Chapter 138 Rejection

When Lu Changping saw that Lu Dazhuang hadn't given a reply for a long time, she quickly knelt down again, clutching her stomach.

She really couldn't survive in the Liu family anymore; Liu Dali's mentally challenged younger brother would just watch her and grin foolishly every day.

He was drooling from time to time and talking nonsense, saying that she would be his wife in the future.

This made Lu Changping afraid to sleep soundly every night, fearing that one day that idiot would break down the door and do something bad to her.

Therefore, Lu Changping cried and grabbed Lu Dazhuang's trouser leg, pleading, "Father, if you don't save your daughter, I really won't be able to survive!"

"Please save me, I'll kowtow to you," Lu Changping pleaded desperately for help, immediately kowtowing.

Madam Lu stepped forward and shouted, "Your father isn't dead yet! What are you doing kowtowing and howling like a ghost here!"

Lu Changping used to be most afraid of her grandmother, Lu Shi, but now that she was on the verge of death, how could she still have the mind to be afraid of this and that?

Lu Changping slowly straightened up and said, "I was sold to the Liu family by you. If it weren't for me, you would have starved to death on the road to escape famine long ago, and you wouldn't be where you are today."

"I can't live in the Liu family anymore, and I want to go back to my parents' home. My grandmother says, 'Shouldn't I be allowed to?!'"

The Lu family was rendered speechless by Lu Changping's retort, but keeping the person was absolutely out of the question!

Madam Lu said, "You sharp-tongued, shameless hussy, no wonder your in-laws are so harsh on you. You should reflect on your mistakes, go back to your in-laws' house, admit your wrongdoing, and beg your parents-in-law for forgiveness."

When Jin heard Lu scolding Lu Changping like that, she felt resentful, but she didn't dare to argue in front of Lu Dazhuang. She called out softly, "His father."

Lu Dazhuang was startled awake by Jin's call and asked, "You just said the Liu family found you a laundry job. How much is it per day? Laundry jobs are usually paid by the day, right?"

Lu Changping was taken aback by Lu Dazhuang's sudden change of tone. She was helped up by Jin and honestly replied, "Thirty coins a day, paid daily."

Lu Dazhuang said, "How about this, you go home and tell your mother-in-law that she will take care of this work for you, and you can split the cost 50/50 from now on. That way you won't have to do laundry while you're heavily pregnant."

Upon hearing Lu Dazhuang's words, Lu Changping's eyes widened as if she wanted to compete with a bull's eyes.

Jin also realized that fifteen coins a day was hard work, but at least she could exchange it for some food, which was better than eating wild vegetables and soup made from tree roots every day.

Jin also comforted her, saying, "Aping, what your father said makes sense. This is the best way to achieve the best of both worlds."

“It’s too hard for you to work with such a big belly. Why don’t I do it for you?”

Lu Changping never expected that things would turn out this way, that her family would even try to pluck hairs from her body.

Lu Changping said, "My mother-in-law always collects the wages every day; I've never even seen it."

Lu Dazhuang and the Jin family's wishful thinking instantly sank to the bottom of the sea.

Lu Changhu said, "Father, Mother, let's keep our little sister here. I can always go up the mountain to chop more firewood to sell."

Madam Lu doted on her grandson, so even in the dead of winter, he had to go up the mountain to chop firewood to support a married woman and someone else's child.

Madam Lu said, "What nonsense are you talking about! It's so hard to chop firewood in this cold weather. If you have a married daughter to support, and you have no place to use your strength, then go and carry two buckets of water back."

After saying that, Lu Changhu was pushed out of the door by Lu Shi, who then slammed the door shut.

When Lu Changping heard Lu's words, her heart turned cold. She felt sorry for herself and angry that they had abandoned her.

Seeing no hope of staying at her parents' home, Lu Changping cried and shouted, "You sold me out, and now you want to turn me away? Does that mean my brother is a child of the Lu family, and I was just picked up off the street?!"

"You ate the food I earned by selling myself, and now you want to kill me? Aren't you afraid of shortening your own lifespans?"

Lu Dazhuang initially felt somewhat guilty, but upon hearing Lu Changping's outrageous curses, all the misfortunes of the past few days flooded back to him.

With a "smack," a slap landed on Lu Changping's face.

Lu Dazhuang glared and roared, "Unfilial daughter! Listen to what you just said!"

"Father, what are you doing!" Jin asked anxiously.

Madam Lu glared at Madam Jin unhappily and said, "She deserved to be beaten to death. How dare she curse her elders. She's a good-for-nothing who was born of a mother but not raised by one."

Lu's words had a double meaning; she not only insulted Lu Changping but also dragged Jin into the insult.

Since the old man died, Madam Lu's words have become increasingly sarcastic and unpleasant. Madam Jin could only be angry but dare not speak out. After all, Lu Dazhuang was a well-known filial son. If anyone dared to talk back to Madam Lu, she would not have an easy time either!

Lu Changping looked at the room full of people she once thought loved her. Covering her tear-streaked face, she suddenly burst into laughter, a manic, unrestrained laugh.

Lu Dazhuang frowned, wondering why Lu Changping was suddenly laughing. Could it be that he had driven her crazy?

This is terrible! They've gone mad! The Liu family has come knocking on their door, but they have no daughter left to compensate the Liu family.

Just as Lu Dazhuang was about to step forward to check on Lu Changping's condition, Lu Changping's eyes hardened, and she said, "From this day forward, I have nothing to do with you anymore. I, Lu Changping, swear to heaven that one day I will make you regret treating me this way!"

After saying that, Lu Changping held her stomach, opened the door, and walked out.

The thatched house was not soundproof; you could hear even a fart. Lu Changhu listened to everything that was happening inside from outside the door.

Seeing Lu Changping come out, he hurriedly stopped her and said, "Little sister, I..."

Before Lu Changhu could finish speaking, Lu Changping interrupted him, saying, "I hate you more than they do!"

"Why should all the good things in the house be saved for you!"

"Why am I the one who gets sold!"

"Why was I kicked out even after I begged them at their doorstep?!"

"We were born of the same parents, so why am I always the one who suffers injustice!"

Lu Changhu was forced to retreat step by step by Lu Changping's sharp gaze, and her questioning left him speechless. He could only watch as Lu Changping walked out of the courtyard with her neck stiff.

Lu Changping had nowhere to go after leaving Heping Village, so she could only obediently return to the Liu family home. She hadn't gone to work or do laundry today, probably because her in-laws were already worried sick by now.

She won't get away with this, so she might as well pretend to be in trouble and make her in-laws worry about the baby in her belly, thus temporarily extinguishing their anger.

As Lu Changping walked along the narrow path, she felt a pang of envy for the Lu Qiqi and Lu Yao sisters.

I envy them for having been pampered by their parents when they were young, and now they are living a good life with Lu Dahai.

Unlike her, who was sold by her parents for food, and when she couldn't make ends meet and begged for shelter, she was kicked out of the house.

As she thought about it, Lu Changping began to feel resentful. Why was everyone else doing better than her? Even Lu Qiqi and Lu Yao were doing better than her.

These two sisters, who were once bullied by her at will, are now living a life where they have no worries about food and drink.

If I had known this would happen, I should have sold those two sisters off long ago!

That would allow them to live a carefree life now!
