At midnight, chickens flew and dogs barked in Tianxin Village, and shouts echoed everywhere.
Zhao Zhiwei entrusted Ru Mei to Lu Qiqi and joined the search for the Yuan family.
Ru Mei had worked all day and then accompanied Lu Qiqi in the search for people until midnight, leaving her completely exhausted.
After Lu Qiqi's repeated persuasion, he stayed overnight in Lu Qiqi's room.
Seeing that Ru Mei had fallen asleep, Lu Qiqi lit a calming incense stick, then closed the courtyard door and went out.
Outside, the sound of villagers calling for Yuan could be heard from afar.
Every now and then, the sounds of dogs barking and chickens crowing could be heard.
Lu Qiqi walked towards the sound of shouting, and the farther she got from the courtyard, the louder the villagers' shouts for Yuan Shi became.
Before long, Lu Qiqi saw Zhao Xiaodong standing in the darkness, searching for someone.
She walked over to Zhao Xiaodong and asked, "How is it?"
Upon seeing that it was Lu Qiqi, Zhao Xiaodong remained silent for a moment, then shook his head. "No."
Lu Qiqi didn't see Li Changlong and the others, so she guessed that they must have gone to look for people elsewhere.
She asked, "Did you go to Zhao Zhiwei's house to look for him?"
Zhao Xiaodong said, "We've sent people over several times, but they still haven't returned."
Lu Qiqi said, "It seems that Yuan is not in the village. She couldn't have missed such a commotion. Let the villagers go back, and we'll search the area around the village again tomorrow."
Zhao Xiaodong also understood that continuing the search like this would not yield any results.
The villagers practically turned the entire village upside down; they could even tell the male and female of chickens and ducks, but they still couldn't find Yuan Shi.
The villagers gradually returned home, and Tianxin Village fell silent; even the barking of dogs disappeared.
When Lu Qiqi returned to the room, Ru Mei was still asleep. Perhaps she had something on her mind, because her brows were furrowed and she didn't seem to be sleeping very soundly.
Lu Qiqi sat on the edge of the bed, the candlelight dim, and she quietly watched the flickering flame.
Recalling what Ru Mei had told her, she sorted out the signs of Yuan's disappearance.
According to Ru Mei, she had not seen Yuan Shi for three days.
Yuan left home as soon as it was light, and when she and Zhao Zhiwei returned home in the evening, they found no one there and went to bed early.
Ru Mei also said that since she married Zhao Zhiwei, Yuan Shi had never cooked a meal. But for some reason, Yuan Shi had been cooking dinner every night for the past few days.
She thought her mother-in-law was being considerate, thinking that she had worked hard at the paper mill and would be happy to have a hot meal when she got home.
Unexpectedly, after only a few days of this, Madam Yuan disappeared.
Speaking of this, Ru Mei's tears flowed uncontrollably, and she sobbed. Lu Qiqi didn't press her for details, so she could only persuade her to rest.
We'll ask Zhao Zhiwei again when we have the chance to find out about the situation before Yuan went missing.
As dawn broke, Li Changlong and Zhou Yicai returned to their room.
I got up early Wednesday morning to make breakfast for everyone.
Yesterday, Lu Qiqi didn't let him go out to look for someone, which she thought was an underestimation of him. Now, she's angrily adding firewood to the stove.
Lu Qiqi only took a short nap in the latter half of the night. When it was dawn, she got up to wash and went into the kitchen.
As soon as she entered the kitchen, she heard Zhou San grumbling and complaining.
“I’m already thirteen years old, and I’ll be fourteen soon, but Sister Lu still treats me like a little kid.”
"Where is it small?"
When Lu Qiqi heard that Wednesday was still indignant about what happened last night, she couldn't help but find it amusing.
She said, "You're not small in any way; you're a man now."
The paper mill still needs you to ship the goods today. If you stayed up all night searching for someone, without sleeping a wink.
There was a mistake in today's shipment, what should I do?
On Wednesday, Lu Qiqi's words left him speechless, but then he thought that the paper mill was not something that anyone could easily take over, while anyone could search for someone.
He was happy again in an instant; he could do things for Lu Qiqi that others couldn't.
That alone would make him happy for a long time.
Lu Qiqi couldn't understand the minds of kids these days. One second they were full of resentment, and the next they were happily adding firewood to the fire.
But as long as we don't nag about her, it's always a good thing.
On Wednesday, she worked quickly and soon cooked a pot of porridge, and then steamed the flatbread.
Lu Qiqi came out of the kitchen, and Rumei also came out of the room.
Ru Mei rubbed her eyes, feeling a little embarrassed that she had actually slept in the village head's bed last night.
She called out softly, "Village Head."
Seeing that she was awake, Lu Qiqi quickly said, "If you're awake, wash your face quickly, have some food, and then we'll go to your house."
As Mei recalled what happened last night, judging from Lu Qiqi's tone, she must not have been able to find Yuan Shi.
So she quickly went to the kitchen to get some water, washed up briefly, and then went to the table.
Lu Qiqi handed her the flatbread, and Zhou San also ladled her a bowl of white porridge.
The three of them sat down and quietly finished their breakfast.
After finishing her meal, Ru Mei, worried about Zhao Zhiwei, went home first.
Lu Qiqi, along with Wangcai and the big yellow dog that Doctor Luo often fed, set off for Zhao Zhiwei's house to check on the situation.
When we arrived at Zhao Zhiwei's house, we saw that the gate was wide open.
Lu Qiqi walked straight in, with Wangcai and Dahuang following behind her.
As soon as Lu Qiqi entered the house, she saw Zhao Zhiwei sitting dejectedly in the main room.
Beside him was a middle-aged man, who was presumably Zhao's father.
Ru Mei was nowhere to be seen in the main room, but the sound of firewood being broken could be heard; she must have gone to cook for the father and son.
As soon as Lu Qiqi stepped into the house with her left foot, Zhao Zhiwei was startled awake by the noise and turned his head sharply to look outside.
When he saw who it was, his disappointment was palpable.
