Chapter 19 Dealing with Pig Offal

After finishing a bowl of wonton noodles, Jiang Hua was full. She looked around at the business of the stalls next to her. There were several noodle stalls, all selling noodles and steamed buns.

"Do I need to pay money to set up a stall here?" Jiang Hua asked Jiang Xingzhou.

Upon hearing this, Jiang Xingzhou raised an eyebrow and looked at Jiang Hua: "You want to set up a stall? What will you sell?"

"I don't know yet, I'll find out first," Jiang Hua said truthfully.

Since she was already here, she might as well make the best of it. It was a fact that she couldn't go back after time travel, so since God had given her a chance to live again, she might as well live well in this era.

Since we're going to live a good life, whether in modern times or here, money is the key. Without money, you can't do anything, let alone live a good life. You can only rely on Jiang Xingzhou to survive.

Rather than relying on others, Jiang Hua thought it was better to rely on herself. She wanted to take control of her own future, as Jiang Xingzhou and Jiang Jingyi were not to be underestimated.

It's clear she won't stay in this remote mountain village forever, but she can't predict what will happen in the future, so she should just focus on the present.

“Setting up a stall in this market only requires paying ten coins for the stall fee,” Jiang Xingzhou replied.

"Want to go shopping? I'm going to buy groceries for the next couple of days. See if there's anything you'd like to eat."

"Then let's go take a look together."

There were still two large cabbages at home, so Jiang Xingzhou didn't buy any more vegetables and instead led them to a pork stall.

I cut off five pounds of white pork fat and then asked the vendor to cut off another five pounds of pork.

"Brother, how much is this?" Jiang Hua asked, pointing to the large bone that had been cleaned of meat.

"Young lady, this stuff has no meat, it's worthless. You'd be better off buying real meat," the pork vendor advised.

"Since it's not worth much money, can you sell me this small pile, brother?" Jiang Hua estimated that there were only five or six pieces in the small pile.

"Since you want it, and you've bought quite a lot, I'll give it to you for three coins a pound." The pork vendor deftly picked up a large pork bone from the table and weighed it.

"Anything else?" Jiang Xingzhou asked, taking out some silver.

"I want to buy them all," Jiang Hua said, looking at the pig offal in the corner of the stall.

Jiang Xingzhou followed Jiang Hua's gaze and saw that she was talking about pig offal. He frowned slightly and said, "I have money, I can buy more meat."

“That’s not what I meant. I bought it because it’s useful,” Jiang Hua explained.

Seeing that Jiang Hua had said so, Jiang Xingzhou did not insist and took out the silver to pay the stall owner.

After buying the pork, Jiang Hua suggested going to the grain store to buy some flour and rice, as they didn't have much rice left at home.

When buying rice and flour, Jiang Hua also learned about the prices of food in this era: coarse rice cost three coins per pound, white rice cost five coins per pound, and white flour cost six coins per pound.

Since there was a cart, Jiang Hua bought five catties of white rice and five catties of white flour, as well as a jar of vinegar.

This time, Jiang Hua gave the money first, and then passed by Mingde Hall.

Jiang Hua thought for a moment, then went to Mingdetang and got some spices such as cinnamon, star anise, and bay leaves.

Although there was space, I still bought some to cover my tracks.

"We should head back now, or it'll be dark before we get back," Jiang Xingzhou said, looking at the many items piled up on the shuttle bus.

"Okay." Jiang Hua led Jiang Jingyi out of the town and then helped him into the carriage.

"You come up too," Jiang Xingzhou said, stopping in his tracks and looking at her.

"No need, I can walk," Jiang Hua refused. She still wanted to walk back, just to get some exercise.

Jiang Xingzhou fell silent, and the two of them did not exchange any words, walking back in silence the whole way.

When we returned to Xujia Village, the sun had already set, and everyone was already at home having dinner.

So no one noticed that Jiang Hua and the others were pushing a cart full of things back home.

Jiang Jingyi had already fallen asleep on the cart, and Jiang Xingzhou carefully lifted her off the cart.

While it was still a little light, Jiang Hua took a wooden basin from the kitchen and processed the two sets of pig offal she had bought.

"Jiang Xingzhou, you can cook dinner. I'll clean up the pig offal," Jiang Hua said to Jiang Xingzhou.

"Okay." Jiang Xingzhou glanced at Jiang Hua thoughtfully before walking into the kitchen.

Jiang Hua looked at the two sets of pig offal in the wooden basin. The stall owner had already cleaned the offal, but it still emitted a stench and a fishy smell.

Jiang Hua poured in half a bucket of water, scrubbed the pig offal, drained the water, and then grabbed a handful of flour and placed it on top of the offal.

Then I kept kneading it.

Seeing that it was almost done, I rinsed off the impurities that had been rubbed out with clean water, added the baking soda I took out from my space, and rubbed it again following the same steps.

Jiang Hua then carefully picked out the large and small intestines from the pig's offal, added a little salt and vinegar, and rubbed them again until the mucus and impurities inside the intestines were cleaned.

By the time they finished cleaning the two pig offal, it was already dark, the moon had come out, and Jiang Xingzhou had prepared dinner.

"Is it ready?" Jiang Xingzhou asked as he came out after setting out the food.

"You're here." Jiang Hua stood up from the small stool, probably because she had been squatting for too long.

Suddenly I stood up, and everything went black before my eyes, and a wave of dizziness washed over me.

"How are you? Are you alright?"

By the time she realized what was happening, she had already been helped up, and she could hear Jiang Xingzhou's voice in her ear.

"It's nothing, I guess I've been squatting for too long." Jiang Hua quickly stepped away from Jiang Xingzhou's embrace.

I just finished cleaning pig offal, and I still smell a bit.

“Ah Yi hasn’t gotten up yet. I’ve already boiled water in the kitchen. Go change and wash up first. We’ll wait for you,” Jiang Xingzhou suddenly said.

"Okay." Jiang Hua nodded in response, took out some clothes from the inner room, went into the kitchen, and closed the door.

Jiang Xingzhou didn't have to wait long; Jiang Hua came out a quarter of an hour later.

Seeing this, Jiang Xingzhou went into the inner room and woke Jiang Jingyi up for dinner.

Jiang Jingyi looked like he hadn't slept enough, probably because he was tired from going to town today.

The dishes tonight were simple; Jiang Xingzhou just fried a few eggs and stir-fried a plate of bok choy.

After dinner, Jiang Hua didn't rest either, continuing to process the cleaned pig offal.

First, marinate the cleaned pig offal with some salt. Then, take out the pork bones and deboned chicken carcasses that I bought today, as well as the spices that Mingdetang has prepared.

While Jiang Xingzhou was in the inner room, she took out a lot of spices from her space and mixed her own braising spices.

Cinnamon, Sichuan pepper, star anise, galangal, fennel, licorice, cardamom, amomum villosum, lemongrass, nutmeg, cloves, bay leaves, and licorice root.

Jiang Hua looked at the spices placed in a bowl and nodded in satisfaction. Nothing was missing.
