Chapter 94 You were moved by a bowl of plain porridge?

"Oh?" Jiang Hua raised an eyebrow, waiting for her to continue.

"That day I encountered some beggars on the street who wanted to lay a hand on me. It was Liu Yan who appeared out of nowhere and saved me from those beggars," Meng Xin said as she recalled.

"And then? You fell in love with him at first sight?" After thinking for a moment, Jiang Hua asked again, "Did he fall from the sky? Does he know martial arts?"

“No, the image I have of him is that of someone who falls from the sky. Brother Ayan is a businessman, how could he know martial arts?” Meng Xin shook her head and said.

"I'm with Brother Ayan because he saved me from those beggars again the second time," Meng Xin said self-satisfiedly.

"Those beggars must have failed the first time, so they tried every means to attack me again. Luckily, my brother Ayan appeared in time."

“He saved me and took me home. His home was already destitute, and his mother was lying in bed, seriously ill. He took out the only white rice in the house and cooked me white porridge, saving it all for me to drink.”

Upon hearing this, Jiang Hua immediately felt sorry for Madam Meng.

If it was a coincidence the first time, what about the second time?

She didn't believe it was a coincidence. The same hero-saves-the-damsel-in-distress scenario could happen twice. It couldn't have been deliberately arranged. Jiang Hua could write it backwards.

I glanced at Meng Xin, who was still immersed in happiness. She had been too well protected and had never experienced the harsh realities of society.

"So, you were moved by a bowl of plain porridge?" Jiang Hua's lips twitched slightly as she asked again to confirm.

She wanted to see if the huge Meng family couldn't even afford a bowl of plain porridge.

"Yes, it makes me feel at home. Brother Ayan is very gentle with me and will do everything he can to be good to me. He's kind to me and won't force me to do things I don't like," Meng Xin nodded and explained.

"Meng Xin, what do you mean by that? I've loved you for over ten years. Whatever you want, I've never given it to you. When have I ever forced you to do something you don't like?" Madam Meng asked incredulously.

These past few days, no matter how much she pleaded, she wouldn't tell her what was going on between her and that man. But now, when Dr. Jiang asked her casually, she told her everything.

For a moment, Madam Meng felt a pang of pain in her heart, and felt that the daughter in front of her was somewhat unfamiliar.

"I don't want to be some kind of well-bred lady, I don't want to see the young master you've arranged for me to marry, I just want to be with my brother Ayan, Mother, please stop forcing me, I'm really going crazy!" Meng Xin started yelling again.

"I just want you to find someone of equal social standing, so that after you get married, life will be easier, and you won't have to worry about daily necessities like firewood and oil," Madam Meng earnestly advised.

"What can that Liu Yan give you? Nothing, just a silver tongue to deceive people."

“Mother, I have money, isn’t that enough?” Meng Xin said immediately.

"Can you give him money for the rest of your life? What's the use of a man like that?"

“Mom, you’re too domineering. Father didn’t want you because he couldn’t stand you like this,” Meng Xin said.

"Anyway, I'm the only one in the family. When the time comes, Brother Ayan can marry into our family, and we can hand over the family business to him. Mom, you've worked hard for most of your life, it's time for you to take a break."

"You! Meng Xin, you have disappointed me greatly!"

Having said that, Madam Meng was completely disappointed in her daughter and left in a huff.

"Mother, am I wrong?" Meng Xin continued to call out to her mother's retreating figure.

"Dr. Jiang, do you think I'm wrong?" Meng Xin asked Jiang Hua.

“Ms. Meng, if you think you are right, then you are right. Everyone has to take responsibility for the choices they make.” Jiang Hua didn’t say much more and just agreed with Meng Xin.

"During the few days you've been at home, hasn't Young Master Liu come to see you?" Jiang Hua asked again.

"Well, Brother Yan is usually busy with business. He said he would give me a good life," Meng Xin said, making excuses for Liu Yan.

"Miss Jiang, you're married now. Why didn't I see your husband at your house that day?" Meng Xin asked curiously.

“He’s gone out on business, he’ll be back in a while,” Jiang Hua said, getting up.

"Miss Meng, I have to go now. If you feel unwell again, please come to Mingde Hall to find me."

"Dr. Jiang, let me see you out." Meng Xin prepared to get up and leave Jiang Hua's room.

"No need, Miss Meng, I need to go see Madam Meng. You should rest first," Jiang Hua politely declined.

Upon hearing that Jiang Hua was still going to find her mother, Meng Xin didn't insist anymore. Instead, she said to Jiang Hua, "Doctor Jiang, if you can, please help me persuade my mother. My mother agrees to me and Brother Ayan, just for the sake of the child in my belly."

Jiang Hua did not agree to Meng Xin's request and left with her medicine box. However, in Meng Xin's eyes, Jiang Hua had already promised to persuade her mother.

Her brother Ayan is so good, how could her mother disagree!

At this moment, Madam Meng was sitting in the main hall. When Jiang Hua walked over, she saw that Madam Meng's eyes were red, which must have been provoked by Meng Xin's words.

"Dr. Jiang, I'm so sorry, you had to see this funny today," Madam Meng said, wiping away the tears that were still wet at the corners of her eyes.

"It's alright, Madam Meng, please calm down," Jiang Hua advised.

“The deed is done, and Miss Meng has already made up her mind about that man. If Madam Meng continues to object, it will only strain her relationship with Miss Meng.”

"But how can I watch her jump into the fire?"

That makes sense; you naturally want your daughter, whom you gave birth to and raised, to have a good life in the future.

“Madam Meng, if I may be so bold, but given Miss Meng’s personality, it’s not appropriate for us to say too much. Perhaps it would be better to let her see the man for herself,” Jiang Hua suggested.

"Is this alright? Does Dr. Jiang have any suggestions?" Madam Meng asked hurriedly.

"If Madam Meng trusts me, I can be entrusted with counseling Miss Meng."

"This..." Madam Meng hesitated. How could Jiang Hua help her for no reason? Could she have some ulterior motive?

"Madam Meng, please don't misunderstand, I am here for the money," Jiang Hua said again.

Madam Meng was relieved and immediately agreed to Jiang Hua's request, promising to cooperate fully.

Meng Xin also discovered that since Doctor Jiang left, her mother had removed the guards from her courtyard.

She cautiously ventured out of the courtyard and found that no one stopped her.

Just after Meng Xin left the Meng family, Madam Meng emerged from the artificial rockery, her face filled with deep disappointment.

Are you so eager to see that spineless man? You don't even want your own mother anymore?

"Madam, please don't overthink it. Miss will realize her mistake and repent," the old woman behind her comforted her.

"I hope so," Madam Meng could only sigh deeply.
