Chapter 21 The Past

Last night, he received three books in a supermarket shopping bag. The books didn't look special, but there were two slips of paper inside. One of them was on the outside, with his name, phone number and home address written on it. He also had a thoughtful note for the motorcycle taxi driver to read, in case the deliveryman forgot or got the address wrong.

Even though a note was given, the package was still delivered to the wrong address. It was delivered to the clothing store on this street, and happened to be delivered to the store owner, who then called a motorcycle taxi to deliver it to him.

Another note was sandwiched between three books, stapled together and carefully sealed in a plastic bag. There wasn't much on it, just another set of account numbers and passwords.

After logging in, no one contacted him. There was only a message sent to the account itself, which talked about three things. If these things were true, they should be called cases, but they have all become a thing of the past.

Zhou Jinwei immediately began to track down the messenger. He could accept an anonymous target working with him through dialogue, but he could not accept such a one-way transparent dialogue.

At least he cannot carry out his work without the other party's knowledge. If the other party has evil intentions, he will become a "thug".

The investigation has reached a deadlock, and it cannot be said that nothing has been gained, but Zhou Jinwei still feels that what he has found out was still deliberately arranged by the other party.

For example, why would the errand-running motorcycle taxi deliver to the wrong place and lead to this clothing store even though the address was given in the notes? This cannot be a coincidence. The mysterious man is very meticulous in his actions and it is impossible for such a mistake to happen.

So the note with the address and contact number was not left for the motorcycle driver. The person deliberately let the three books pass through the hands of the beautiful boss.

This brings up a new question: how can that person be sure that once these three books are delivered to the boss, she will be kind enough to sell them?

This meant that the mysterious person had some connection with her. At the very least, that person had some understanding of You Shenyu and knew what actions she would take.

But that didn't mean much. After all, You Shenyu was very famous in her generation, and everyone knew she had a sharp tongue but a soft heart. Zhou Jinwei just found it a little strange. This kind of operation based on "trust" was too prone to mistakes. Why did she have to be involved?

The biggest problem is that this operation is too roundabout in terms of conveying information.

At present, it seems that the motorcycle taxi driver cannot be found, and the breakthrough may very well be You Shenyu and the three events mentioned in the message.

Just as he was lost in thought, a shout brought him back to the bustling city. Zhou Jinwei took a look and saw that it was the breakfast stall next to him. A teenager was talking to the owner.

"Boss, another bowl of pork trotter rice."

His hair was messy and he shouted a little, but there was nothing noteworthy about him. However, the girl sitting opposite him was quite outstanding. She was beautiful and had a gentle demeanor. She was even wearing her school uniform on her day off. She was probably a senior in high school.

This guy brought such a beautiful girl, but instead of going to the commercial street that young people prefer, he came here to eat pork trotter rice.

Zhou Jinwei shook his head, lit a cigarette, and walked away. Business was more important.

He didn't believe that a person could really completely erase all traces of his activities, so he wanted to verify whether the three things were true, and use this as a breakthrough to catch the mysterious man.

Zhou Jinwei really wanted to verify whether the man’s image matched his guess.

Then, he passed by the unremarkable boy eating pork trotter rice.

The young man was Chen Tinghan.

He sighed in frustration, picked up the bowl, poured some of the pork trotter rice sauce into the rice, and stirred it with chopsticks as if to vent his anger.

Zhou Jinwei was using his imagination to add more details to Chen Tinghan's image and to make up for the flaws he had deliberately exposed.

In fact, Chen Tinghan didn't intend to hide too deeply. His ultimate goal was to gain Zhou Jinwei's trust and then have further contact with him. But he didn't expect that he didn't recognize Wang Jinling.

But it makes sense. He is investigating Wang Kai now, so there is no reason why he can recognize Wang Jinling in a crowd.

There was no deep-seated motive in guiding Zhou Jinwei to find Shang You Shen Yuye. It was simply because this was an arranged "blind date" and he wanted to see if the lovers from their previous lives would still be attracted to each other.

The two were deeply in love in their previous life. Later, Zhou Jinwei died in the line of duty, but their love affair did not end, leaving You Shenyu to wait for someone who would never come back.

As a result, when faced with such a beautiful woman, this pig-nosed man only wanted to check this and that, and didn't even have the thought of developing some personal friendship.

However, Chen Tinghan immediately realized that there was nothing he could do. Love is not an exclamation mark on a map that can be triggered just by encountering it. Everything must be done step by step.

Chen Tinghan was a little depressed, but it didn't stop him from eating. He lowered his head and ate his rice.

This made Wang Jinling on the opposite side laugh: "I don't know whether you like it or not, it's like you have some deep hatred for pig's feet."

Chen Tinghan put down his chopsticks and said, "Of course I love it. There's no better breakfast place in Wanghai than this one. Not only does this place have pork trotters, but the rice noodle rolls across the street are also amazing. There was also a roast duck place a little further away, but it's a pity they moved."

"Did you live here before?" Wang Jinling asked.

"From elementary school to the first grade of junior high school." Chen Tinghan nodded.

"Do you miss it?"

Chen Tinghan looked at a person he couldn't describe in words. He pointed to the small alley in the corner and said, "That's where I used to live. The monthly rent was 400 yuan. It was a one-bedroom apartment with a balcony, kitchen, and bathroom that I shared with the landlord. The bathroom was only big enough for three people to stand side by side, and there was only one bed in the bedroom, and three people had to sleep on it.
