Chapter 18 Chen Mingyuan's Plea

That afternoon after school, Xu Chen ran into Chen Yunhai not far from the school gate. "Young Master Chen, my father would like to invite you to a casual meal," Chen Yunhai said nervously. Xu Chen asked suspiciously, "You're Chen Yunhai, right? I've seen you before. Who is your father?" Chen Yunhai quickly replied, "My father is Chen Mingyuan. You should know him." Xu Chen remembered Chen Mingyuan. "Yes, an old acquaintance. Let's go."

On the way, Chen Yunhai, gripping the steering wheel, seemed to have made up his mind and apologized to Xu Chen, "Young Master Chen, I'm really sorry about what happened last time. I didn't know Wang Li was your girlfriend beforehand, and then I acted impulsively. Please forgive me, Young Master Chen." Xu Chen waved his hand, "It's alright. Who isn't impetuous when they're young? I can understand." Then, a silence fell over the car.

Entering the private room, Xu Chen saw Chen Mingyuan again. He looked somewhat dejected, a far cry from his usual shrewd and ruthless self. "Brother Chen, you're here? Please have a seat." Xu Chen sat down as instructed and looked at Chen Mingyuan directly, asking, "What brings you here, Boss Chen?" Chen Mingyuan didn't answer. "Brother Chen, let's drink first." After a few rounds of drinks, Chen Mingyuan raised his glass and downed it in one gulp. "Brother Chen, Huang Youde's death must be related to you, right?" Xu Chen didn't reply. Chen Mingyuan smiled and continued, "Brother Chen, you have quite the methods. First, you controlled Huang Youde, making him work for you..." "He was used by my father. Once he's no longer of use, I'll use a scheme to kill him." Xu Chen said slowly, "What does Boss Chen want to say?" Chen Mingyuan smiled self-deprecatingly, "With Huang Youde dead, my business couldn't continue. I'm lucky to have lasted this long. I used to think I should be a superior person, and I was blinded by greed to the point of no return. Yunhai is my only concern, and I want to ask Brother Chen to help him out in the future." Chen Mingyuan looked pleading. Xu Chen asked suspiciously, "Boss Chen, don't you have anyone else you can entrust with this?" He looked at the sad Chen Yunhai.

“Yunhai’s mother passed away a long time ago. As for me, I’m an orphan. Over the years, I’ve been ruthless in my pursuit of power and wealth, offending many people.” Chen Mingyuan lit a cigarette and took a deep drag. “If you’re wondering why I approached you, Brother Chen, it’s probably because I value you. I can see you’re no ordinary person. I feel very comfortable having Yunhai with you. Don’t worry, my son has never interfered in my business, so he won’t cause you any trouble in this regard.” Xu Chen was silent. “After all, you got into trouble indirectly because of me. Doesn’t your son mind?” He looked at Chen Yunhai. Chen Mingyuan smiled and wiped away his tears. “Ultimately, it’s my own fault. It has nothing to do with you, Young Master Chen. Yunhai has thought it through, hasn’t he, Yunhai?” Chen Yunhai nodded, tears streaming down his face.

Xu Chen poured himself a sip of wine and sipped it slowly. "You two have a good relationship." He then downed the rest of his drink in one gulp. "Alright, for the sake of your father-son bond, I'll help. From now on, if your son ever needs anything, I'll do my best to help." He then walked over to Chen Yunhai, patted him on the shoulder, and left the private room.

At the hotel entrance, Chen Yunhai, his eyes red, saw Xu Chen off. Xu Chen said to him, "I have a connection with your father. I promised him I would take care of you. You can consider me your older brother." Chen Yunhai nodded. Xu Chen continued, "If you have any trouble, you can call me." Then he got into a taxi to go home.

Chen Mingyuan watched Xu Chen leave and said to Chen Yunhai, "When your mother and I started our business in our early years, we saved up some money for you. It's clean money. I used it to buy you a house near Young Master Chen's house. The rest is enough for you to live a comfortable life." Chen Mingyuan choked up and said, "From now on, when you're with Young Master Chen, listen to him. Dad can't be with you for the rest of your life. Go, don't look back." Chen Yunhai burst into tears, looking back at his father every few steps, and after a long time, he disappeared into the night.

Xu Chen didn't know why he agreed to Chen Mingyuan's request. Was it because of the father-son bond? Or was it because Chen Yunhai's helplessness had affected him? He recalled his early days at the Tianquan Sect. Besides his yearning for cultivation, he sometimes felt lost and helpless when alone. His roommate, an older brother, constantly encouraged him and shared half of the spirit stones he received from the sect. Since low-level cultivators couldn't abstain from grains, fortunately, the sect disciples had some culinary skills. His brother was also a good cook, and he had learned a bit from him. With his brother's companionship, he was able to overcome this period of confusion and begin to show his talent. What Xu Chen regretted was that his brother, due to his ordinary aptitude, died when Xu Chen was in seclusion attempting to break through to the Nascent Soul stage.

"Brother, when I return to the sect, I will come to see you. The wine on Earth is especially delicious. I will bring you a case to try. I will definitely work hard to cultivate and strive to break through space travel, so that I can bring you wine from Earth every year during the Qingming Festival." Xu Chen looked at the neon lights outside the window, tears streaming down his face.
