Chapter 5: Renovating the House

Han Wanying finished her first meal in such a subtle atmosphere after arriving in the other world.

After dinner, Captain Wang called Wang Guofu and Wang Guoqiang to find the skilled workers in the team to help repair Han Wanying's yard.

Originally, those family members were reluctant to go. After all, they could earn 5 work points each in half a day. Now if they didn't go to work, they would lose half a day's work points.

But when they heard the team leader say that they would be paid, everyone's faces suddenly became happy. After all, who wouldn't want to do something that pays? He also told them to pay attention and repair Han Wanying's yard.

Captain Wang's two sons went with the people from the brigade to repair the yard, while Captain Wang went to find the team's experts in building stoves and repairing kangs to repair Han Wanying's room.

Captain Wang entered an adobe house and called out, "Dafu, please go over and fix the house for that girl from today."

Wang Dafu is a skilled handyman in the village. Generally, the villagers will come to him when they need cabinets, kang repairs, or stoves. His wife is Liu Xiaolin. There are two sons in the family. The eldest son, Wang Hu, joined the army and has two children. The children and his wife went to join the army. The youngest son, Wang Peng, married his wife Lin Xia.

Wang Dafu heard the captain's words and replied, "Okay, I'll pack up and go with you right away."

After speaking to the captain, he shouted into the house: "Wife, go and help me clean up my things."

A voice from inside the house replied, "Okay."

After that, after waiting for a while, a middle-aged woman came out carrying a large portion of the medicine. Seeing Captain Wang, she smiled and said, "Captain Wang, why don't you come in and sit for a while?"

Captain Wang quickly said, "No, no, I have something else to do, so I won't go in."

After saying that, he and Wang Dafu walked towards Han Wanying's house.

Liu Lin shouted, "Captain, please remember to come to our house and sit for a while next time."

The repair work over there was progressing rapidly. Meanwhile, Liu Guixiang was pulling Han Wanying to sit at home.

She said to Han Wanying: "Look at you, girl. Why don't you live at your aunt's house? You have to live alone."

Han Wanying smiled at Liu Guixiang and said, "I know Auntie is worried about me. I used to do everything at home and was beaten. Now that I have escaped, I will definitely live well and live a better life. I know Auntie's intentions, and I can't cause you any more trouble."

Liu Guixiang scolded her with a smile, "Come on, girl, I have an unwanted bed sheet and blanket at home. You can use them first. Also, you don't have a pot anywhere right now, right? It's hard to buy. I have a few ceramic pots at home. Take one and a few sets of bowls and chopsticks."

Han Wanying was deeply touched. She knew that these things were very scarce in that era, but Aunt Liu was willing to give them to her. She remembered this kindness in her heart.

Han Wanying said to Liu Guixiang gratefully, "Thank you, aunt." She didn't say anything else. She thought that if she had any good things in the future, she would send them to Aunt Liu's house.

After saying that, Liu Guixiang also started to pack. It was spring now and it was not too cold here, so she packed a thin quilt and a set of blue sheets for Han Wanying, and went to the kitchen to get bowls, chopsticks and ceramic pots.

Fortunately, Wang Paner was not there, otherwise she might have complained again.

Zhang Cui was outside, but she was knowledgeable and knew who was in charge at home. She also felt that her mother-in-law was very good to them and had never bullied them. For example, when they were pregnant, she would let them do some light work at home and would not ask them to go to work. Her mother-in-law would also take care of them during their confinement period, so she always disagreed with Wang Paner's approach.

Seeing Liu Guixiang packing up, she took the initiative to go forward and help.

Liu Guixiang looked at her eldest daughter-in-law and nodded in appreciation. It made sense that she liked her eldest daughter-in-law more than her second daughter-in-law.

However, Zhang Cui went to work after cleaning up for a while. Liu Guixiang thought that Han Wanying was alone at home, so she asked Zhang Cui to take an afternoon off for her to accompany Han Wanying.

After resting for a while, Liu Guixiang asked Han Wanying to take her things to her house, pack them up, and move in at night.

They took their things and walked towards the end of the village. Since everyone was working at that time, they didn't meet anyone on the way.

They arrived at Han Wanying's new home without any problems. They walked past from the side instead of entering through the main door.

Han Wanying saw that her new home was basically packed up. Seeing the team leader, she called out, "Uncle Wang."

Captain Wang turned and saw Han Wanying. He said to her, "Girl, now you're here, take a look at how it's going. It's almost finished. The outer wall will be ready once it dries. I've installed your original door on the side, so it will be more convenient for you to come in and out."

Han Wanying looked at the house, which was now much more solid than the dilapidated one in the morning, and said with a smile, "Thank you, Uncle Wang. It's in great shape now. I also have to thank you for helping me fix it up so early this afternoon."

Captain Wang said, "What's the big deal? Come in and take a look. I told Dafu to fix your kang and stove."

After saying that, Han Wanying and Liu Guixiang walked in. On the right was the bedroom, which was partitioned in the middle. The larger one was the living room, with a table installed. It looked like it was moved in from the front. The other small compartment was the bathroom, and on the left was the stove.

Liu Guixiang said, "This stove looks like it's ready for you. You can use it tonight. I'll take out the things and put them away for you."

After that, he took out the bowls, chopsticks and pot from his bag and put them aside for Han Wanying, saying, "Now all we need is an iron pot. It's okay, I'll go back and talk to your uncle Wang and see if he can get you one. There's a small stove here that's perfect for putting a ceramic pot in. You can use that as well."

Han Wanying said, "Thank you, Auntie. It doesn't matter if I don't have an iron pot. I'm alone now, so a ceramic one is enough."
