaurant to meet up with Lu Xun and the others.
Unexpectedly, the accident happened so suddenly.
Ning Xuan felt that they and this young girl's counter were incompatible, how did they end up running into trouble here again?
Looking at the yarn rolling on the ground and the girl she had knocked down, Ning Xuan didn't know how to describe her feelings.
It wasn't that she was upset about the yarn getting dirty, but rather that she was surprised that the girl she bumped into was Jiang Xiaohong.
However, Ning Xuan quickly calmed down. It was alright. She had covered her face and deliberately lowered her voice, so the other person wouldn't recognize her.
But the truth was exactly the opposite of what Ning Xuan thought. The reason Jiang Xiaohong was hit was because she saw Ning Xuan's back and felt that she looked very familiar, which reminded her of the girl who saved her.
Then she moved closer and listened carefully to Ning Xuan's voice. Although it was different from Ning Xuan's voice when she was in disguise, Jiang Xiaohong, who had taken the Rejuvenation Pill, was surprisingly sensitive to voices.
She recognized Ning Xuan as the girl who had saved her. So engrossed in listening and excited to have met her savior, Jiang Xiaohong didn't even notice that Ning Xuan and the others had turned around.
Then, when she heard the sound, she unconsciously moved forward a lot, getting very close to Ning Xuan, which caused Ning Xuan to turn around and knock Jiang Xiaohong over.
Ning Xuan reached out and helped Jiang Xiaohong up. "Are you alright? Were you hurt when I bumped into you?"
Ning Xuan knew she was strong. When she turned around, she was just walking normally without consciously controlling her movements. Due to inertia, she was afraid she might have bumped into someone and hurt them.
Jiang Xiaohong was actually in some pain, but she thought it was nothing serious, so she shook her head and instead stared at Ning Xuan's face.
Seeing Jiang Xiaohong shake her head, Ning Xuan felt a little relieved. She then squatted down and picked up the yarn with Xu Jiajia.
There were only a few balls of yarn, thankfully they didn't come apart, just got a little dusty. After packing the yarn away, Ning Xuan checked with Jiang Xiaohong again, "Are you really okay? If you're in a lot of pain, I'll take you to the hospital, and I'll pay for the medical expenses."
"No, no, I'm really fine. I was just standing too close. You didn't mean to," Jiang Xiaohong waved her hand.
After confirming that Jiang Xiaohong was alright, Ning Xuan prepared to leave. "Jiajia, let's go to the restaurant and meet them."
Hearing Ning Xuan call out to Jiajia, the girl next to her, Jiang Xiaohong's brain, which had become somewhat sluggish due to encountering her benefactor, suddenly snapped back to its normal state.
"Wait a minute, if I may ask, are you from the Red Star Brigade?" Jiang Xiaohong stopped Ning Xuan, who was about to walk away.
Ning Xuan raised an eyebrow, wondering how she knew she was from the Red Star Brigade, but she still nodded.
At this point, Jiang Xiaohong was pretty sure that this Jiajia was Xu Jiajia, but they were still in the department store, and it wasn't a place to talk with people coming and going.
So she leaned closer to Ning Xuan and whispered, "Can we go outside and find a less crowded place? I have something I want to tell you."
Having confirmed through her voice that Ning Xuan was her savior, and then coincidentally running into Xu Jiajia, Jiang Xiaohong, after much hesitation, finally decided to warn Xu Jiajia that someone was inquiring about her.
Because Ning Xuan had met Jiang Xiaohong before, although she felt that Jiang Xiaohong did not recognize her, she still thought that Jiang Xiaohong was a good person. Ning Xuan decided to listen to what Jiang Xiaohong had to say to her.
The three of them walked out of the department store and into a place where they could see crowds but there was no one there.
"What do you want to say to us?" Ning Xuan asked.
Jiang Xiaohong looked at Xu Jiajia beside her, "I want to confirm first, are you Xu Jiajia, an educated youth from Hongxing Brigade?"
Xu Jiajia nodded.
“That makes sense then. What I was talking about is related to you.” Then Jiang Xiaohong recounted the conversation she had overheard that day to the two of them.
After hearing Jiang Xiaohong's words, Ning Xuan and Xu Jiajia both had their own guesses.
