The old monk was beating the wooden fish and chanting scriptures.
"What is your name, senior?" Wei Dongliu asked respectfully.
The other party ignored it.
"Senior, are you practicing Mahayana, Hinayana or Hinayana?" Wei Dongliu asked again.
The other party still ignored me.
"Although my companion has practiced the magic way, he is not an unforgivable person." Wei Dongliu advised carefully, "If you can show some mercy, I will be very grateful."
The other party still ignored him and just kept banging the wooden fish.
Wei Dongliu turned around and gave a helpless look to the pitiful Jiang Li'an.
Jiang Li'an responded with a tender look that said "please".
Wei Dongliu ignored her pleading look and was about to walk inside when he suddenly heard the old monk say:
"Let her go, fine. But there are two things."
"First, she has a heavy karma. If you ask me to let her go, then you will be implicated in this karma, and you will have to bear the consequences."
"Second, you need to find the Feiyan Sword. It is deep in the back hall."
"But the back hall has been occupied by demons. If you want to get the sword, you have to pass through there. You must copy the scriptures here first. Otherwise, you will die if you enter."
Wei Dongliu:?
He wanted to say something else, but the old monk just waved his hand, and immediately in front of him there appeared a desk, a study chair, rice paper, writing brushes and ink, as well as a neatly arranged stack of thread-bound books.
Well, you are an immortal, you have the final say.
Wei Dongliu calmed down, sat down on the chair, and began to grind the ink slowly and leisurely.
Jiang Li'an had half of his body pressed under the bowl. Sometimes he looked at Wei Dongliu who was concentrating on writing, and sometimes he peeked at the old monk who was chanting scriptures and reciting Buddhist scriptures. His initial panic of being trapped calmed down, and his eyes were rolling around.
Wei Dongliu copied a piece of rice paper and suddenly realized something was wrong.
This seems... not like a Buddhist scripture that explains theories and discusses profound concepts, but rather like a collection of fables composed of many short stories, mainly telling the story of how Mara, the demon king of the sixth heaven, battles with the great Buddhist powers.
According to the scriptures, from the sky upwards is the Desire Realm, which has six heavens, and the sixth heaven is called "Tathagata Heaven". The creatures in the Desire Realm are all skilled in the ability to transform, which can stir up the six desires in people's hearts, corrupt people's foundation, and cause people to fall without knowing it. They are "the worst in the Desire Realm", and therefore are called demons.
The highest point of the Heaven of Changes and Freedom is called "Six Desires Peak", where the Sixth Heaven Demon King "Po Xun" lives. He has five hundred daughters, the "devil daughters", and his "demon messengers, demon sons, demon wives, and demon men, husbands and women". They often come down to the world to disturb the monks' practice.
After copying all the scriptures on the desk, Wei Dongliu already had a very complete understanding of the creature called "Heavenly Demon", and he also guessed what kind of "demon" would be waiting for him in the back hall next.
"Thank you, Master." He stood up and bowed sincerely to the old monk.
The old monk still ignored him.
Wei Dongliu came to the bowl, half squatted down, and said to Jiang Li'an:
"Please wait here for a while, Brother Jiang. I will be back soon."
Witch Jiang wanted to say "Don't leave", but she was not a person who would act on impulse after all. She knew that she could only bet that the old monk would keep his promise, so she smiled flawlessly and said:
"Fellow Daoist Wei, just go ahead. I can still hold on for a while."
"Yeah." Wei Dongliu stood up and walked towards the back of the hall.
Turning around the main hall, I saw that the light around me suddenly became darker.
The candlelight on the wall flickered, and the terrain gradually extended downwards.
After a while, they came to a side hall with a plaque with three large characters on it:
Demon Prison Hall.
Wei Dongliu remained calm, told Ajing to ask it to help pay attention to the surrounding dangers, and then walked in.
There was a large road in the middle of the room, with rows of Arhat statues on both sides. Their expressions were either cold and silent or frowning and glaring, and they all held bowls in their hands.
There were continuous banging sounds in each bowl, as if something inside was hitting the inner wall.
Maybe there is a demon imprisoned inside? Wei Dongliu suddenly had this thought.
After turning a few corners, he suddenly found himself a little lost.
Inside this Demon Prison Hall, there are Arhat statues on both sides and no landmark buildings, making it impossible to tell east, west, south and north.
Just when I was about to ask Jing if I could make a small map or something to record the entire route I had taken, I saw a black mist suddenly appear in front of me.
The fog came very quickly, covering his face in almost an instant. Wei Dongliu was not afraid of the danger. He just pulled out the Five Elements Divine Light and brushed it lightly at the opponent. Screams immediately rang in his ears.
"Please spare my life, Immortal!" Seeing that the divine light was too powerful, the opponent decisively used the gecko tail-breaking tactic, and only separated a small group of mist to escape the coverage of the five elements divine light. Then he fell to the ground and rolled, and turned into a beautiful woman with a graceful figure, begging bitterly:
"I was in a hurry and offended the Immortal. I should be punished, but I dare to ask the Immortal to spare my life!"
"Are you a demon?" Wei Dongliu retracted his divine light and asked calmly.
"Yes." The girl said timidly, "My name is 'Ailian'. If the Immortal Master wants to find something, I am willing to lead the way."
Love and pity? Wei Dongliu frowned slightly, thinking of the scriptures he had copied before.
It is said that the demon king of the sixth heaven, Po Xun, has five hundred daughters, each of whom has the ability to transform into a myriad of forms. When they walk in the lower world, they often use the word "Ai" as their surname... So he asked:
"Are you the daughter of Maboshun?"
Ai Lian immediately fell to the ground, trembling and saying:
"No, how can I be a princess? This name was not given by your majesty, I just picked it casually."
Wei Dongliu listened patiently, thinking that the demons were always cunning, and he didn't know whether it was true or it was deliberately lying to deceive him, so he continued to ask:
"Why are you here?"
Ai Lian said softly:
"Reporting to the Immortal, this place used to be the Jiejiao Jin'ao Island. The Jiejiao immortals invited us to come down to the mortal world to enjoy music, singing and dancing here."
"Later, the war between Chan and Jie broke out, and Jin'ao Island also fell into the war. Some of us celestial beings escaped back to the heaven, but the rest were unable to escape and were suppressed and imprisoned here by the powerful Western religion. It has been more than 10,000 years since then."
"I was able to break free of the seal by chance a few hundred years ago, but I cannot leave this palace. I dared to offend you before because I wanted to attach myself to you and leave here, but I didn't really have any evil intentions. Please forgive me, Immortal."
Wei Dongliu listened to her explanation expressionlessly, thinking that this demon was really talking nonsense.
How could I not know what the Jiejiao monks were going to do with the Heavenly Demon?
It is most likely that the Jiejiao monks are here to lure the demons down to the mortal world, and then refine them into demons to drive them around, just like what the Demonic Path is doing today.
Then in the battle of Chan and Jie, Jin'ao Island was captured by the Chan Sect and the Western Sect, and the demons who had no time to escape were suppressed here.
Seeing that he looked indifferent, Ai Lian asked tentatively:
"If you want to find something here, I am willing to lead the way."
"Can you read my thoughts?" Wei Dongliu suddenly glared.
"That's not the case!" Ai Lian fell to her knees again. "Let the Immortal know that I can only see a few of your thoughts, just like boiling water in a copper furnace, you can see the curling steam above it. As for what the Immortal is thinking in your heart, unless I dive into your sea of consciousness, I will not know it at all."
After hearing what she said, Wei Dongliu thought to himself, could the demon be so powerful? The scripture didn't mention it.
It’s just that the other party’s words are true and false, and it’s hard to say how many lies are mixed in. I don’t believe anything and just let it lead the way for me.
