Chapter 53 Xu Jianguo's Promotion

"Old Wei, what brings you here?" Old Wei arrived with a smile in Xu Jianguo's office. Xu Jianguo looked up, quite surprised. He quickly gestured for his superior to sit down, and his secretary promptly brought in tea and placed it before them. Wei Tianzhe took a sip and said with a smile, "Old Xu, your tea is the best in the whole compound. I never get tired of it, no matter how many times I drink it." Xu Jianguo laughed heartily, "Old squad leader, if you like it, I'll take you to my hometown village to pick more next time." Wei Tianzhe waved his hand, "No, no, a gentleman doesn't take what others cherish." He chewed on the tea leaves he had just drunk and continued, "Old Xu, I came here today to discuss your new appointment." Upon hearing this, Xu Jianguo looked reluctant and said, "Has it been decided yet, old squad leader?" "Are you really not staying until the end?" Wei Tianzhe seemed somewhat relieved. After finishing his tea, he immediately lit a cigarette and took a deep drag. "It's decided, Lao Xu. You're younger than me, so some things should be my responsibility. Besides, I'm getting old; it's time for me to retire." Xu Jianguo stood up and hugged Wei Tianzhe tightly, tears streaming down his face. "Old squad leader, no matter what, you'll always be my old squad leader." Wei Tianzhe smiled happily and said with great satisfaction, "That's enough for me. How about I treat you to a drink today? It's been a long time since we've had a private drink together." Xu Jianguo wiped away his tears and said loudly, "Okay, even if I have to use up all my savings, I'll drink with you, old squad leader." He then checked the time, grabbed his coat, and pulled Wei Tianzhe out of the office.

Meanwhile, in Beijing, Xu Chen was still training the Falcon team members. The movements had been taught, and all that remained was daily repetition and continuous medicinal baths to accelerate their progress. Tang Tiancheng approached Xu Chen, handing him a cup of coffee. Xu Chen, somewhat surprised, took a sip and said to Tang Tiancheng, "I didn't realize that besides tea, Elder Tang also drinks this kind of thing young people drink." Tang Tiancheng pulled Xu Chen to a nearby rest area, touching the coffee cup and saying, "It's Xue'er. She heard you're helping me with something very important, so she brought these to express her gratitude." Xu Chen nodded, turning to look at the training area, and slowly said, "They all have internal energy within them, just to varying degrees." Tang Tiancheng's face lit up with joy, and he hurriedly asked, "When can we go out on missions?" Xu Chen thought for a moment, "Now, Wu..." "This path isn't something that can be achieved through meaningless arduous training. The more intense the battles and life-or-death struggles, the more their potential will be stimulated, allowing them to better advance to the Transformation Realm." Tang Tiancheng patted Xu Chen's shoulder after hearing this, saying gratefully, "Young friend Xu Chen, it's our blessing to have you." Xu Chen waved his hand dismissively, saying, "No need for formalities. Is that special strength measuring device ready?" Tang Tiancheng nodded, and Xu Chen continued, "Actually, the team members know best whether their strength has improved. This measuring device is purely to help you shut some people up, Old Tang." Tang Tiancheng stroked his beard, "Yes, the expenses have been too high lately, and many people within the organization have questioned it. As long as you're confident, that's fine. As for silencing people for me, that's unnecessary. No one dares to gossip in front of me; let them be in private."

That evening, Xu Chen returned home to find Wang Li carrying a plate of dark, charred chicken wings out of the kitchen. Xu Chen quickly opened the door, trying to escape, but Wang Li pleaded sweetly, "Chenchen, don't go! Come and taste them for me!" Xu Chen's face fell, and he went to the plate of chicken wings on the table. After dinner, Wang Li asked about Xu Chen's training that day, "Chenchen, how much longer are you going to stay at the base?" Xu Chen patted her head and turned on the TV. "I don't need to go anymore. I've already talked to Old Tang." Wang Li was overjoyed. "Tomorrow's the weekend, let's go shopping!" Xu Chen nodded. Just as the two were enjoying their time together, the doorbell rang. Xu Chen opened the door, and standing outside was a familiar figure: Ye Cheng, and a middle-aged man who resembled him. The middle-aged man... Holding the gifts, Ye Zhenhua smiled gently and introduced himself, "Hello, my name is Ye Zhenhua." Xu Chen nodded and let the two in. Wang Li, seeing this, brewed tea. Ye Zhenhua looked at his silent son and said to Xu Chen with some helplessness, "Hello, young brother Xu Chen, I've come specifically to apologize for my son's offense." Xu Chen waved his hand, "It's alright, Mr. Ye, I didn't take it to heart." Ye Zhenhua placed the gifts on the coffee table. Seeing this, Ye Cheng couldn't remain silent any longer and reluctantly began to apologize, "Xu Chen, I was wrong last time, I'm sorry." Ye Zhenhua gave his son an approving look, then said to Xu Chen, "Young brother, I apologize for disturbing you today. I'll treat you to a meal another day." He then pulled Ye Cheng out the door.

Outside the door, Ye Cheng said somewhat irritably, "Dad, why do you have to apologize to him too? Aren't you lowering yourself?" Ye Zhenhua slapped his son's shoulder. "It's all your fault. Your grandfather told me that the person you absolutely mustn't mess with in Beijing right now is Xu Chen." Ye Cheng was incredibly surprised. "Grandpa really said that?" Ye Zhenhua nodded, thinking to himself, "If the information the old man found out is true, then not only should we not mess with Xu Chen, we should probably try to curry favor with him as soon as possible. It's a pity that Cheng'er ruined it all." Just as the two were getting into the car, Ye Zhenhua received a phone call. "Zhenhua, the new appointment of Xu Chen's father will be discussed at the meeting today..." "It's approved." Ye Zhenhua was incredibly surprised, then continued, "What else did the big shots say? My old leader." The person on the other end of the phone continued, "Old Tang suggested another exceptional promotion, but the others neither objected nor supported it. This also sends a signal that I suspect Xu Chen's father is very likely to take over Hunan Province in the future." Ye Zhenhua remained silent, glancing out the window. Seeing that Ye Zhenhua didn't speak, the person on the other end hung up. The person Ye Zhenhua had asked was his former leader in the core office. Because he had heard that Xu Chen and Old Tang were close, he had specifically asked this person to find out if it was true. He hadn't expected it to not only be true, but also to give him such a shocking piece of information.

Late at night, after everyone had returned to their rooms, Xu Chen received a call from Wang Rong. He asked in surprise, "Mom, why aren't you asleep so late?" Wang Rong replied helplessly, "Your dad was drinking with his old boss until just now, he's quite drunk, and he's on his way home now. Chenchen, I have good news for you, your dad got promoted." Xu Chen exclaimed, "Great! When I come back for the holidays, I'll have a good drink with him. Mom, you can't stop me!" Wang Rong laughed and said, "Yes, yes, I won't stop you two. Go to sleep early, your dad and I are going home too." Xu Chen hung up the phone, thinking to himself, "Looks like I'll have to go to Old Tang's house tomorrow to thank him in person." He turned off the lamp and fell into a deep sleep.
