Chapter 9 Wang Li Confesses Her Love

The next day, upon returning to school, Xu Chen heard about the incident and chuckled inwardly, "I never thought those two brothers would have a grudge against me, haha." He then looked at the blackboard and listened attentively. A short while later, the teacher said, "Xu Chen, I'll point to the straits on the map. Can you name them all?" Xu Chen immediately stood up and accurately named all the straits. Over the past few days, Xu Chen had been "assigned" to answer questions by the three humanities teachers many times, being asked in every class. Xu Chen didn't seem to care at all. His classmates gradually realized Xu Chen's knowledge base, and the rumors of him "plagiarizing" disappeared. After all, with the teachers watching and so many students observing, how could he possibly look at the book or the answers? That's what the students thought.

After answering, Xu Chen sat down and noticed that the boy in front of him handed him a small note that read, "Xu Chen, let's walk together after school this afternoon. Wang Li." Xu Chen looked up at Wang Li and saw that she was staring at him with her face flushed. When Xu Chen smiled and nodded, Wang Li was excited but also very nervous, looking forward to the end of school.

"Xu Chen, I'm here." Xu Chen was scrolling through his phone when he saw Wang Li in a black dress, her long, slender legs and smiling eyes. She stood gracefully beside him like a little rabbit. Xu Chen smiled. "Where to?" Wang Li hesitated for a moment. "How about the park?" She looked at Xu Chen expectantly. Xu Chen put down his phone. "Okay." The two took a taxi from the school gate to the park. When they arrived near the park, Xu Chen led Wang Li to a KFC restaurant and said to her, "It's not good for your health to go hungry at night." They ordered two hamburgers. The more Wang Li looked at Xu Chen, the more she felt he was her perfect match.

After walking in the park for a while, the two sat on a bench by the lake. Smelling the faint herbal scent emanating from Xu Chen and gazing at his relaxed profile, Wang Li secretly made up her mind. She clenched her hamburger tightly in her hands as if to release her nervousness, turned to Xu Chen, and said, "Xu Chen, be my boyfriend." Wang Li's heart was pounding. She had taken the initiative to ask Xu Chen out today, partly because of her feelings for him, and partly because he was tall and handsome, with a charming smile. These past few days, he had been like a diligent student, and his grades had further confirmed this. There were love letters on Xu Chen's desk, but the anxious Wang Li had secretly taken them. "I just took them quietly to keep them safe for him. I didn't open or tear them. If he wants to see them, I'll return them to him. I'm not a bad woman, am I?" Wang Li had been conflicted these past few days, thinking that if she didn't act soon, Xu Chen's arms might belong to someone else.

Just as Wang Li was lost in thought, Xu Chen smiled and looked at her. Wang Li was so excited she wanted to jump up. "Really? Great! I have a handsome boyfriend now!" Xu Chen pulled her hand and sat her down, saying softly, "Well, let me do the math. You're my first partner in three lifetimes, Wang Li." Wang Li thought Xu Chen was quite romantic. But Xu Chen, according to the average lifespan in China, had indeed lived three lifetimes and was now probably over two hundred and thirty years old. Xu Chen looked at Wang Li, who was happily walking with him, and a hint of tenderness flashed in his eyes.

When Xu Chen escorted Wang Li to her doorstep, Wang Li looked at him, tiptoed, and lightly touched his cheek with her lips. Then, blushing, she lowered her head. Sensing her affection, Xu Chen reached out and hugged her, subtly channeling a wisp of spiritual energy into her body. "Alright, it's getting late, go inside," Xu Chen said gently, waving to Wang Li who kept turning back to look. Wang Li then entered the residential area. Back home, Wang Li pressed her pounding heart, touched her flushed face, and reflected on her time with Xu Chen that day. She felt as if she were a lump of water. "Is this the power of love?" Wang Li chuckled, feeling lighter and warmer. After washing up, she drifted off to sleep. Wang Li's mother, seeing her daughter still grinning blankly after returning home, asked, "What's wrong with Xiao Li? Is the pressure of studying causing brain problems? Call her homeroom teacher tomorrow and talk to her."

The next day during break, Xu Chen and Wang Li were strolling on the playground when Tong Yao, not far away, looked at Xu Chen with a puzzled expression. "Doesn't he like Mu Wan anymore?" she asked. She then returned to the classroom and loudly proclaimed to Mu Wan, "Mu Wan, Mu Wan, Xu Chen is dating Wang Li from their class!" Mu Wan put down her pen, quite surprised, and felt a pang of inexplicable disappointment. Xu Chen had changed a lot; he was now gentle and kind. He was already handsome, and his grades had made up for his shortcomings, making him a truly refined gentleman. Mu Wan sighed inwardly, wishing he had been like this before. Then, what would have happened to Wang Li? Mu Wan lowered her head and remained silent. Tong Yao, observing her friend's expression and recalling her friend's persistent requests to inquire about Xu Chen over the past few days, understood her thoughts.

"Regretted it?" Tong Yao looked at Mu Wan teasingly. Mu Wan's face paled, and she buried her head on the table. Xu Chen didn't have time to pay attention to what Mu Wan was thinking. In his spare time, he looked at some college entrance exam model essays and tutored Wang Li on her problems. With the power of love, her body protected by spiritual energy, and Xu Chen's gentle explanations, Wang Li's weakness in mathematics improved rapidly, and she was growing into a well-rounded student. Time passed quickly, and the first semester of senior year was coming to an end. The afternoon before the exam, Teacher Li gave instructions and then left the classroom. The students' faces were slightly somber, as the college entrance exam was one step closer. Wang Li walked to Xu Chen's side and said, "Little Xu, quickly come with me to the coffee shop to study." Xu Chen smiled, "Yes, my Lady Li." He carried his schoolbag and went to the coffee shop in the city with Wang Li. As soon as they entered, he said to the waiter, "Two lattes." Then, he found a seat with ease, opened his test papers and materials, and began to discuss them quietly.
