Chapter 8 Wild Game, Puppies

Lu Qiqi followed the sound to the place where the sharp cry came from, which was the spot where she had set the trap.

A pheasant was shot by a sharp bamboo arrow. It screamed in pain, flapped its wings a few times, and finally lay down on the ground, too weak to move.

When Lu Qiqi picked it up, it was still alive, its chest rising and falling rhythmically, but it had no energy to move anymore, so it hung straight down.

She weighed the pheasant in her hand and estimated it to be about three or four pounds.

This is quite a plump chicken; we're in for a treat tonight!

Lu Qiqi put away the tools for making the traps and placed them in her spatial storage, saving them for later use.

Then he put the pheasant into his basket, humming a little tune, and walked back.

Lu Qiqi walked to the resting place. A bright moon had already hung in the sky, and countless stars were scattered across the entire firmament.

As soon as Lu Qiqi returned, her family surrounded her.

Lu was the first to speak, "If you can't find water, come back sooner. No one will blame you. You've been gone for so long, and everyone has to go looking for you."

Lu Qiqi smiled at Madam Lu and said, "I understand, Auntie."

Mrs. Lu pursed her lips somewhat uncomfortably, but ultimately said nothing more.

Lu Qiqi unloaded the bamboo basket and lifted the thin cloth to show them, "Look what I found!"

"pheasant!"

Mrs. Lu was so shocked that her jaw almost dropped, but luckily she knew to keep her voice down so that no one else could hear.

Lu Dahai: "Seventh Girl, did you hunt in the woods?"

Lu Qiqi nodded, and she pushed aside the pheasant to reveal the wild eggs underneath. "I set a trap, and there are still wild eggs. Let Second Brother go somewhere far away to pluck the feathers, and we'll have a feast today."

Lu Dahai was pleased to see how capable Lu Qiqi was.

But she was incredibly bold, daring to venture into the dense forest alone. Lu Dahai recalled the roar he had heard in the mountains earlier and felt a chill of fear. If something had really happened, how would he explain it to his deceased second brother?

Lu Dahai instructed Lu Qiqi, "When you go anywhere in the future, it's best to have your second brother accompany you."

"Understood, Third Uncle."

That evening, the whole family ate meat.

Fortunately, a pile of firewood was burned not far from where Lu Da made his selection.

It was hot, and no one wanted to get close to the fire.

With no one to disturb them, Lu Qiqi and the others enjoyed their meal of meat very much.

Pheasants are already delicious, and Lu Qiqi cooked them with spiritual spring water, so everyone practically ate the bones too.

After the meal, Mrs. Lu volunteered to clean up the dishes, and Lu Qiqi also helped.

As she finished packing, Madam Lu said awkwardly, "Seventh girl, you are really capable. You are like a lucky star. Since you came, we not only have rice to eat, but now we can even eat meat."

Lu Qiqi really didn't expect the Lu family to praise her. For a moment, she didn't know what to say and could only give an awkward laugh.

After a long day of travel and half a day of work, Lu Qiqi ate and drank her fill and then went to sleep with Lu Yao in her arms.

Lu Yao ate meat today and talked happily for a long time.

"Sister, I think fleeing the famine is better than staying at home."

Lu Qiqi chuckled and pinched her little cheek, "Using the sky as a blanket and the earth as a mat, you still think it's better than being at home?"

Lu Yao turned around to face Lu Qiqi and said without hesitation, "Okay, if we flee famine, we'll have rice and meat to eat, and we won't be beaten or scolded."

Lu Qiqi felt a sudden pang of pain in her heart, remembering the days the original owner of this body and Lu Yao had shared. She hugged Lu Yao tightly, saying, "Don't be afraid, we'll never have to live like that again."

They were only temporarily away from that heartless family. Given the chance in the future, she would definitely not let Lu Changping, who had killed the original owner of this body, get away with it.

In the middle of the night, Lu Qiqi heard rustling sounds.

She opened her eyes and got up, but found nothing unusual.

The pheasant soup was so sweet that evening that she couldn't help but drink two more bowls, which inevitably made her need to urinate.

Lu Qiqi got up and walked into the woods to relieve herself.

On the way back, I heard rustling sounds again.

She suppressed her curiosity; it was pitch black, and she didn't dare linger in the woods, for who knew what might be there.

But before she could take more than a few steps, Lu Qiqi heard her grandmother's dog bark twice.

She was completely unable to move and followed the sound to find the puppy.

After walking about ten steps, I found the puppy.

Perhaps due to the effects of the spiritual spring, Lu Qiqi discovered that her night vision was getting better and better.

Under the moonlight, a large dog could be seen lying next to the puppy.

However, the big dog was already dead, and because of the hot weather, it still smelled a little bad.

Lu Qiqi then understood; it turned out that the child had died during childbirth.

The little guy was born without ever getting a drop of milk before losing his mother; it's truly pitiful.

Lu Qiqi dug a hole and buried the big dog, admiring its greatness at the same time, "I will treat it well from now on."

Then, she picked up the little one, fed him a sip of spiritual spring water, and said, "From now on, you will stay with me."

The little guy drank the spring water as if he had drunk some kind of super tonic, and he became energetic and lively, constantly snuggling into her arms.

Lu Qiqi patted its little head, "Behave yourself."

The little guy seemed to understand human nature; he whimpered twice and then stopped making a fuss.

Seeing how well-behaved it was, Lu Qiqi smiled and put the little guy in the bamboo basket when she got back.

Early in the morning, my third aunt boiled the wild eggs, eight in total, one for each person.

Lu Qiqi took the puppy out of the bamboo basket and showed it to Lu Yao and Li Xibao.

Li Xibao was overjoyed, watching the puppy jump and clap its hands, barking at it every now and then.

Lu Yao also liked it very much and couldn't put the gray-black furry little guy down. "Sister, have you named it yet?"

Lu Qiqi found it in the middle of the night last night without thinking about it. But after Lu Yao reminded her, she decided to give it a proper name. "Let's call it Wangcai. It's such a rich and auspicious name."
