He Zhen asked Han Wanying, "How did you feel about meeting that person today?"
Han Wanying: "It's okay. He was quite kind to me when I saw him today. You should know him."
He Zhen nodded gently. "I used to see him often at Grandpa's house, but I don't know when it started. It seems that since my parents died, he hasn't come here often. Every time he comes, my Grandpa is not in a good mood. He was very good to me when I was a child, but later on, I also didn't want him to come like Grandpa did."
"I asked my grandfather why Uncle Yuan was so angry with him, but he always said I was still young and didn't need to worry about such things. Later, when I grew up, I gradually realized that my parents' sacrifice was related to him. Coupled with a series of things that happened afterwards, I also understood my grandfather."
Han Wanying gently held He Zhen's hand. He Zhen looked at Han Wanying tenderly, "I'm fine. I don't blame him. I believe Grandpa didn't blame him for this. We all know that Mom and Dad were taking normal tasks. It had nothing to do with him. We were not in a good situation at the time. I think Grandpa might not want this person to have much contact with our family because of this."
Han Wanying replied softly, "Are your parents also soldiers?"
He Zhen nodded. "Well, my father was a soldier, and my mother was a military doctor. They were both in the same unit. The last mission they were assigned to was actually not that difficult. However, at the last moment, someone leaked the information, and the mission failed. My parents also died in that mission."
"That mission resulted in heavy casualties. Almost everyone who went in never returned. It just so happened that my father was leading the team on this mission. Before anyone returned, our house was surrounded. Three months later, someone finally managed to escape and return. He was the only survivor. Luckily, he wasn't a traitor and cleared my parents' names, but he also brought back news of their deaths."
"Actually, I already knew the outcome at the time. We all thought we were mentally prepared, but Grandpa fell seriously ill after hearing the news. He then retired from his position, and our family gradually faded from the military's radar."
Han Wanying looked at He Zhen. Although he spoke in a calm tone, she could still hear the sadness in his words.
He Zhen then smiled with relief, "My mom used to say that if I was so cold every day, no one would want me in the future. But I finally found someone, and I won't be alone for the rest of my life."
Han Wanying seemed to have thought of something, and a smile appeared on her lips. She said to He Zhen, "How could that be? I saw a girl today, and she must be your admirer?"
He Zhen looked at him doubtfully, his eyes revealing confusion.
Han Wanying smiled and said, "If I'm not mistaken, it should be the comrade from the Shu family I mentioned last night. I think it should be her, because comrade Chen was also there. But it really is fate. I just mentioned her yesterday, and I ran into her today."
He Zhen heard that the man's face looked a little strange, as if he wanted to say something but hesitated.
Han Wanying saw it. She had originally intended to make a joke, but why did this person's expression seem a little off?
Han Wanying asked, "What's wrong with you? You don't look right."
He Zhen said seriously, "Don't pay attention to her next time you meet her. The Shu family has some connection with your Grandpa Wan."
Han Wanying thought of something and said in a cold voice, "Is that Grandpa Wan's adopted son?"
He Zhen nodded. "Shu Xin's father is indeed like Grandpa Wan. Thanks to his merit in reporting Grandpa Wan, he was promoted from regimental commander to brigade commander. However, he has not achieved any military achievements in all these years. And mainly because Senior Wan brought him into his unit in the beginning. These people only value him because he is Senior Wan's adopted son."
"It's not that he doesn't have the ability, it's just that compared to the others, he's still not good enough. But this guy always felt that it was Grandpa Wan who restricted him, so he has always been a regimental commander. But after Grandpa Wan passed away, although he was promoted to brigade commander, no one under him took him seriously."
"Even on the surface, they didn't want to pay attention to him. He sensed it, so he applied to the higher-ups, saying he wanted a transfer. But the higher-ups kept suppressing his application. Last time, he was demoted to team leader because of a major mistake during a team activity."
Han Wanying's eyes were filled with sarcasm. "People who are so conceited but have no talent at all are really funny."
Then he thought of something and asked He Zhen, "I remember Comrade Chen said that this man was in the compound. Even if he is a brigade commander, can he live in your military compound?"
He Zhen paused after listening to Han Wanying's words.
Han Wanying instantly understood what was going on when she saw He Zhen's expression. She sneered and said, "Still living in Grandpa Wan's house? This guy really has the nerve to say that Grandpa Wan is restricting him, while enjoying the convenience brought by Grandpa Wan. How can there be such a disgusting person?"
He Zhen: "Although this man is only a regiment leader now, he is still a big man. He still has people above him. If you encounter him, don't be impulsive."
Han Wanying nodded. "I know. Since this man is Grandpa Wan's adopted son, we must wait for Grandpa Wan to come back and deal with it."
Hearing Han Wanying's tone was okay, He Zhen felt relieved. He was not afraid of those people from the Shu family, but he was afraid that these people would play some shady tricks again. Han Wanying's current identity was still a bit awkward, and he didn't know what the people above were thinking and what their attitude towards Han Wanying was.
