Chapter 54 "Gift"

"He's very cautious and smart. He's honed his skills for over a decade to kill people, and they're truly extraordinary. But he still made a mistake. He didn't have enough money, so he had to find a cheap place to stay, like an hourly room. He only knew he was being pursued, but he didn't know the police hadn't issued a formal warrant for his arrest. He wouldn't use his identity to do anything, so he either slept under a bridge or found a small, informal hotel that didn't require ID."

Zhou Jinwei sat in the car, put his mobile phone aside, put on Bluetooth headphones to listen to Chen Tinghan's explanation, and wrote something with a piece of paper and pen in his hands.

The narration was smooth and steady: "If he had the nerve to sleep under a bridge, it would have been really hard to find a place. Fortunately, he chose a place that was sheltered from the wind and rain. Following this line of thought, I found another street a kilometer away from Bell Tower Street. There are many black hotels here that do not require identification to stay."

"I was lucky. I followed the road down and just now, the next day, I found him and his shopping list on the surveillance camera at a nearby supermarket."

"The prepared food Ji Yanghai bought is mostly short-lived stuff. Judging by the portions, it should be enough for three or four people. He might be living with others, so that narrows the scope. Small hotels that charge daily fees have basically been eliminated. He's either looking for hotels that support long-term stays or low-rent housing that rents out for a long time."

"The former, with three or four people sharing a room, is too crowded and not cost-effective. Hotels wouldn't be happy to do business with them. It's low-rent housing. Based on the direction he took when he left, I was able to find out his exact location."

Zhou Jinwei wrote down the address on a piece of paper, responded a few times, and then wrote down Ji Yanghai's schedule. He handed it to Qin Yehai, who was sitting in the driver's seat, and said, "Go arrest him."

Qin Yehai looked at the contents on the paper. The details were so detailed that he was dumbfounded. He asked, "What do you mean? Master, are you an informant or an immortal? How could you really find out about a place as big as Wanghai?"

"Stop talking nonsense and drive."

Zhou Jinwei appeared calm on the surface, but was actually quite shocked. He took the time to send a text message: Why don’t you consider working in our industry?

This is a joke, they don't understand.

Qin Yehai started the car but didn't start it. He asked, "Well, what should we do over there?"

He pointed outside the car, where the dilapidated streetscape of Zhonglou Street was visible. A bald man was setting up a mobile phone repair stall nearby. He was their target, a black marketeer who might be in possession of contraband.

"Never mind him, arrest Ji Yanghai. If he has something on him, even if he pulls out the carrot and brings out the dirt, this kind of person won't be able to escape."

Soon, the one-kilometer journey was completed in the blink of an eye, and they soon arrived at the designated building.

The community they live in must be more than 20 years old. The green belts are poorly maintained, and the flowers, plants and trees are old, with withered branches and fallen leaves, just like the people here, who have fallen into old age.

There was no elevator in the building, so they climbed up to the seventh floor and found the house number on the note. There was no dedicated cleaning staff in the community, and along the way, they found that some floors of the corridors were more or less piled with domestic garbage, but none of the houses were as exaggerated as here. The garbage at the door was piled up into a small mountain, almost blocking the door.

Qin Yehai was a reckless man. Without saying a word, he kicked a bag of garbage away and went to knock on the door. Zhou Jinwei quickly pulled him back.

Zhou Jinwei took a deep breath, stood up, took out the peephole, and threw it to Qin Yehai. The apprentice understood what he meant, covered the peephole with it, and looked inside. Zhou Jinwei took out his mobile phone and reported to the bureau urgently.

"Hmm?" Qin Yehai suddenly snorted in confusion: "What's going on?"

Zhou Jinwei put his hands on his waist and asked warily, "What's wrong?"

Qin Yehai opened his mouth, not knowing how to answer, so he could only hand the endoscope back to Zhou Jinwei. However, his movement was a little rough and he accidentally pressed the door handle. Strangely, this pressure actually opened the door.

The two men looked at each other, then cautiously opened the door. When they saw the true face of the room, there were three men inside, three men tied up with ropes and gagged with rags.

Zhou Jinwei knew two of them, both of whom were registered wanted criminals.

They all looked at the two of them and shouted for help, but their mouths were blocked and they could only make funny whimpering sounds.

The two sides approached each other, and they begged Zhou Jinwei with their eyes to take off the gauze in their mouths and untie them. However, Zhou Jinwei first noticed the label wrapped with electrical tape on one of their heads, and he tore it off.

When Zhou Jinwei saw the content clearly, a chill seemed to run from the soles of his feet to the top of his head.

"It's bad!"

He immediately took out his cell phone and sent the note to the man.

......

......

Chen Tinghan logged into his account with another mobile phone and only then saw the photo he had taken.

The note read:

I was so surprised that someone was actually following me.

I thought I did it perfectly, and I'm curious how you did it, but now is obviously not the right time to have a conversation.

These three wanted criminals are my gifts to you. I hope you will show some leniency online for the sake of the gifts.

If you insist, it doesn't really matter. By the time you see this note, it will be too late.

Criminals who kill people without mercy and are far more cruel than me are not worth your trouble.

Chen Tinghan's expression did not fluctuate. He adjusted his tie and tried to relax as much as possible. He was wearing formal clothes and standing on the roof of a five-story house. Looking down, he saw Deng Shi's residence in front of him. He gathered a group of "brothers" around him and found a few women to have fun inside.
