Chapter 80 Unexpected Incident: "Felix".
East seemed oblivious to the glances passing over him, to the subtle tension between the man and the demon. He listened silently and attentively, hoping to get by peacefully. But from the moment he was placed in this position today, it was destined that things wouldn't be so easy for him.
After Derek's speech, it was time for open discussion, a time for everyone to set aside their status and prejudices, and freely express their opinions, discussing cooperation, alliances, and contributing manpower and resources...
Quiet discussions began to break out in the hall as Easter dealt with the unpredictable and capricious demon.
"You rushed all this way for him, did you even find him? You probably don't even know which way his door opens," Asang said sarcastically. "In my opinion, you two should have broken up a long time ago."
East rubbed his temples. "Your Excellency, don't forget, you said you were enemies with my ancestors." This concern was quite hard to resist.
Asang nearly slammed his fist on the table. "How can that be the same?" His deep, ruby-like eyes glared at Ister, the fierce light within them like a bone-scraping knife, as if he wanted to chop him to pieces. "If it weren't for his family back then..." He stopped mid-sentence, his tense body slumping down. "A thousand years have passed, what does this have to do with a child like you?" His empty eyes stared ahead, weathered and fragile, devoid of any trace of his former arrogance.
East didn't know what to say. He only had a vague understanding of the past. There were so few records about that period of history that it was as if someone had deliberately erased it. He didn't even know what happened. How could anyone begin to talk about it?
"I wonder if King Felix would be willing to lend a hand in this crisis?" The serious tone was more of a command than a question.
East looked up and met the gaze of the person who had come down from the stage; it was Derek.
"Tch, look at your own face. A thousand years ago, you wouldn't even be worthy of carrying someone's shoes."
While East was still thinking about how to reply, Asan spoke first.
Derek's calm, cold gaze fell on Asan. "This gentleman should know the most basic etiquette of a nobleman."
Assange's mocking gaze swept over Derek from head to toe, before he gave a wicked smile. "I'm quite curious, how did you dare to let him leave 'Felix's' territory?"
East froze, something seemed a little off.
“Sir, I am speaking to King Felix, not you. I understand there is a cultural barrier between demons and humans, but your repeated rudeness is truly appalling.” Derek’s tone remained unchanged, maintaining his good manners. Even when he was being sarcastic, his words were so sharp that no one could find fault with them.
East was quite happy to be a bystander, but unfortunately he was already on the stage, and no one would want him off the stage until the play was over.
Ister said, "Your Highness, I know why you've come, but I'm afraid I'm not up to the task."
Asan looked surprised. He hadn't expected Ister to speak at this crucial moment. He then watched with great interest. A thousand years was far too long, and besides, he knew clearly that Patrick hadn't left any biological children before his death. The blood connection between this "Felix" and Patrick was probably so thin as to be almost nonexistent. In fact, the only thing they shared was the same surname. Why should he make such a fuss over a surname?
The person is already dead, so he should have let go of these grudges long ago. After all, what's the point of seeking revenge or settling scores when the person involved is already dead?
Asan lost interest in watching the drama unfold and wondered if he should find a place to continue sleeping. Even if the entire continent were destroyed, it wouldn't matter to him.
With a loud "bang!", Asan instinctively looked over and saw East fall to the ground in a disheveled state, the table in front of him overturned, which was the source of the loud noise.
Matsushita Yuki stood in front of East, keeping a wary eye on Derek, her short arm already gripping her magic wand, ready to attack at any moment.
Asan's eyes sharpened. He had been momentarily distracted, but he couldn't possibly have missed something that happened so close by. After Easter finished speaking, he didn't hear Derek's words, but instead saw Easter fall to the ground in a sorry state. Yet, he hadn't noticed anything. He didn't believe that Derek had done anything underhanded that he couldn't detect. This was something worth pondering and considering.
Two more little fire people appeared. Unlike roasted sweet potatoes and Yunmu, the situation was still unclear, and Song Shangxue did not dare to call too many people over.
Yun Mu immediately drew a greatsword that was almost as tall as her.
Instead of rushing to East, Roasted Sweet Potato checked on him anxiously, saying, "King, King..."
In that brief moment, Easter was drenched in sweat, as if he had been pulled from the water, his face pale and ashen.
Unlike roasting sweet potatoes, I was completely at a loss and couldn't think of anything. I hurriedly sent a message to Suibianla.
Suibian arrived quickly, and upon seeing Ister's condition, without paying attention to the surroundings, she gripped her magic wand and began casting spells.
East felt as if every bone in his body was being slowly and meticulously crushed, each one being crushed with obsessive precision. The pain was so intense that he couldn't even scream.
"How is it?" Matsushita Yuki asked, her voice tense. She knew better than anyone that if a fight broke out, they had no chance of winning.
They cast healing spells one after another, emptying the mana bar, but there was no improvement even after half a day.
His silence has already provided the answer.
Matsugami Yuki turned to Asan, pinning her hopes on a stranger was truly a last resort, but this situation was too difficult to break unless she disregarded everything. Seeing Asan's expression, Matsugami Yuki's gaze froze.
Asan stared intently at the disheveled and collapsed East, his expression a mix of fear, surprise, bewilderment, and helplessness, a mixture of joy and sorrow, a blend of laughter and tears, too many emotions to discern.
He stared intently, as if afraid that if he blinked even once, East on the ground would vanish, as if he were a fragile phantom.
“Felix,” he murmured, his ruby-red eyes churning with a sea of blood, a deep crimson.
Asan grinned, revealing a smile that seemed to tear his lips apart. In the meantime, he had confirmed the truth of the matter, and he really wanted to blow up the venue to celebrate today's happy occasion. "Derek, how old are you? Still arguing with a child." He said with a laugh. The happy occasion was so great that even when he was facing someone he didn't like, his smile had a bit more sincerity.
"Don't worry, he's fine. Don't be nervous, he'll wake up soon." His attitude towards the player was even more different; he was so gentle it was like he was a completely different person.
The players didn't feel particularly honored or happy; they just felt a chill run down their spines.
This farce drew the attention of the entire venue, and everyone awaited the outcome.
Derek swept past East on the ground, glanced at the few small firemen, and finally stopped on Asan. "Mr. Ilor, do you believe me if I say I didn't do anything?"
“Believe me,” Asang stood up, “you don’t have that ability.” He said lightly.
He scrutinized East through the little fireman, trying to find even the slightest resemblance to him.
East opened his eyes abruptly, a splash of red against the vast expanse of white snow.
Asan laughed heartily, his composure completely gone, his laughter sounding like crying. "'Felix,' I knew it..." He wouldn't be completely devoid of life.
When East regained consciousness, he found that the situation had changed too quickly and was completely incomprehensible. The lingering pain still lingered in his body, leaving him no time to think. Enduring the pain had consumed most of his mental energy.
Asan's laughter came and went suddenly. "Derek, this is not how you treat a guest."
“There are guest rooms available. We can discuss this in more detail later.” Derek showed no emotion as he instructed a waiter to take the players and East to the guest rooms, then turned to deal with the aftermath of the commotion.
He glanced discreetly at Easter as he walked away, leaving wet footprints on the ground, showing that he was still in pain and uncomfortable. Derek had only one thought in his mind: As expected of Felix.
East lowered his eyelashes and followed the servants slowly. Four players surrounded him, their eyes filled with concern and worry. Asan swayed with a leisurely gait, and it was unclear what he was planning to do next.
Upon entering the lounge, Easter slumped helplessly onto the sofa, his flesh and bones aching from an indescribable pain, every part of him throbbing with pain.
"Baby," Yunmu cried out, on the verge of tears.
East's vision was blurry, and sweat streamed into his eyes, making them sting and uncomfortable.
Matsushita Yuki took out a handkerchief and gently wiped the sweat from Ister's face. "Don't speak yet, take a break."
Assan walked up to Ister, and the players became wary. "You..." Before they could finish speaking, they were so shocked that they couldn't even find their tongues.
Asan knelt at Ister's feet, hesitated for a moment, then knelt completely, both knees on the ground. He reached out to take Ister's hand, but only touched his fingertips. He exhaled and spoke in an awkward tone, his words clumsy, "Your Majesty, please forgive my previous disrespect. From this moment on, I, Asan Belial, am willing to..."
Ignoring his own pain, Easter panicked and lunged forward to cover Asan's mouth. "Don't say it!"
With my ears ringing and eyes blurry, I couldn't possibly notice what Asang was doing. I finally calmed down a bit, and I was almost scared half to death.
Assan reacted quickly and helped Ister up. "Your Majesty, this is the fastest way to help you regain your strength."
“No need, it’s not that serious yet,” Easter refused.
Asan helped East sit back on the sofa, staring intently at him. "Your Majesty..."
East blocked Asan's face. "Your Excellency, don't look for other 'people' in me. I am not Him, I will not be Him, and I can never become Him. You don't need to have any unrealistic fantasies."
Asan remained silent, bewildered and helpless, like a child who had never grown up.
East took the water that the roasted sweet potato poured. The warm water flowed down his throat, and it seemed to soothe the pain. He suppressed a long sigh and exhaled. Oh no, this is really terrible, everything is so terrible.
"Sir, if there's nothing else, could you please leave?" Easter's words were utterly inhumane; what else could he possibly do? Steal "people's" faith, give them unrealistic fantasies, and pretend to know nothing while deceiving "people"? His character wasn't that despicable.
Asan rubbed his face, but didn't follow Esther's lead. He sat down on the sofa next to Esther and said, "Let me calm down. I don't consider you 'He'. I've always known that 'He' won't come back."
The room fell silent, save for the steady sound of Easter drinking water. The players, infected by the atmosphere, moved with utmost care.
"Your Majesty, 'His' era is now ten thousand years past. The Day of Divine Silence and the Era of Divine Fall are often confused because of the distance between them. But in fact, it was only about three or four hundred years after the Day of Divine Silence that the Era of Divine Fall began. And the Era of Divine Fall is the longest, most chaotic and ignorant era in human history. It is an era that has buried countless secrets, do you know that?"
His tone, which had been slowly recounting history, turned intriguing, and he reverted to his former arrogant and carefree demon self. "The name of the new era should have been chosen by Patrick, but unfortunately, he was just one step away. One step away is an abyss. So, this era can only be vaguely called the Era of the Hidden Gods, still entangled with the gods."
"He and I were once like-minded friends, after all, we had common goals. You should know that a friend's friend is not necessarily a friend, but an enemy's enemy can definitely cooperate. But he just asked for trouble, and the great situation was ruined in an instant."
He turned his gaze to East, this time not looking through East at anyone else. "You're unlike anyone else, unlike 'Felix,' unlike Patrick, but for a moment, just one moment," he closed his eyes, "I wanted to sink into it," he chuckled softly, "just to deceive myself," his voice trembling, no matter how hard he tried to hide it, he couldn't hide it, "I've lived for a very, very long time, sleeping and waking, waking and sleeping. I once thought there was a glimmer of hope, I once thought I could truly die, but I found that it was all my delusion. How can I not hate it?"
East listened quietly, the lingering pain difficult to subside, but after a while, he got used to it.
“I’m not part of the reason, so I can’t give any answers,” he said calmly. “I just want to say that when a person dies, the light goes out, and you should have a new life.”
"We can't destroy it, we can't get through it," Asang said coldly. "We've talked enough today. If we go any deeper, some 'people' will get restless. Since you don't want to agree, you'd better watch yourself and not run around. Your body can only handle one or two times. After three or four times, you might not even know how you died." Asang left without saying anything else.
"Awkwardly cute."
Easter was curious who had spoken his mind. He looked up and met Matsushita Yuki's beady eyes. He smiled and asked, "Did I scare you?"
"You knew that too?" Yunmu complained in a tearful voice, "Baby, are you trying to break my heart?"
Easter's voice was hoarse. "I'm sorry."
"Why should I apologize? This wasn't your fault. Did you do it on purpose?" Yunmu asked. "I just feel sorry for you. You are our king. Please don't always make yourself look so pathetic, okay?" Her words were almost pleading.
East was completely speechless.
Matsuue Yuki sighed and stepped forward to defuse the situation, "We can talk about everything when we get back. Let the king tidy himself up first; he's not dressed like that."
"Liang Jingjing has prepared a lot of clothes, I'll go find her to get them." Yun Mu also realized her rudeness and awkwardly teleported away.
A white, ball-shaped creature jumped out and nestled in East's arms, looking at him with concern and warmth with its small body.
Easter stroked the system rabbit's soft, smooth fur. "It's because I didn't do a good enough job. I didn't think everything through."
“Don’t rush to take the blame, Yunmu didn’t mean it that way,” Meimei patted Ister’s head. “She’s just worried and confused. Life is unpredictable, think more about yourself, okay?”
Ist's fragile and confused gaze pierced the hearts of the players present, and even the most hardened hearts could not remain unmoved.
"It's not your fault, we'll protect you." Ruo Bu Kao Di Gua said.
“Your Majesty, could you tell us more about yourself?” Matsushita Yuki said. “Don’t always keep this from us and that from us. When things come to a head, it catches us off guard. Many times, you are too obedient and sensible, which makes us feel dispensable.”
"I'm going to take a shower." Easter carried the System Rabbit into the bathroom.
Too many people fled this room in a sorry state today.
