It was raining outside, which made people sleepy. Lu Qiqi wrapped herself in her thin blanket and fell asleep early.
In the middle of the night, Lu Qiqi felt a chill enveloping her, and after shivering, she woke up.
Lu Qiqi looked out at the night through the paper-covered wooden window, but it was pitch black and she couldn't see anything.
There was no sound outside; the rain had stopped.
Lu Qiqi got up, groped for the low cabinet beside the bed, found the tinderbox, blew it out, and lit the candle.
Lu Qiqi didn't expect that the temperature would drop so suddenly before dawn, waking her up from the cold.
Lu Qiqi drank a lot of spiritual spring water, so her senses were very strong and her resistance was also good. Even she was woken up by the cold, so she guessed that Lu Yao and the others would definitely not be able to stand it either.
Thinking of this, Lu Qiqi quickly put on a coat, took a candle for light, and went to open the door to Lu Yao and Xibao's room.
Lu Yao's door wasn't latched, and Lu Qiqi pushed it open and stepped inside.
Lu Qiqi walked to the bedside and shone the candle onto the bed. She saw Lu Yao and Xi Bao huddled together under the thin blanket, shivering.
"Ayao, Xibao, wake up!" Lu Qiqi shook Lu Yao, who was sleeping outside.
Lu Yao was shaken awake by Lu Qiqi. She opened her eyes groggily, saw Lu Qiqi, and asked, "Sister, what's wrong?"
"It's suddenly gotten colder. I'll go get you a thick blanket. You and Xibao can drink some hot water before you go to sleep," Lu Qiqi said softly.
"Okay." Lu Yao nodded blankly, as if she hadn't woken up yet.
Lu Qiqi rummaged through the closet and took out a thick quilt, placing it on Lu Yao's bed. Lu Yao covered herself with the quilt, then hugged Xibao and continued to sleep.
After leaving Lu Yao's room, Lu Qiqi knocked on the doors of the other rooms one after another, afraid that everyone would be too cold to think about adding blankets.
Lu Qiqi hadn't forgotten that when she woke Lu Yao up earlier, Lu Yao's lips had turned a little purple from the cold.
Lu Qiqi made quite a commotion and quickly woke Lu Dahai up.
Lu Dahai opened the door, and Lu Qiqi hurriedly said, "Third Uncle, quickly wake everyone up and cover them with thick blankets. I just went to A Yao's room, and they were both almost frozen to death."
Lu Dahai was also woken up by Lu Qiqi, and only then did he feel the cold air rising from the ground and rushing straight to his head, making him feel a bit of a headache.
Lu Dahai went back, put on a coat, woke up Li Shi, and together they went to knock on the door and call for help.
Everyone in the room was woken up and covered with thick blankets. Lu Qiqi and Li Shi boiled a pot of ginger water in the kitchen and made sure everyone drank it before going back to their rooms to sleep.
Lu Qiqi was busy until midnight last night, so she got up a little late this morning. She took out the thick clothes that Zeng had made for her from the wardrobe and put them on.
She sighed inwardly, 'Luckily, she had prepared warm clothes beforehand, otherwise I would have been curled up in bed this morning, too afraid to get up.'
"But thanks to the quilts that Old Madam Hao brought, otherwise they would have frozen to death last night."
Lu Qiqi suddenly thought of the mother tiger and her cub in the mountains. She wondered how the big tiger and the two cubs fared in the cold rain last night, and whether they had found a cave to stay in.
Lu Qiqi left her room and went to the bathroom to wash up. The stream water, which had been running overnight, was a bit cold to the touch. Lu Qiqi endured the icy water and quickly washed up.
The cold water jolted Lu Qiqi awake, and she rubbed her frozen hands before going to the main room.
As soon as Lu Qiqi entered the main room, she saw a group of people gathered around the table, eating flatbread.
As soon as Lu Qiqi sat down, Li Shi, with red eyes and a sob in her throat, said to Lu Qiqi, "Qiqi, quickly take a look at your third uncle. He had a terrible headache last night."
"Hey! Let her eat breakfast first!" Lu Dahai complained.
Li could no longer suppress her sobs and said, "You complained of a headache last night, and because you were worried that Seventh Sister would get tired after being up all night, you wouldn't let me go to see her."
"I'm in so much pain now that I can't even swallow a pancake, and they won't let me say anything."
After listening to what Li said, Lu Qiqi noticed that Lu Dahai had put his hat back on. She said, "Headache is not something to be taken lightly. Third Uncle, you shouldn't blame Third Aunt. She was just worried and confused."
"Besides, I'm your niece. I'm the only one here who can treat your headaches. If you don't ask me, who else can you ask, Auntie?"
"If you feel unwell in the future, tell me immediately. Don't let a minor illness turn into a major one."
"If a disease that could be cured with one dose of medicine is allowed to develop into a serious illness, that would be causing me real trouble."
Li took the handkerchief Lu Yao handed her and gently wiped away her tears. Lu Dahai felt bad seeing his wife like this, and opened his mouth but didn't say anything.
"Third Uncle, let me take your pulse," Lu Qiqi said.
Lu Dahai was in so much pain that he couldn't bear it, otherwise he wouldn't have lost his temper with Li Shi. After being scolded by Lu Qiqi, he reached out to take Lu Qiqi's pulse.
After taking Lu Dahai's pulse, Lu Qiqi wrote down a prescription and handed it to Li Changlong, asking him to go to Qingshui Town to get the medicinal herbs.
After Lu Qiqi finished writing, she said, "Third Uncle, your headache is caused by an external injury. This problem may stay with you for a long time in the future."
Upon hearing that Lu Dahai's headaches would recur, Li felt heartbroken and tears began to fall again.
Li Changlong folded the prescription and put it in his sleeve, then asked, "Is there any way to solve this once and for all?"
Lu Qiqi shook her head. No matter how advanced modern technology is, it cannot completely cure headaches caused by external injuries. Only when the pain is unbearable will she take some painkillers to relieve it.
Lu Qiqi said, "I'll give Uncle Three acupuncture later to relieve his pain."
"Uncle, you should pay more attention to keeping your head warm in the future. Your headache this time was caused by cold entering your body."
"Afterwards, I'll make some medicinal wine, and you can drink a little every day. This will also be good for your health."
