After vomiting blood, Madam Feng lay on the bed with a vacant look in her eyes, staring at the bed curtains, before slowly closing her eyes.
Feng Yu'er didn't have time to think about anything else and quickly checked on Old Madam Feng's condition, "Grandmother, how are you?"
"Wake up! Don't scare me!" Feng Yu'er cried, tears streaming down her face, as she grabbed Old Madam Feng's arm and shook her gently.
“Yu’er, don’t worry,” Lu Qiqi said. “The old lady has stagnant blood in her body, and it’s actually a good thing that she’s vomiting it out now.”
With tears welling up in her eyes, Feng Yu'er looked at Lu Qiqi and asked, "When will my grandmother wake up?"
Lu Qiqi said slowly, "Let me check on Madam Feng's health before making a decision."
Feng Yu'er quickly got up, almost tripping over the broken pieces of the bowl on the ground.
Granny Cuizhu hurriedly went to find a broom and rag to clean up the mess on the ground.
As Lu Qiqi sat down to take Madam Feng's pulse, her heart, which had been hanging in suspense, instantly settled down.
She took this risky medication in order to completely remove the blood stasis from Madam Feng's body.
Otherwise, Madam Feng would have let this lump of blood stagnate and die from it.
Seeing that Lu Qiqi had released her grandmother's wrist, Feng Yu'er gently put her grandmother's hand back under the quilt and carefully tucked the corner of the quilt in.
"How is it?" Feng Yu'er asked anxiously.
"She's alright for now. I'll prescribe another dose for the old lady, and we'll see how things go tomorrow," Lu Qiqi said, taking out a handkerchief and wiping a tear that hadn't yet dried from Feng Yu'er's face.
Lu Qiqi said, "Stop crying, or you'll go blind."
"Qiqi, I'm so scared," Feng Yu'er sobbed, "I'm so scared that Grandmother won't wake up."
Lu Qiqi said firmly, "No, I won't let that happen."
For some reason, Feng Yu'er felt relieved upon hearing Lu Qiqi's promise, as if Lu Qiqi would always keep her word.
She believed that her grandmother would definitely wake up too!
Granny Cuizhu cleaned up the broken porcelain bowl and bloodstains, and then had someone bring over food.
As afternoon approached, Lu Qiqi, who had been busy for most of the day, was starving.
As soon as the food was served, Lu Qiqi and Feng Yuer began to enjoy it immensely.
Feng Xin'er was tied up in a corner, watching her cousin and a woman of unknown origin sitting at the table eating delicious food.
Completely forgetting that they had also been hungry for most of the day, Feng Xin'er started making whimpering noises, hoping to attract Feng Yu'er's attention.
As soon as Feng Xin'er made a move, her personal maid and nanny followed suit, imitating her and making whimpering sounds together.
This quickly attracted the attention of Lu Qiqi and Feng Yuer.
After finishing the last bite of rice in her bowl and slowly wiping her mouth, Lu Qiqi finally looked up at the four people making noise in the corner.
"Yu'er, have you finished eating?" Lu Qiqi asked. "We still have important things to do."
Feng Yu'er put down her chopsticks and nodded, then walked straight to the four people.
Looking down at the four of them, Feng Yu'er, considering the events of the past few days, felt that her grandmother's serious illness was inextricably linked to the second branch of the family.
Now is the best time to investigate.
Lu Qiqi stepped forward and squatted down, removing the gag from Guo's dowry maid's mouth. Before Yinshuang could cry for help, she held a dagger to Yinshuang's neck.
Granny Silver Frost felt a glint of cold light and a chill on her neck. Her heart skipped a beat, and she froze, unable to move.
People are most vulnerable when they are most fearful, and that's when they are most likely to be forced to open their jaws.
Feng Yu'er said sternly, "Tell me, did you replace the charcoal in Grandmother's room?!"
Although Granny Yinshuang was afraid, she didn't believe that Feng Yuer and Lu Qiqi, those two young girls, would really dare to use a knife against her.
With his neck stiff and mouth tightly shut, he looked fearless of torture and determined not to let go.
“This dagger in my hand is as sharp as mud; it has killed many Tartars and seen much blood,” Lu Qiqi said. “I wonder if Granny would also like to taste its flavor?”
Lu Qiqi gently made a cut on Granny Yinshuang's neck, and a line of bright red blood seeped out, looking like a thin red line.
"Ah! No!" the nanny exclaimed.
Guo and Feng Xin'er were so frightened that their eyes widened, and they felt that Lu Qiqi was like a demon, a demon that would take lives.
As for Granny Yinshuang's daughter, she fainted when Lu Qiqi held a dagger to her neck.
Granny Silverfrost felt the pain and immediately cried out, "Don't kill me! I'll talk!"
Lu Qiqi moved the dagger a little further away from Granny Yinshuang, just enough to keep it from touching her skin.
Granny Yinshuang breathed a sigh of relief, her mind racing as she carefully considered what she could say.
"No one has replaced the charcoal in the old lady's room. However, in recent years, the charcoal from Luzhou Prefecture has been sold mixed with the good ones. There will always be half a basket of black charcoal in a basket of good charcoal."
"Young lady, there really is no one harboring malicious intentions! Don't be deceived by treacherous people!"
The villain that the old woman was referring to was a veiled reference to Lu Qiqi.
Everyone present was not stupid; no one could misunderstand what Granny Silverfrost was saying.
Lu Qiqi snorted coldly and said, "The Feng family bought two cartloads of silver frost charcoal, which I personally led people to burn. How could I not know its quality?!"
Despite all her calculations, Granny Yinshuang never expected that Lu Qiqi had once delivered charcoal to the Feng family, which now confirmed her guilt of switching the charcoal.
After all, if they had good charcoal, why would they use black charcoal for the old lady? If it wasn't intentional, who would dare to do such a thing!
Granny Yinshuang was sweating profusely, but she couldn't find any words to evade Feng Yu'er.
Not wanting to get entangled with a nanny any further, Lu Qiqi stuffed the strip of cloth back into Granny Yinshuang's mouth.
