Crunch, crunch.
Glug, glug.
At the stall, there were people eating insects, and others drooling with envy.
Given Jiang Yunhe's reputation, after he spoke up, no one doubted whether the food Lu Wu prepared was edible.
Thanks to Jiang Yunhe's reputation, the number of people queuing up at his stall suddenly increased.
Seeing how much others enjoyed their food, some people who had been observing eventually joined the queue and started eating.
The team was assembled, and the first day of setting up the stall went fairly well.
"Sister, I want the most delicious worms."
The little girl in the family of three had a sweet, soft voice. She wasn't shy at all and stood on tiptoe to look at the insects in the plate.
As they got closer, the intense aroma of the oil after being heated to high temperatures caused saliva to trickle from the little girl's lips.
"Then I recommend this one."
Lu Wu pointed to the grasshopper.
Don't let its fierce appearance fool you; this toy is big, meaty, tastes like chicken, and is incredibly crunchy—it's super satisfying to eat.
"Then I'll eat this big worm."
The little girl answered crisply, her big, dark eyes fixed on Lu Wu, a sweet smile on her face—she was clearly a well-behaved child.
Lu Wu glanced at the little girl a few times.
Good children get rewards, so Lu Wu got the little girl a few extra grasshoppers.
The bowl was piled high with food.
"Eat slowly, be careful not to prick your mouth."
Lu Wu patted the little girl's head and received a toothy smile from her, which was incredibly cute.
"Uh-huh."
The little girl nodded and walked sensibly to the open space with her bowl in her hand.
She used a bamboo skewer to poke a grasshopper and handed it to the woman.
"Mother, you eat first."
Look, what a filial child he is.
The woman did not disappoint the child's kindness. Although she was still a little hesitant about eating the insect, she opened her mouth and bit the grasshopper.
With a little force, the hard outer shell was bitten open, and the taste lurking beneath the crisp sound made the woman's eyes light up.
"tasty."
"hey-hey."
The little girl smiled and fed another one to her father.
The couple stood to the side and said softly, "Abao, after we finish eating this, we'll go see the doctor, okay?"
The little girl has a small mouth, so you can't wrap it all in one bite.
She took a bite out of the dog and chewed it. A crunching sound came from her mouth, and the little girl looked up in confusion.
Why do you need to see a doctor?
"I'm not sick."
The subtle aroma of caramelization reminded the little girl of deep-fried shrimp, which had the same savory flavor.
It was delicious.
A child's most primal expression of their love for something is the desire to devour it all.
However, the couple who heard Ah Bao say that he was not sick were very worried.
“Abao, you haven’t been eating these past few days. I’m worried about you. Come with me to see a doctor later so I can feel at ease.”
She's a very easy child to raise.
They never need to be urged to eat three meals a day.
For some reason, I've been eating much less these past few days, and sometimes I feel nauseous as soon as I sit down at mealtimes.
As the apple of their eye, the couple brought Abao to the Divine Doctor's Hall for treatment.
"That's because I'm full."
Abao casually agreed, his little tuft of hair swaying on his head, completely unaware that he had revealed a secret.
What does "I'm full..." mean?
The man's eyes turned dangerous as he looked at Abao, who was engrossed in eating the insects, and asked softly.
"It was Grandpa. He took me out to eat something delicious: roast chicken, roast duck, big fish... and lots of other things!"
"Grandpa said that we can only eat vegetarian food at home, which he doesn't like. He wants to eat meat."
"Well, Grandpa also said he'd take me to eat with him, but told me not to tell Dad and Mom."
“Abao ate his fill outside, so he couldn’t eat when he got back.”
"ah!"
At this point, the little girl realized she had let something slip.
She covered her mouth with one hand, looked timidly at the two of them, and her eyes darted around.
Grandpa, I'm sorry, Abao failed to protect our secret.
Abao's eyes immediately welled up with tears.
Large teardrops clung to the little girl's long, dark eyelashes, making her look incredibly pitiful.
Her fair and delicate face was slightly flushed.
"you……"
Seeing A Bao's behavior, the man felt a lump in his throat but couldn't spit it out. He gritted his teeth and his tone became furious.
"I was just telling him not to eat meat. The doctor said he had just recovered from a serious illness and needed to rest, so he couldn't eat any meat."
"At your age, why are you acting like a child, refusing to listen to the doctor?"
Men really don't know whether to laugh or cry when they talk about the old man.
So the old man was afraid of being scolded for doing bad things, so he brought his son along to cover for him.
Everyone knows the whole family dotes on the little girl and uses her as a shield. Look, the little girl is almost crying, and he can't bring himself to say any more scolding words.
I'll settle the score with the old man when I get back.
Fortunately, Ah Bao was alright, which put his mind at ease.
"Let's go back to find Grandpa."
The man tapped Abao's little head, which was as crisp and clear as a melon.
"Oh, but Grandpa isn't home."
"Grandpa said this morning that he was going to have drinks with his old friends and that he would bring some good food for Abao."
"Father, shall we also bring some worms for Grandpa to eat?"
Unbeknownst to him, Abao had once again exposed the old man's secrets.
The old man, who should have been resting at home, secretly ate meat and drank alcohol. He probably doesn't want to take care of his health anymore.
"My dear Bao, tell your father, where did Grandpa go for a feast?"
