Chapter 105 Breaking Through Defense

"My Huahua is so wonderful, how could I not see that she's possessed by a ghost? Even if she is possessed, what harm would it cause you?"

"Is it that you, Lin Shuyan, who is two-faced, have lost someone to manipulate and exploit, or that you, Zhou Yingxuan, have lost someone who has been hurt by you time and time again yet still has eyes for you?"

Jiang Xingzhou, you're so eloquent, say a few more words!

Jiang Hua, who was watching the show from the sidelines, was practically ready to raise a big flag and cheer for Jiang Xingzhou.

“Zhou Yingxuan, if you were even a man, I wouldn’t look down on you for wavering between two women.” Jiang Xingzhou’s disdain deepened.

“Brother Jiang, Brother Xuan only treats me like a younger sister. I lost my parents when I was young, but my cousin has parents. It’s inevitable that Brother Xuan, Grandma, and Aunt will be more affectionate towards me,” Lin Shuyan explained.

"Jiang Xingzhou, that's enough. You've been so good to Jiang Hua, haven't you?" Zhou Yingxuan felt that Jiang Xingzhou had never been so annoying before. His words were like needles piercing his heart.

“If you hadn’t been away from her, how could she have been gossiped about and rumored about by the villagers?”

"If I'm useless, then you're even more useless than me."

"I'm dying of laughter, Zhou Yingxuan. My husband is absolutely right. You can't be treated like a normal man. It's disgusting," Jiang Hua said sarcastically.

"Do you want to look at yourself now? I was really blind before."

As she spoke, Jiang Hua took Jiang Xingzhou's arm again: "It's a good thing I chose Jiang Xingzhou back then, instead of you, Zhou Yingxuan."

"Jiang Hua, you!" This wasn't the first time Zhou Yingxuan had heard Jiang Hua say such a thing, but this was the first time Jiang Hua had taken the initiative to hold Jiang Xingzhou's hand.

Didn't you say you liked him before? How come you've changed your mind so quickly?

Zhou Yingxuan stared intently at Jiang Hua's arm around Jiang Xingzhou, as if he were watching his woman cheat on him.

"Huahua, let's go." Jiang Xingzhou took Jiang Hua's hand, and the two said goodbye to Aunt Liu and the others before turning and leaving.

"Jiang Xingzhou, stop right there!" Zhou Yingxuan suddenly shouted, "Do you know that Jiang Hua can't get pregnant? When she was little, she slept in the snow one night and almost lost her life. I saved her, but she lost the chance to have children because of it."

After saying these words, seeing Jiang Xingzhou stop in his tracks, Zhou Yingxuan felt a surge of satisfaction welling up inside him.

However, Jiang Xingzhou's next words were going to disappoint him.

"Why are you saying these things to me?" Jiang Xingzhou turned around and looked at Zhou Yingxuan with great interest.

"Do you think that after hearing what you said, I will look down on Huahua, just like you looked down on her back then?"

"Didn't you hear she can't have your children? And what's more, you don't know that she wants to be with only one person for life?" Zhou Yingxuan said angrily, as if she had completely broken off all pretense of civility.

"I heard that, and then what?" Jiang Xingzhou asked in return.

“There is no imperial heir in my family. If I can’t have children, then I can’t have children. So many women have died because of childbirth. I don’t want my Huahua to suffer like that.”

"Besides, I love her, and my eyes and heart can only hold her. What's wrong with being one person for life? Can't you do that?" Jiang Xingzhou asked coldly.

He left with those words and then departed with Jiang Hua.

"Brother Xuan?" Lin Shuyan called out in a clear voice, watching Zhou Yingxuan stare blankly at Jiang Hua and the others as they walked away.

Why do they have the right to say such things about her brother Xuan?

"Yan Yan, was I wrong?" Zhou Yingxuan murmured after the person in front of him had walked away.

“Brother Xuan, you did nothing wrong. Jiang Hua is the one who is wrong. She doesn’t know how to cherish the kindness you show her,” Lin Shuyan said.

"Really?" Zhou Yingxuan felt relieved.

"Really, Brother Xuan." Lin Shuyan nodded and said, "Brother Xuan, you're the best in my heart."

"Is this how they bully you when I'm not around?"

On the way back, Jiang Xingzhou asked with a sullen face.

"It's alright, I'm not one to suffer losses," Jiang Hua said nonchalantly.

They're nothing more than a bunch of clowns. As long as they don't cross her bottom line, they can add some fun to this peaceful life.

"I'm sorry, I failed to protect you," Jiang Xingzhou said in a somewhat heavy tone.

Jiang Hua didn't mind, and the two walked back side by side.

After recuperating in the village for two days, Jiang Hua and Jiang Xingzhou got up early one day and took an oxcart to the town.

Today is a rest day at Shifang Academy, which has five days off every month.

"Father, stepmother!"

Jiang Jingyi walked out of the academy with his bundle and saw his father and stepmother waiting for him at the door. He immediately ran over to them.

"How come you've lost so much weight in just half a month?" Jiang Hua looked at him and ruffled his hair.

"Stepmother, please stop touching my head. I'm not a child anymore." Jiang Jingyi dodged Jiang Hua's hand.

"Father, when did you get back?" Jiang Jingyi stared straight at Jiang Xingzhou.

He really misses his dad; he hasn't seen him in so long.

"Alright, let's find another place to talk. There are too many people here." Jiang Hua looked at the students coming and going from the academy.

I also spotted Xu Yaozu in the crowd. Today, Lin Shuyan and the Xu family came to pick up Xu Yaozu.

They saw themselves in it too, and Jiang Hua didn't miss the fleeting jealousy in Xu Yaozu's eyes.

"How are you doing at Shifang Academy?" Jiang Xingzhou asked as they walked.

"Fortunately, the teachers and dean of the academy have been very kind to me." Jiang Jingyi concealed the inexplicable emotions in his eyes, reporting only good news and not bad.

After leaving the academy, they didn't rush back, but instead bought some things at the market before heading home.

The three arrived at the intersection of East Street in Qingshi Town, preparing to take an oxcart back home. By sheer coincidence, they ran into Xu Yaozu and his group, who were also heading back.

Perhaps because of what happened a couple of days ago, Lin Shuyan didn't say anything this time, and Xu Shi didn't dare to provoke Jiang Hua recklessly.

The two of them quieted down, but Xu Yaozu felt uncomfortable. Usually, his mother would make a few sarcastic remarks about his older sister.

Why is he so quiet this time? Xu Yaozu felt a little sorry for him; he was being too quiet.

The oxcart wasn't full yet, so it hadn't left. After a while, two more people arrived, and they recognized them as familiar faces: Qin Lianlian and her daughter from Xujia Village.

"Yaozu, you're back!" Qin Lianlian greeted Xu Yaozu as she sat down next to him.

Xu Yaozu nodded aloofly, though he felt a little disgusted by the incense scent emanating from Qin Lianlian.

Qin Lianlian didn't care about Xu Yaozu's attitude towards her. After all, scholars are bound to have different personalities than ordinary people.
