"When she gets back, I'll beat her to death. Eat more, and I'll take the bowl over there to Yaozu tomorrow." Xu Dagui picked up a few more pieces and put them in his mouth.
With a loud "bang!", Jiang Hua kicked open the door to the inner room.
Xu Dagui almost choked on the meat he hadn't swallowed yet because Jiang Hua was so startled.
"Cough cough cough cough!"
Lin Shuyan was the first to react, and looked at Jiang Hua, saying, "Sister Er Ya, you scared Uncle."
"Did you enjoy your meal?" Jiang Hua looked at everyone in the room with a half-smile, their mouths glistening with oil from eating.
"How dare you say that? You shameless girl, you traitor! We haven't had meat in ages, and you ate almost a whole rabbit with someone else!" Madam Xu slammed her bowl heavily on the table.
"Is she your mother? You good-for-nothing! You don't even respect your own parents and grandmother, but you're showing respect to someone else!"
"Ah—!" Xu suddenly screamed in fright, thinking that Jiang Hua was going to hit her.
Unexpectedly, the table was overturned, and the bowl of rabbit meat that hadn't been eaten much spilled onto the ground. Madam Xu looked on with heartache.
"Oh my god, you little brat, are you trying to rebel?!" Madam Xu gasped for breath, clutching her chest, and pointed at Jiang Hua with her other finger as she cursed.
"You like to smash bowls, so go ahead and smash them!" With that, Jiang Hua walked over to the bowl of rabbit meat on the table by the wall and picked it up without hesitation.
"What are you doing? This is for your younger brother!" Xu Dagui looked nervously at the bowl full of rabbit meat in Jiang Hua's hand.
Jiang Hua raised an eyebrow and loosened her grip, causing the bowl full of rabbit meat to fall to the ground, mixed with shards of broken porcelain.
Seeing this, Xu Dagui felt heartbroken. Xu Shi had already picked up a stick from the corner and handed it to him.
"I'm going to beat you to death, you little brat! We finally get to eat meat at home, and you're wasting it!" With that, Xu Dagui swung the stick in his hand and hit Jiang Hua hard.
"I shot this rabbit, what's it to you?" Jiang Hua dodged the stick that was about to hit her.
When Xu Dagui tried to swing the stick at Jiang Hua again, he found that the stick had been restrained.
Jiang Hua pulled hard, and the stick in Xu Dagui's hand was taken away by her.
It broke with a "snap".
"Who told you to speak so rudely and steal my rabbit? Then none of you will eat it, and no one will get away with this." Jiang Hua scanned everyone present, finally fixing her gaze on Lin Shuyan's face.
"Aren't your eyes the best? Lin Shuyan, you've read so many classic books, do you even know what burglary is?"
"Xu Erya, stop bullying Yan Yan here!" Without saying a word, Madam Xu shielded Lin Shuyan behind her, her eyes fixed on the stick in her hand.
She was afraid that the stick in her hand would hit Lin Shuyan in the next second.
Jiang Hua sneered inwardly. Anyone who didn't know better would think that Lin Shuyan was Xu Shi's biological daughter because of her appearance.
"Sister Er Ya, what happened to you?" Lin Shuyan asked, hiding behind Xu Shi with disappointment in her eyes.
"You're so inconsiderate! Grandma and your aunt and uncle haven't eaten meat in ages. How could you do this?"
"No matter what, Aunt Liu and her family are outsiders. We are your family, Sister Er Ya. You should think of us!"
Aunt Liu happened to be bringing Uncle Liu over to check on things, and they heard what Lin Shuyan said before they even entered the door.
The two exchanged a glance, a sense of disappointment rising in their hearts. From the time Lin Shuyan first arrived until now, they had treated her like their own daughter.
Whenever there's meat at home, they never save a few pieces for her, yet she speaks ill of me behind my back.
"Relatives?" Jiang Hua looked at Lin Shuyan and sneered, "They are your relatives, Lin Shuyan, so how could they be my relatives?"
“Sister Er Ya, I know you resent my grandmother.” Lin Shuyan suddenly said with red eyes, “Grandma, Uncle, Aunt, since Sister Er Ya dislikes me so much, please send me back.”
"Yan Yan, don't say that. In this world, you're all alone in your family. Where can you go?" Xu said with heartache.
Jiang Hua couldn't help but sneer as she watched the two of them putting on a show of motherly affection in front of her.
"Go away, you worthless piece of trash!" Xu Dagui chimed in, "Don't think that just because that man at the end of the village wants you, you can act like a tyrant at home now!"
“Your father is right. You’re not married yet. Even if you are, you’d better remember that we’ve already signed a disownment agreement, so you can’t bully Yan Yan,” Madam Xu added.
"In that case, remember what you said today." Jiang Hua couldn't be happier.
"Sister Er Ya, hurry up and apologize to Grandma, Uncle, and Aunt. It's so late, where can you go?" Lin Shuyan pleaded pitifully with Jiang Hua.
"Yan Yan, you're just too kind, letting this brat bully you like this," said Madam Xu, lowering her hand from her chest.
"Grandma Xu, how can you talk like that? Da Gui, Er Ya is your own daughter!" Uncle Liu couldn't stand it anymore and spoke up.
“Uncle, this is my family’s business, so please don’t interfere,” Xu Dagui said, frowning.
Aunt Liu got angry and pulled Jiang Hua to her side: "Er Ya, you'll come home with me tonight. You can marry into Xiao Jiang's family from my house!"
"Go away, you wretched girl! If you leave today, don't ever come back. From now on, I'll only have Yan Yan as my daughter!" Madam Xu threatened Jiang Hua.
“How come I remember being an orphan since I can remember?” Jiang Hua blurted out.
"You!" Xu was so angry that she couldn't speak for a moment.
"Auntie, I'm sorry to have bothered you so much tonight," Jiang Hua said to Aunt Liu.
"It's alright, you can sleep with your aunt tonight." Aunt Liu pulled Jiang Hua and walked straight out.
"Aunt Liu, let me tell you, even if you take Er Ya away, that fifty taels of silver will belong to our family. You won't get a single penny!" Xu shouted as she chased after them.
Upon hearing this, Uncle Liu and Aunt Liu both sighed and shook their heads. How did Xu Dagui's family end up like this?
"Er Ya, you can sleep with me tonight." Aunt Liu said familiarly, taking Jiang Hua's hand. "Your uncle and your brother Tianming will sleep in another room tonight."
"Thank you, Auntie." Jiang Hua nodded and said, secretly noting Aunt Liu's actions today.
Now that Aunt Liu's family has shed the "leading lady" aura surrounding Lin Shuyan, they are no longer blinded by that image.
