Chapter 15 A Song for You

Chen Tinghan's expression remained unchanged. He didn't reveal any inside information, but just casually said, "They are all quite bored, spreading rumors for fun."

"It's really boring. The student union president isn't the emperor. We just do whatever the Youth League Committee teacher tells us to do. For example, tonight, she asked us to coordinate and supervise club recruitment and promote school events," Wang Jinling said, taking a sip of her milk tea. Then, she gently turned the cup around. The label on the back read "less sugar, more ice."

Wang Jinling didn't like anything too sweet, and many people around her knew it. But how could this junior, whom she had just met not long ago, be so considerate?

"Recently, many people in my class like to drink milk tea with a hand-pulled pancake. I still find it too sweet and oily, and not healthy." Wang Jinling said, "You should eat less too."

Chen Tinghan nodded, expressing his gratitude for the concern. He quickly scanned the desk and saw some documents. He feigned surprise at the contents and said, "The school is going to catch takeout and also have uniform school uniforms."

"School uniforms will be unified across the city, not just ours. However, most students don't know about it yet, so it has to be kept secret."

Despite saying this, Wang Jinling's tone was neither light nor heavy, as if she didn't care much about the matter. The highlight was what she was going to say next. She handed over a flyer, and Chen Tinghan read out the words: "Top Ten Campus Singers?"

"They're going to cooperate with the teacher today to discuss this matter with the lower grade class. It's scheduled to be after the midterm exam. Can you sing?"

Chen Tinghan suddenly became alert, put down the flyer, and said, "I love listening to music, but I'm tone-deaf. How about you, senior sister?"

This was a lie. He had learned basic music theory in junior high, and his voice was pretty good. He certainly wasn't a pro, but he was definitely not tone-deaf. But for some reason, he didn't study further, and he had never sung in front of Wang Jinling in his previous life.

Wang Jinling didn't respond, but asked, "What kind of songs do you like to listen to?"

Chen Tinghan came up with a universal answer, saying, "My playlist isn't fixed, it's a mess, I listen to a little bit of everything."

As if she was waiting for this answer, she took out her phone, held it upside down in her palm, and said to Chen Tinghan: "They all say I look like an old man, and I can't refute it. After all, I don't even know what pop songs they are listening to this year. Can you pick one for me?"

As if anticipating his refusal, the girl said in advance: "Pick a song, maybe I can sing it for you."

Chen Tinghan stared at Wang Jinling from under his hair, trying to find a hint of truth from this flawless face that was so perfectly controlled.

If this was a request from the future Wang Jinling, it could be interpreted as a test. If Chen Tinghan simply wanted a song he'd enjoy, he could have used an old favorite. But Wang Jinling narrowed it down to "this year's hits," and his vague statement became a thorn in her side.

Chen Tinghan has just been reborn from the future. Fifteen years later, people have heard too many songs that they have been exposed to, and any one of them may not belong to this era.

Even if he is aware of this trap, there is no guarantee that nothing will go wrong unless he is an insider or a related practitioner, or happens to have the habit of recording the release time of each song when listening to it.

Of course, this kind of test could be easily dismissed, and there's no guarantee that Chen Tinghan actually remembers a song released at that time. Even if the test did reveal a problem, it wouldn't actually mean anything.

But his suspicion will increase greatly. Dealing with Wang Jinling will bring danger as long as she becomes suspicious.

In just a few seconds, complicated thoughts flashed through his mind, making his head ache. He stood up and took the phone. After a brief hesitation, his fingers moved and typed in the name of a song. Then he put the phone on the table, and a melody lingered in the room.

Chen Tinghan paid special attention to it. Wang Jinling didn't care much about his actions. She was quite relaxed and didn't seem to care what song he chose.

He shook his head. He thought he was probably possessed by a demon. Fifteen years had been wasted, and the psychological scars were too great. He might even have a bit of PTSD. Frayed nerves wouldn't be relieved overnight.

Wang Jinling slowed down her singing and hummed along with the tune, saying, "It's really nice. I occasionally hear this melody when I pass by the mall."

Chen Tinghan sat down, moved his chair closer to her, and took out today's homework book.

She added the song to her playlist, turned on the loop, then moved her chair closer and began looking through the two papers she had assigned to Chen Tinghan yesterday, while still biting the pancake with dignity.

Chen Tinghan could faintly smell a faint fragrance, which was then quickly covered up by the pancake.

He suddenly laughed, which aroused Wang Jinling's curiosity. She tilted her head in confusion: "What's wrong? Is there something on my face?"

"No, I just think you're really not afraid of being misunderstood."

"Who misunderstood? What did you misunderstand? Would you misunderstand?" Wang Jinling responded and continued to look down at the question.

"I might have guessed that the senior was interested in me, since she was lecturing on a topic and singing a song."

"If you think that, you probably won't be able to get through this door today." Wang Jinling said, "What does it have to do with me what others think?"

"You're right, what does it have to do with them?"

Wang Jinling glanced over the two papers and said, "You have a solid foundation. I can see that your grades were good before. You've just fallen behind temporarily now, but you'll catch up soon."

Chen Tinghan listened, picked up his pen, and put on a learning attitude: "Then I'll have to ask for your careful guidance, teacher."
