Chapter 266 Using Grass Ash as Fertilizer

Zhao Xiaodong followed Lu Qiqi out of Uncle Niu's courtyard.

Aunt Niu Er held Niu Niu in her arms, watching the two of them with a wary expression.

Lu Qiqi's eyes met those of Aunt Niu Er briefly, and she noticed that Aunt Niu Er's gaze was darting away, as if she were afraid.

His expression clearly shows that he knows what Uncle Niu Er has done!

Perhaps it was a decision made after the elderly couple discussed it.

However, none of this concerns her. The fact remains that Uncle Niu Er attempted murder. Whether to hand him over to the authorities or settle the matter privately depends on how Niu Dahang, as the victim and concurrently the village head, decides to proceed.

"They're out, they're out."

When the villagers saw Lu Qiqi come out, they all wanted to find out the truth from her.

Lu Qiqi walked ahead with a determined look in her eyes, which made them instinctively make way for her. They couldn't bring themselves to ask any questions and could only watch helplessly as the two walked away one after the other.

After walking a distance, Zhao Xiaodong asked, "Village Chief, if Village Chief Niu doesn't hand Uncle Niu over to the authorities, then won't we have wasted our time?"

If the arsonist is not brought to justice, it is inevitable that others will follow suit and take such actions to retaliate against others.

Lu Qiqi said calmly, "No, even if Village Chief Niu is thinking of our past relationship, he wouldn't do that, otherwise he would have difficulty gaining the support of the people in the future. Besides, it wasn't just his family that was burned down, but also the houses of Niu Tiedan and his brother."

As for whether to hand him over to the authorities or make Uncle Niu Er pay compensation, that depends on what Niu Dahang chooses.

The former serves as a warning to others, while the latter can leave Uncle Niu Er completely injured.

As the head of the township, she cannot make decisions at all times; as the village chief, she should handle these matters herself.

Two days later, Lu Qiqi learned of Uncle Niu's fate.

Considering Niu Niu's young age, Uncle Niu, as the sole breadwinner of the family, was not sent to the authorities. Instead, he wrote a confession in the presence of the villagers and divided two plots of land as compensation to Niu Tiedan and his brother, as well as Niu Dahang's family.

If it is discovered that Uncle Niu's family has any more evil intentions, they should be handed over to the authorities immediately, and all past and present debts should be settled together.

When Lu Qiqi heard this news, she was somewhat surprised that Niu Dahang did not directly hand the person over to the authorities.

But upon reflection, it made sense, so she moved on from the matter.

After the arson incident in Tianping Village was dealt with, the weed-covered land was also turned over.

Lu Qiqi then instructed Niu Xiaozhou to collect all the weeds, pile them into a small mound, and burn them, using the ashes as fertilizer.

Tianping Village has always grown grains. After the rice is cut from the field, only the roots about an inch high remain. They have never grown vegetables before, and this is the first time they have heard of using grass ash as fertilizer. In the past, they used excrement and urine after defecating as fertilizer.

Tianping Village has little to offer except for its population and abundant weeds.

Immediately, the villagers went to the ground, collected the weeds, and burned them into ash to use as base fertilizer for the vegetables that were about to be planted.

Two days ago, Lu Qiqi took all the seeds out of her spatial storage and brought them to Tianping Village to give to Niu Dahang.

He also instructed Niu Dahang to organize the villagers and have Li Changlong teach them how to plant vegetables, how to germinate them, and how to sow seedlings.

Li Changlong has been extremely busy lately. He handed over Tianlong Village to Zhou Yi, and Tianping Village is just starting out, which is the most demanding time.

However, he always had a smile on his face, happy that he could help Lu Qiqi.

That day, Lu Qiqi strolled to Tianping Village, where Niu Dahang and his son took her to see the fruits of the villagers' labor.

Lu Qiqi gave them all the same seeds and seedlings, which were then distributed to the villagers to plant.

This way, Li Changlong can save a lot of travel time, and the villagers can get the seedlings faster and plant them as soon as possible.

"This is it."

Niu Xiaozhou pointed to a piece of land in front of him.

Lu Qiqi looked at the vegetable seedlings that Niu Xiaozhou was pointing to.

The ground was covered with green vegetable seedlings, and the tender yellow shoots raised their heads, looking quite adorable.

I couldn't help but praise, "They're growing very well."

Niu Dahang couldn't help but exclaim, "I never expected that our land could grow such good things!"

For generations, the villagers of Tianping have grown grains, and at most, they would grow some vegetables in the backyard of their own homes. No one in their family had ever thought of growing vegetables in the fields.

Lu Qiqi walked around the field of Yangcaiyang in Tianping Village until her calves ached.

Lu Qiqi remembered the potatoes that had already sprouted and asked, "Have the potatoes been planted yet?"

Niu Xiaozhou replied with a smile, "They've been planted. Brother Changlong told the villagers to cut them into pieces and plant them, and they were all planted yesterday."

Then he added, "It's the sweet potato. Brother Changlong said that once the green vines grow, we'll use wood ash as base fertilizer, then cut off the green vines and plant them."

"Will this sweet potato even grow like this?"

Lu Qiqi chuckled, "Vegetable seeds are tiny, but they can still grow into vegetables, so why can't they grow into sweet potatoes?"

Niu Xiaozhou scratched his head and laughed, "I was probably too happy to think of something so simple."

The three walked to a patch of ground, and Lu Qiqi saw Li Changlong bending down to take something from a wooden basin in front of him.

"Second Brother."

There was a bowl of yams in front of Li Changlong. When he heard someone call him, he got up and looked up.

Seeing that it was Lu Qiqi, he smiled and said, "You're here."

Lu Qiqi responded to him. She saw that he was holding a section of yam, about the length of a finger. Both ends of the yam were smeared with wood ash. It seemed that he was teaching the villagers how to plant yams.

Li Changlong turned to the villagers and continued, "These yams are easy to grow and don't need much water. We just need to plant this section of yam and water it a few times a month."

As he spoke, Li Changlong squatted down, and a long and deep trench appeared before Niu Dahang and his son.
