Chapter 43: The Mad Man

Zhao Chengmo looked at the hand that was hit, curled the corners of his mouth, and went back to his bedroom to rest.

The next day, Brother Wu went to the shop and signed the contract with Mr. Zhen. Uncle Xu, in the name of congratulations, bought the tables, chairs and benches needed for opening the shop out of his own pocket.

At noon, the family tried the roujiamo and hot and sour noodles made by Xu Fulang. Although the taste was different from those made by Gu Lingze, they each had their own flavor and were very popular.

These two snacks are not sold on a tasting basis; the large pot used to stew the meat for Roujiamo is placed directly at the door of the store. The aroma can be smelled along the entire street, and soon customers come to buy them.

As expected, the snack bar was a big hit as soon as it opened. The ingredients prepared the day before were sold out just after noon. Although Brother Wu and Mr. Xu were very busy, they both had smiles on their faces.

When it came time to settle the accounts at the end of the month, Brother Wu insisted on giving half of the money to Gu Lingze. Gu Lingze had no choice but to just take two silver notes from the money.

"This is the money you paid for my recipe. To be frank, this business also depends on your own hard work. I just provided a recipe."

Just as Brother Wu was about to speak, Gu Lingze smiled and said, "If the affection between a family is expressed through money, it will become alienated."

After hearing this, the two had no choice but to give up, but their sense of belonging to this big family became even deeper.

At this time, Zhao Chengmo was in the room holding a letter in his hand. As he read the contents on the letter, his brows gradually furrowed.

After much deliberation, Zhao Chengmo knocked on Gu Lingze's door after dinner.

"A person is a normal person on weekdays, but goes crazy once his eyes turn red. What could be the reason?"

"Does one go crazy when his eyes turn red? Are there any other symptoms?" Gu Ling asked after thinking for a while.

"No matter what season it is, when you go crazy your body will get hot and your strength will become very great."

When a person goes crazy, his strength increases, which is noticeable, but red eyes and hot body are not characteristics of mental illness at all.

Gu Lingze frowned, as if thinking about something.

"How long has he been like this?"

"It's been more than two years." Zhao Chengmo replied.

Gu Lingze tapped his fingertips on the table. After a moment of silence, he said, "If it is just a pathological cause, as far as I know, there is no case like his at present."

"If it is caused by external factors, then I have to diagnose it myself before I can draw a conclusion."

Gu Lingze looked at Zhao Chengmo and asked, "Is the person suffering from this disease your friend?"

Zhao Chengmo didn't want to hide anything from him, so he replied, "I was once a soldier under his command. The general ate and lived with us privately and treated us like brothers."

Gu Lingze raised his eyebrows when he heard what he said and asked, "He is a general? If so, didn't you ask the imperial physician to check it out?"

"I visited many famous doctors but to no avail. After taking their medicine, the time between my going crazy became shorter and shorter." Zhao Chengmo became even more depressed when he said this.

Gu Lingze raised his hand and touched his chin. It seemed that the general had done him a favor. He knew Zhao Chengmo and he would generally not speak unless it was an extremely important matter.

"Although distant water cannot quench my thirst now, I have thought of a way for the time being and will give it to you tomorrow morning."

"Thank you very much."

After Zhao Chengmo left, Gu Lingze sat and thought for a while, then turned around and entered the space.

It was already early morning when he came out again. Gu Lingze stretched, looked at the bottle in his hand, and a faint smile appeared on his face.

"This is the Jiuhuan Pill. As the name suggests, after taking it, the pill will circulate nine times in the body." Gu Lingze handed the bottle to Zhao Chengmo.

"If his illness is caused by external factors, when he takes the first pill, he will feel as if his gallbladder and heart are being ripped out, and he will spit out black blood. If he continues to take the pill, it will temporarily suppress the disease. If not, he will not have any reaction after taking it."

"Okay, I'll write the situation down in the letter." Zhao Chengmo took the bottle. When Gu Lingze was about to take his hand back, he was grabbed. The other person's thumb stroked across the back of his fair hand, said thank you for your hard work, and hurriedly turned around and walked out.

This guy is really becoming more and more touchy, Gu Lingze was still complaining to himself, but trying hard to ignore the heat coming from his ears.

A few days later, at the General’s Mansion.

A middle-aged man was staring intently at the letter in his hand, and on the table next to him was the bottle that Gu Lingze gave to Zhao Chengmo.

Putting down the letter in his hand, the middle-aged man's brows furrowed even more.

A beautiful middle-aged woman walked in from the door. Although she looked graceful and elegant, the fatigue and anxiety on her face added a hint of frosting to her eyes and eyebrows.

"Madam, come and take a look at Cheng Mo's letter." The middle-aged man handed her the letter with a complicated expression.

After quickly reading the contents of the letter, the beautiful woman said to him with a firm expression, "Then let's give it a try."

She was willing to do this not only out of her great trust in Zhao Chengmo, but also because she regarded this bottle of Jiuhuandan as her last hope.

In the dim underground, a disheveled man was sitting on the ground, his limbs tied with iron chains as thick as his wrists, the other end of the chain was deeply embedded in the wall.

He was not imprisoned or forced by anyone, because all these constraints were requested by himself.

If this were not the case, he would not recognize any of his relatives when he went mad. His father and brother were beaten by him many times, so he voluntarily let himself be locked up underground, even if he would never see the light of day.

"Dad, Mom." When the man heard the familiar footsteps, he knew that his parents had come.

No matter how many times they watch this scene, it still makes them feel heartbroken.

But they didn't want to make their son worry anymore, so they could only suppress their emotions, picked up the medicine bottle and calmly said to their son: "Cheng Mo sent it. If you feel pain after taking it, it means that this medicine is effective."

In fact, the man had already become discouraged, but he did not want to disappoint his parents, so he forced himself to take the bottle handed to him by his father, opened the cork, took out a pill and swallowed it.

Time passed by minute by minute, but after swallowing the pill, it was like a drop in the ocean, with no reaction at all.

Just as the hearts of the three men gradually sank to the bottom, the man suddenly felt that all his internal organs were twisted together, the pain was unbearable, and he couldn't help but groan.

"Xiu Yi!" The beautiful woman wanted to go forward to check, but her husband held her back and told her to calm down.

"Cheng Mo's letter has already stated the situation. We can only wait and see." But from the middle-aged man's trembling hands, it can be seen that his heart is not as calm as his words.

But now they could only wait, and they waited all night.

When he opened his eyes again, the man found himself lying on the bed in the room. Although the violence that had been lingering in his body for a long time had not completely disappeared, it seemed to be tightly restrained by an invisible force and could no longer affect him.
