"Everyone come and try it! These bee pupae are high in protein!" Lu Qiqi said, using a bamboo strainer to scoop the bee pupae out of the oil pan, drain the oil, and pour them into a porcelain basin.
The little radish heads, who had been waiting in the kitchen, couldn't wait any longer. They lined up, washed their little hands, picked up their chopsticks, and aimed them clearly at the porcelain basin.
"It's delicious!"
"It smells so good!"
On Thursday and Friday, I picked up a bee larva and put it in my mouth. I couldn't help but praise the crispy outside and tender inside of the bee larva.
Little Xi Bao was too short to reach the counter. She stood to the side on tiptoe, craning her neck as far as she could, but she still couldn't see the delicious food in the porcelain bowl. She was so anxious that she kept jumping up and down.
No one knows a daughter better than her mother. Li gently pinched the tip of Xiao Xibao's nose and chuckled, "You little glutton!"
Li immediately picked up little Xibao, took the chopsticks from Xibao's hand, and fed a bright yellow bee larva to Xibao's mouth.
Little Xi Bao savored the food like a gourmet, then exclaimed with a smile, "Delicious! Mommy, more!"
Everyone was amused by Xibao's greedy expression.
Lu Qiqi laughed and said, "Third Aunt, these pupae are high in protein. Let's eat as much as we want today. We'll also bring out some wine later for Third Uncle and Eldest Uncle to enjoy with their drinks."
Third Aunt Li looked at the large basin of bee pupae and said, "How can we possibly eat all of these bee larvae in one go?"
Lu Qiqi hadn't expected there to be any bee pupae left, but it was easy. She said, "These fried bee pupae can be stored for a while. We can put them in a jar and reheat them briefly when we want to eat them."
Li nodded, put Xibao down, took a smaller bowl, and placed the bee larvae on the large round table in the main room.
Even this small bowl is enough for their family of more than ten people.
Lu Qiqi fried a pot of bee pupae, and the rest of the dishes were cooked by Li and Lu.
Lu Qiqi took out a large jar of wine from her spatial storage, which was kept in the kitchen.
She still had quite a few items left in her space, all of which she had collected from the bandit leader's room; they were presumably the bandit leader's treasures.
Lu Qiqi filled a porcelain bottle with wine and gave it to the three men in her family.
For the children, I used dried hawthorn slices and honey to boil a pot of sweet water to aid digestion.
Lu Qiqi was the first to take a bite; it was sweet and sour and very delicious.
After Li and Lu finished cooking the dishes, they placed them on the round table, and the family sat around it together.
Lu Dahai, Li Qingshan, and Hu Jinfei each had a bowl of wine in front of them.
The children had hawthorn and honey water in front of them, and the whole family enjoyed it to their hearts' content.
The Zhou brothers, in particular, were eating bee pupae with great gusto, probably because they had been stung by them earlier and were now getting their revenge.
Halfway through the meal, Mrs. Lu suddenly remembered Saturday, "What's wrong with Xiao Liu? He's been sleeping all afternoon and still hasn't woken up!"
“Children this age are usually the sleepiest,” said Li. “Sister-in-law, let him sleep a little longer. He must be tired from going up the mountain to chop firewood these days.”
How could Mrs. Lu not know that Zhou Liu was so sensible that it broke her heart? She pouted and said, "But you can't just not eat, can you? Where are you going to find food if you get hungry in the middle of the night?"
Lu Qiqi smiled and said, "Auntie, we can just wake him up after we finish eating."
Mrs. Lu nodded without saying anything more, but she felt uneasy, as if she had overlooked something.
But she couldn't remember for a moment, and just as a thought began to emerge, it vanished without a trace.
Mrs. Lu shook her head, deciding to give up on the idea.
Lu Qiqi noticed that Lu Yao hadn't touched the bee pupa the entire time, and asked softly, "Are you scared?"
Lu Yao looked up at Lu Qiqi and whispered, "I'm scared."
Lu Qiqi coaxed, "These bee pupae are extremely high in protein; eating them will make your skin look much better."
All young girls love to be pretty, and Lu Qiqi thought that Lu Yao should be able to overcome her current psychological barriers. Once she took a bite, she would fall in love with the taste of bee pupae.
To Lu Qiqi's surprise, Lu Yao shook her head and refused, "No."
Lu Qiqi didn't force her. Anyway, there was still honey. She could use honey to make delicious food, which would also beautify her skin.
After the meal, Li cleaned up the dishes, and the Zhou brothers helped, quickly clearing the table.
Mrs. Lu was still thinking about not having eaten dinner on Saturday night, so she went to Saturday's room.
By the candlelight, I saw that Saturday was still sleeping in bed, curled up like a little piglet.
Looking at Zhou Liu's obedient appearance, Mrs. Lu's heart melted. She scooped him up, patted his face, and said, "Get up, you little sleepyhead."
Not only was he not woken up by Madam Lu on Saturday, but he also started talking in his sleep, "Mother, I'm in pain!"
There were only Mrs. Lu and Zhou Liu in the room, and it was very quiet. Zhou Liu's words reached Mrs. Lu's ears without any interruption.
Only then did Mrs. Lu notice the sweat on Saturday's forehead. She shook Saturday and said, "Little Liu, where does it hurt? Tell your aunt quickly!"
On Saturday, I was in so much pain that I didn't know where I was and couldn't hear what Ms. Lu was saying at all.
Mrs. Lu panicked and quickly picked up Saturday and rushed outside.
After a busy day, Lu Qiqi finished dinner and planned to take a hot bath in her space to clear her meridians before going to sleep.
She had just stood up from the chair in the main room when she saw Mrs. Lu rushing out of the room in a panic, carrying Zhou Liu in her arms.
When Madam Lu saw Lu Qiqi, she looked at her as if she had seen a lifeline and said, "Qiqi, quickly check on Xiao Liu. He keeps crying out in pain and won't wake up no matter how much we call him."
"Quickly put him back inside, I'll take his pulse," Lu Qiqi quickly instructed.
Upon hearing this, Mrs. Lu immediately carried Saturday back into the house.
Soon after Mrs. Lu rushed to the living room on Saturday to see Lu Qiqi for a medical checkup, the whole family knew about it.
