Chapter 169 Rumors Stop with the Wise

Everyone was resting inside the stadium when Huang Yuanqing and several civilian representatives went to Li Xuanzu's car to collect supplies for distribution.

Occasionally, a few noises would rise from among the common people, but they were quickly silenced by those around them.

Li Xuanzu heard it clearly; they were talking about him, and in a negative way.

"Brother, should I go and say something?" Qian Li stood next to Li Xuanzu, a little distance away from the others, but she could still hear the gist of it.

"Sigh, I'm too lazy to deal with these ungrateful wretches anymore." Li Xuanzu sighed, no longer wanting to kill them off over a few words as he used to.

Perhaps they were tired, or perhaps they had become accustomed to it.

"Qian Li, do you still hold the belief that you treat those ignorant people of the Dragon Kingdom as human beings?" Li Xuanzu turned to Qian Li and asked.

Qian Li hesitated for a moment before replying, "I can't see everything as insignificant like you do. Although I would do it if you asked me to kill them, I'm not as afraid as I used to be."

“Afraid? There’s nothing to be afraid of. They’re weak and can’t control their mouths. It’s pointless for them to die.” Li Xuanzu placed his hand on Qian Li’s head.

“Look at them, greedy, arrogant, and foolish. But these are not flaws. The only flaw in this world is weakness.”

"People can be greedy. The strong pursue even greater strength because of their greed. The strong may be arrogant, but that is also their pride. Even if they are foolish, no one will or dares to think they are foolish."

"But what about the weak? They die because of greed, because of arrogance, because of ignorance."

“They were lucky. I didn’t care about them. I provided them with food, a safe environment, and even saved their lives. In the end, people still gossiped about it behind my back.”

"They're just shameless. When they're about to die, they want to live; when they're alive, they want to eat; after eating, they want to eat their fill; and after they're full, what happens? They put down their bowls and start cursing. Heh heh." Li Xuanzu finished speaking and pointed to a middle-aged woman who had just unloaded several boxes of compressed biscuits from their cargo.

The woman was rather plump; it would be more accurate to describe her as having broad shoulders and a thick waist.

She walked into the crowd, distributed compressed biscuits to everyone, and kept muttering to herself.

Qian Li couldn't hear clearly, so she looked at Li Xuanzu.

"She said, 'This Li Xuanzu is just here to torment us. We only get this stuff to eat, we can't even get a hot meal. Ugh, scum.' See how happy she is eating like that?" Following the direction Li Xuanzu was pointing, Qian Li saw the middle-aged woman.

He was mouthing the words correctly, but he was still stuffing compressed biscuits into his mouth with a "coughing and churning" sound. He seemed to be choking, so he grabbed a mineral water bottle next to him and gulped it down.

He had only taken two bites of the compressed biscuit in his hand when it fell to the ground, and no one paid any attention to it.

The woman patted her chest, opened a new box of compressed biscuits, and muttered a few more words, mostly criticizing Li Xuanzu.

“You must have been to Kyoto and seen the lives of ordinary people. Who would dare to throw half-eaten food on the ground? Do you know what their mentality is?” Li Xuanzu turned to ask Qian Li.

Qian Li shook her head, and Li Xuanzu then told her the answer.

"What they were thinking was, since the food belongs to a scoundrel like Li Xuanzu anyway, the more they waste, the better. If he starves to death, it'll be a contribution to the country."

Upon hearing this, Qian Li looked at Li Xuanzu with disbelief in her eyes.

"What? You don't believe me? It's a pity I can't see what they're thinking. These fools always manage to redefine my understanding of the word 'idiot'."

Qian Li remained where she was, and Li Xuanzu had no idea what she was thinking.

"I'll think about it slowly when I get back. I'll find a place to rest so I don't get a headache seeing all these people."

Qian Li came to her senses and followed Li Xuanzu to a place to sit down.

The two sat in the stadium stands for a long time without saying a word. In the quiet corner, only their breathing could be heard, steady and even.

It wasn't until it got dark that Li Xuanzu finally spoke.

"You need to change your mindset. When faced with rumors and gossip, heroes cover their ears and move forward."

Qian Li was stunned, lost in thought.

"But what we need to do is tear their mouths apart and completely eradicate the rumors from their source."

Rumors stop with the wise, but they never dare to slander the strong.
