Chapter 198: Letting the Wolf In

Huang Qi's face darkened. He didn't want to have another conflict with him, so he threw the money bag given by Hua Changjue directly to him and turned away.

When Zhou Liang held the purse, the unhappiness in his heart was immediately dissipated!

He thought, since Huang Qi and Uncle Jiang didn't count the money anyway, they wouldn't know if there was a little less. Money is tight recently, so he might as well take some and use it!

He happily took the money and left.

An Yi hid in the dark and heard everything clearly this time. He realized that the matter was serious and he had to go back and tell Hua Changjue. When he was about to leave.

Suddenly, several young people came over here.

An Yi thought about hiding on the roof, but there was no place to hide on the roof. A few more people came from another direction.

Seeing that he was about to be exposed, he pushed open the door of the next yard and walked in desperation.

He had just entered and closed the gate when he heard someone trying to come in.

He was startled and quickly ran to the door of a remote room in the yard.

As the courtyard gate opened, he pushed the door open and entered the side room.

He quietly hid behind the door. There was no light inside. The moonlight outside was even brighter.

Through the crack in the door, he saw someone outside go into the yard, take some things, then go out of the yard, close the door and leave.

He breathed a sigh of relief when he realized he hadn't been discovered.

However, I was shocked when I turned around.

There was actually an old man sitting in this room.

His gray hair was a little messy. He was wearing ordinary coarse cloth clothes, which were obviously the same as those worn by people outside.

The only difference was that this old man was tied to a chair.

An Yi became alert. He still remembered Uncle Jiang saying that everyone in this village was theirs. So was this old man in front of him one of theirs?

Then he was discovered.

He was looking at the old man, and the old man was also looking at him. The old man found that he was sneaking around, obviously hiding from the people outside. His skin color was also whiter than theirs.

You can tell at first glance that he is from another place and his identity is not simple.

He saw An Yi was still wearing black clothes, so he asked softly, "Aren't you in the same group with them?"

An Yi was surprised and rolled his eyes. He felt that this person and the people outside did not seem to be together.

He decided to take a gamble, looked at the old man, and nodded seriously.

"Yes, I am not in the same group as the people outside."

"I discovered something was wrong with them. So I sneaked in to investigate. I'm from the government."

When the old man heard that he was a government official, his eyes lit up immediately and he became excited!

"They are all bad people. You must save our village!"

An Yi was extremely surprised.

"Who are you?"

The old man's eyes were filled with tears and he wanted to wipe his face with his hands, but his hands were tied and he couldn't move at all.

An Yi wanted to go forward and untie him.

He shook his head quickly.

"No, no, don't move! They will be here soon! If you untie the rope, I won't be able to say anything!"

An Yi was stunned and stopped.

The old man said quickly.

"I am the head of this village, my name is Cheng Wenru! Everyone calls me Old Cheng. Our village is called Chengjia Village."

An Yi was even more surprised. "You are the village chief, then who is that Uncle Jiang outside? And there are so many villagers outside?"

He was indeed a little confused.

Mr. Cheng burst into tears.

"Ten days ago, a group of people fleeing famine came to our place. We arranged food, drink and shelter for them. Unexpectedly, they showed their true colors after staying for three days."

"We have let the wolf in."

"That leader, Uncle Jiang, directly replaced me. He also locked up all the villagers in our village in a cave in the back mountain and captured all our children."

"If we don't listen to them, they will kill our children."

An Yi frowned even more tightly, "Then why did they put you here?" Why didn't they lock you up? An Yi was very suspicious.

"Also, I saw some elderly people in the village? Are they their people too?"

Mr. Cheng knew that he didn't believe him, but he explained anyway.

"Some of the elderly people were originally from our village. They are so old that their minds are no longer clear. They can't even recognize their own family members!"

“They just put the old man outside.”

"As for why they locked me up here, it's because every few days, people from the county come over. They're afraid that the people from the county will find anything unusual, so they lock me up here and send me out to take over at any time."

Old Cheng sighed as he spoke.

"I wish I were in the cave in the back mountain, too. It would be better than being tied up here every day."

An Yi asked Cheng Lao for some details. He didn't dare to make a decision on his own, but he felt that this matter was very important. So he comforted the old man and saw that there was no one outside, so he quietly walked out.

Then he avoided the people in the village, left the village and joined the army.

An Yi quickly found Hua Changjue and told him everything he had seen and heard, not missing out on any small details.

Hua Changjue frowned.

"Go to the village quietly again and contact Old Cheng. Tell him that we will save him and the villagers."

"But ask him for a favor, too!"

Hua Changjue and An Yi whispered a few words.

An Yi's eyes lit up and he nodded. He quickly went to do his work.

General Hou was puzzled, "What did you ask him to do?"

Hua Changjue curled his lips, "The secret cannot be revealed."

"Oh, give the order. The water that will be sent from the village will be fine."

"As for the spring water, don't drink it."

Li Zhan was stunned for a moment, then immediately understood and hurried down to pass on the message.

Hua Changjue spoke a few more words to General Hou in silence.

General Hou's eyes were full of smiles.

"Okay, I'll take someone to do it right away!"

Soon, Huang Qi came with many young people, pushing more than a dozen ox carts, to deliver water.

Li Zhan accepted it politely, but he pulled the ox cart aside, obviously not intending to use it.

Huang Qi's eyes flickered and he led his people away.

Wait and watch them go away.

Li Zhan ordered his men to pull the ox cart back to the camp. For safety reasons, he found a few fish and threw them into the bucket.

After about half an hour, the fish was still alive and kicking.

Li Zhan allowed the soldiers to drink water without worry.

The soldiers still had their own food, but no soldier dared to touch the springs or streams.

It was the second half of the night, at 2:30 pm.

Suddenly, flames appeared all around and shouts of killing were heard.

Hua Changjue was lying in the tent with his clothes on. He immediately ran out and ran into General Hou.

"General Hou, how are the arrangements going?"

General Hou smiled.

"Everything is ready, just waiting for your order!"
