One of the wolves was still crunching away when its mutilated arm fell to the ground before it could swallow.
After chewing on the man in black, the two wolves seemed to have lost patience and turned their gaze to Jiang Jingyi and his group who were hiding in the shadows.
Just when Granny Luo thought she was about to be eaten by wolves, Jiang Hua and Bai Heng arrived, attracting the attention of the two wolves.
“These two wolves are even more ferocious than the two wolves outside!” Bai Heng exclaimed in surprise.
Jiang Hua pushed away the man in black, who was already exhausted from fighting the wolves, to prevent him from falling into their jaws.
"Huahua, watch out!" Bai Heng cried out in alarm as the wolf opened its blood-red mouth wide toward her.
Jiang Hua felt a gust of wind coming from behind her. With all her might, she swung her sword and cleanly severed the wolf's head, splattering wolf blood onto her face.
The last remaining wolf, seeing its companion dead, howled to the sky, then suddenly turned and deliberately hid in the corner, hiding behind Jiang Jingyi.
"Stepmother!" Jiang Jingyi was so frightened by the wolf attacking him that he closed his eyes. The next second, he was pulled into someone's arms and rolled around on the ground a few times.
However, the wolf continued its relentless pursuit. Even though it had been stabbed several times and its intestines were spilling out, it seemed oblivious and lunged straight at Jiang Jingyi, who was in Jiang Hua's arms.
"Master, stab its head with the sword!"
Upon hearing this, Jiang Hua picked up the sword beside her and thrust it forcefully at the wolf that was almost upon her. The sword clattered to the ground, and the wolf dodged it.
Just when things were at their most critical, Jiang Hua took out a dagger from her spatial storage. The wolf was now less than ten centimeters away from her.
This time, there was no time to dodge, and the wolf's head crashed into the dagger in Jiang Hua's hand, splattering wolf blood all over the two of them.
"How are you? Are you alright?" Jiang Hua released Jiang Jingyi, who was being held by one arm.
"It's alright, stepmother." Jiang Jingyi immediately got up from Jiang Hua's arms.
"Clean the yard up." Jiang Hua glanced at the messy yard and instructed Luo Mama and the others beside her.
Once outside, the village was brightly lit, and men from every household had come out with sticks.
"Stepmother, you're injured!" Jiang Jingyi, who was following behind Jiang Hua, saw the scratches on her back and felt a pang of heartache.
"It's nothing, just a minor injury."
"What are you going to do with him?" Jiang Hua looked at Xu Yaozu, who was lying on the ground, injured and unconscious, with wolf blood still dripping from the dagger in his hand.
Bai Heng saw through Jiang Hua's intentions, but said nothing. He led the soldiers beside him to check the village for any lone wolves.
Completely oblivious, Jiang Jingyi watched in bewilderment as Jiang Hua squatted down next to Xu Yaozu with a knife in her hand.
How did Xu Yaozu end up here?
What does the stepmother want to do?
Before he could figure it out, Jiang Hua grabbed the wolf's carcass from the ground and smashed it into Xu Yaozu's face. Then, with a swift movement, she severed his tendons.
With a snap, both arms were broken and crushed by her.
Xu Yaozu, who had fainted, was awakened by the pain, but then fainted again from the pain.
"Tie him up and take him back." Bai Heng, who had been wandering around, glanced expressionlessly at Xu Yaozu on the ground and gave the order to his subordinates behind him.
"Isn't this the scholar from Xu Family Village? What's he doing here? Oh dear, he's injured too!" Upon hearing Bai Heng's words, Village Chief Lu hurried forward to take a look and immediately recognized the unconscious man on the ground as Xu Yaozu.
Large chunks of flesh had been bitten off his arms and legs, a horrifying sight that tugged at the heartstrings. People were still wondering why Bai Heng and the others had tied Xu Yaozu up.
Bai Heng explained to everyone that Xu Yaozu had used powder to attract wild beasts in Shili Village. After that, everyone looked at Xu Yaozu on the ground with disdain.
He's supposed to be a scholar, how could he be so vicious? That's a wolf lying on the ground, does he think it's a lamb? Is this something a normal person would dare to mess with? How could someone be so stupid as to do something like this?
If it weren't for the officials and Miss Jiang tonight, wouldn't their Shili Village have been eaten by wolves?
"Lord Bai, you can't let him get away with this. This kind of person doesn't deserve to take the imperial examinations. Who knows how he would treat us common people if he became an official?" Many villagers started to jeer.
Bai Heng cupped his hands and assured everyone present that he would not let the person who did such a thing go unpunished.
Xu Yaozu, who was lying on the ground, no longer needed to be tied up and was carried away by the soldiers. The wolf's carcass on the ground was also taken away. After all, they still needed to give an explanation to the villagers in other villages. Everyone was in a state of panic because of this in the past two days. Now that it has been resolved, they naturally wanted to inform them.
"Huahua, I'm going back to the yamen now. I'll come see you again tomorrow after I'm done with my work."
"Okay." Jiang Hua nodded.
After watching them leave, the villagers carried torches to clean up the wolf blood on the ground. Each household brought out water to dilute the smell of blood, so as to prevent wild beasts from following the scent of blood down the mountain.
Looking at the pitch-black road, Village Chief Lu was torn. Should he go to Xujia Village? But what if there was danger?
"Village Chief, get some rest. You can do whatever you need to do tomorrow. The road at night is dangerous. There are wolves coming down the mountain tonight, and there are bound to be other animals on such a dark road." Jiang Hua saw through Village Chief Lu's thoughts and deliberately tried to persuade him.
“Father, Miss Jiang is right. We can go again tomorrow. He’s in the hands of the yamen officials, so we don’t need to worry about him,” Lu Dayong chimed in.
If it weren't for Lord Bai's words, he wouldn't have believed that Xu Yaozu, a scholar, would do such a thing. He had heard about the conflict between his family and Miss Jiang from others before, but he never expected that the family was truly inhuman and would do such a thing, trying to kill their village!
"Miss Jiang, thank you so much for saving us again tonight."
After seeing off Village Chief Lu, Jiang Hua took Jiang Jingyi home. After closing the door, Granny Luo hurriedly came to greet them.
"Miss, hot water has been prepared and delivered to your room."
Jiang Hua nodded and looked at Jiang Jingyi: "Go back first. If you have any wounds, have Granny Luo clean them for you."
"Okay!" Jiang Jingyi watched Jiang Hua's departing figure with mixed feelings, feeling a pang of self-reproach. Was his stepmother angry with him?
After Jiang Hua returned to her room, she immediately entered her spatial dimension, and the little white snake immediately swam out of the spiritual spring.
Give me the medicine.
She couldn't stand the system on her body for even a minute longer. What did it matter if she killed a thousand enemies but lost eight hundred of her own?
"Master, have you thought it through?" The little white snake hesitantly handed Jiang Hua a small brocade box with its tail curled up.
"This thing works?" Jiang Hua looked at the bright green medicine in the brocade box and felt a sense of doubt. She just couldn't believe that this thing could strip away the system from her body.
